I'm surprised how small that is. I thought the PC community was much larger.
Do you not understand the meaning to the word "concurrent"?
It's amazonangry. Don't take it seriously. Really, just don't.

It is much larger when you add up the MMOs numbers.
What MMO numbers?
so ps4 has nearly surpassed it in under a year lol steam
Concurrent means the number of users online at once. There are over 70 million steam users
Oh, The burn.
so less than x360 or ps3? gotcha
No, more. How is all this going over your head? Are you really this damn stupid or just playing the part for the thread?
It is well deserved success. I got on board with Steam in 2012 and I really haven't gone back to Nintendo or any other gaming platform since.
I have been given tremendous sales beyond my dreams thanks to Steam. May it grow even larger and may Steam continue to be awesome :D

what are the concurrent numbers for 360 and ps3?
In 2009, it was 2M for xbox360
http://www.lazygamer.net/xbox-360/xbox-live-sets-new-concurrent-user-record/
And Sony never revealed its numbers, which suggest that they never had numbers to brag about.
well i can confirm the concurrent no. for ps4 is 5m, x1 is 3m, x360 is 20m and ps3 is 18m. this confirms that console are superior to pc/steam. enough said
So basically you are confirming that you don't know what concurrent means and you are too stupid to look it up before you posted.
It means users online at the SAME TIME. Your numbers are shit.
Oh shit da hurmitts are usin' dem big wurdz.
In before some console peasant that makes some stupid "There are already 7 million PS4s LOL PS4 has as many users as pc gamers!" comparison.
PS 4 is one platform while steam supports 3 platforms.
no, they support 3 operating systems on one categorised device. stop trying to peg this s*it, it fails every time. its not a new concept on this forum, and it never holds weight. as I said before, let me know when your Xbox 1 can run PSN and vice versa, then you have a case, otherwise... stop wasting our time.
Steam & I guess Origin...is there even another way to get a PC game? God knows the stores won;t carry anymore because THEY DON'T SELL!!!!!
Plus it must be nice spending all that money, buying all those game and not actually OWNING ANYTHING!
Taking the PC Argument for sales....would basically mean the IOS and I Tunes BS is the number one "System" for gaming.
Ummm..... we purchase a license and a CD Key, in steams case as part of the agreement if hosting it ever becomes an issue the user has the right to make physical copies and the key is released to them. so please... stop talking like you have a clue what you are talking about.
Not that it will ever be a problem. hell.. I'd rather own a digital license than buy a game, accidently damage the disc... and OH LOOK, you have NO RIGHTS TO ANOTHER ONE. even though, the irony that when you purchase a physical game, you are still only purchasing one license to it... and that license is stuck to that one physical copy.
oh we want to make the pointless quotes now do we? alright lets play.
The Macintosh (/ˈmækɨntɒʃ/mak-in-tosh), or Mac, is a line of personal computers (PCs) designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc. It was initially targeted mainly at the home, education, and creative professional markets. Since the introduction of the Macintosh, the computer has seen significant evolution, now making it one of the most powerful general purpose computers on the market. It now targets the business, science, and law markets as well.
oh look.....
and even then, I can run it on my ONE PC. again, just stop. you cant run a ps4 on your xbox 1. its not the same thing. its but 1 component that is interchangeable.
The ability to run multiple platforms on one computer means nothing.
Maybe you didn't notice but many terms have multiple meaning. PC can mean personal computer and it can also mean a windows based computer.
Funny how hermits will use valve/steam to back them up unless they happen to contradict them.
It's all because of the steam summer adventure !!!
Steam reached 7 million prior to this. And in general, has been rising in count at a staggering pace.
What are you talking about ? Steam had like 5 users in total before the steam summer adventure.
@Cranler: PC's does stand for Personal Computers. You just said it for yourself. Then you went to the common misconception that only windows based OS qualify as a PC.
@Cranler: Funny... I thought Personal Computer (PC) meant Personal Computer...
SPeaking of the word funny, it has multiple meaning too. Did you miss the part where I said pc has multiple meanings? It stands for personal computers but is more commonly used in referring to windows based computers.
Some of the biggest players in the industry like valve, Intel, Apple and MS refer to windows based computers as pc.

My friend, at the weekend it would hit 6-7 million.
This is when people who work, do not work.

Sure why not? Even if we discount the 6-7 million, probably only take about 6-12 months to keep it standard.
It's kinda crazy, but Valve has the highest revenue per capita in the entire gaming industry.
No wonder they haven't announce any games (yet?) as they make plenty of money without making games.
I suppose a lot of key people behind Halflife are either not there anymore or busy in new job positions.
@Cranler: I'm asking you because so far you're the only person in the world that insists that PC stands for "Windows Based Computer"
I said pc refers to windows. Steam which is used by hermits ad nauseam to prove points refers to windows based computer as pc's. So does Intel.

Speaking of good games.

The reason Valve separate the two is because some games aren't playable on Mac etc. The term PC is universal, stop trying to make out its not.

Hahahah Mbirdy totally owned....hahahaha
Unless he want to pretend now that Linux and Mac are the same platform as windows.
Hell 80 million users is nothing since steam is available since 2003,and started getting 3rd party games since 2005,since 2003 this is what consoles sold.
100+ million PS2
10 million xbox
10 million GC
100 million wii
80 million 360
80 million ps3.
By far they eclip those steam numbers.

Well, Valve has developers working on Team Fortress and DOTA (and CS:GO ?) content for one.
But I read that when you work at Valve you've got a lot of freedom to work on what you want. So I'm sure a lot of developers there can just work on prototypes and game ideas, and if they don't work out just cancel them and no harm done. I'm sure they have that freedom as Valve has all the money in the world.
With all the money they're making just imagine how fking insane Source 2/HL3 could be if they were to invest

Yeah dude, totally. I once heard a big player in the industry say PC, he was referring to a computer, that ran windows. Yeah man. Also the other big player he also said that bro, don't listen to the haters man dude!

oh Tormtlol ....
1) Steam doesn't represent all PC Gamers... you know there are a lot of places where its barely used right?
2) how many of those PS2/360s and PS3's are rebought or counter because of hardware failures? and also how many of them are owned by the same people?
.... that would be as stupid as me adding up all the devices used by each steam account... I'm sure... the number... would be quite as inflated. but hey.... my PC, 2 laptops and media centre pc have all logged into my steam account.
even then... now we are comparing 7 devices... to one digital store? dat desperation.
I have 4 discrete graphics cards. Let me guess, you have none. You probably don't have a job either based on the quantity of your posts.
prove it. actually I'm going to work right now
On his bike as well.
Yep, although it was already 80F at 9am this morning, so that's fun

And the PS4 doesn't represent all consoles...
The majority of PC gamers are on steam, funny enough this is a thread about steam but as soon as something negative about it comes up some how steam doesn't represent all gamers... hahahaha
This is why you hermits are a joke, steam stats not only show that most of you don't own a super rig,but also that even those that do play mostly Dota 2 on steam a game that runs on a X800 and a Pentium 4..lol
But as soon as that get out steam doesn't represent gamers, but when the topic is savings it some how does with steam sales, when it comes to concurrent users it some how does at well..hahaha
Hey fella the mother board in my old PC i bough it twice,at year 2 it fry and i didn't wanted to lose my data,so i bough the exact same one,and just re used the components, dvd drivers 3 times,2 ram cards and a power supply, don't tell me that the only place where you need to re buy crap is on consoles, the PS2 didn't have a 50% fail rate like the 360,and the problems it had DRE was easy to fix with a new lent.
Oh and don't make me point that several hermit here have more than 2 gaming PC some have even 3,so yeah stop your hypocrisy.
Fact is steam is across multiple platforms period, and it is been out since 2003,hell some PC running steam still are on single core CPU,so how come you can count a PC from 2004 but we can't count a PS2 from that same year.?
...

okay
For example, here's a post with a bunch of evidence in it
"Crytek struggled making a profit with the original Crysis even though it managed to to sell over 3 million copies." actually crysis was announced to be profitable (on a 22 million dollar budget) less than a year after release. The 3 million copies was announced in 2010.
But then oddly enough, the whole trilogy was just breaking even: "But effectively Crysis 1 and 2 and 3 are just about breaking even." and that was assuming they meet forecasts. Although, Crysis 3 did not meet expectations
Also, those witcher 2 pirated numbers aren't real. Heck your own post proves that.
Interesting you mention Metro 2033's publisher, THQ, going out of business, considering the vast majority of their games were on consoles. I think in the last decade their only PC exclusives were the handful of Warhammer 40k and COH games.
"Then we have the Witcher a series that combined has sold about 6 million copies including the Witcher 1 and 2. Now compare that to something like UC2 that sold 6 million by itself on the PS platform alone and you can see why the PC wouldn't be able to support the Wither 3 by itself either."
And then we have Diablo 3 which sold 6 million in its first week, and 12+ million by the end of the year. or Minecraft that sold 15 million on PC. or Starcraft 2 that sold 6+ million. And let's not all forget that just recently PC gaming revenue surpassed consoles
