Not exactly gaming-related, but hey, it's Steam, and we all love music.

Anyway:

"The Steam Music Beta is coming soon to Big Picture and SteamOS interfaces, with desktop features soon to follow. To express interest in beta participation, join the Steam Music community group. Group members will be invited in waves, until the feature is released to everyone.

With Steam Music, you can now listen to your music collection while playing games. Once you’ve pointed Steam to your local music directory, your Steam Library will include Album and Artist views of your collection."

More here.

Thoughts?

Why not? So many millions of people use Steam...why not offer the option?

That's awesome because I been asking myself when is Steam going to do this. Now I can listen to my music without pressing alt + tab all the time. All I need is a device like a wii u gamepad to play game's on my couch and I be all set.

@ TheShadowLord07

You don't own a multimedia Keyboard ? (if not you can use the function keys as global hotkeys on winamp)

Mine had Global Hotkeys, I could control my music without minimizing, Play stop, rewind, volume, skip, randomize. And I didn't need a damn Steam Account to do it. :D

Could be good if you listen to music while playing games, not something I do very often though really.

System Wars starting to get petty.

Steam music is definately a great feature, but its not worth the Fanboy douchiness.

From the screenshots it looks like a music player not a service... what formats will it support? FLAC/OPUS? MP3 can go away and die.

Looks like a good feature to me if done properly.

Lmfaooo. This will be a colossal failure. Hermits will hype anything Steam even if they starting selling Horse ball soup. SMH Hermits are worse than console fanboys confirmed. The music market is clearly saturated and this will fail just like the steambox

Makes sense for them to do this, especially with the Steam Machines.

this sounds pretty awesome. It's quite annoying needing to alt-tab everytime to change a song
