He wasn't in previous trailers , so I'm pretty sure that this is some kind of tease for Squadron 42 . I could be wrong though .

lol I love how its made like a Ford commercial. I was half expecting him to say "Built Ford tough" at the end. Man, this game makes me want to get a joystick and oculus rift.

@mems_1224: LOL yea I was expecting it as well. Same type of music and everything. Obviously where they're getting their example from.

This game's gonna be nuts with the Rift and a good joystick.

Behaving like airplanes? There are multiple flight modes you can switch between on the fly, from controlling "like a plane" to having individual control over the maneuvering thrusters and propulsion systems.

That isn't what I mean. They behave like they're gliding through the air, and they're constantly righting themselves along a horizontal plane. They're absolutely no reason they should behave like that in space.

@Pffrbt: Like I said, it's due to the flight mode the ship is in. The flight model is very complex in Star Citizen. In this mode, the "coupled" mode, the maneuvering thrusters are linked together to provide a more "plane-like" experience when piloting. If you switch to decoupled mode (which can be done in flight) then the maneuvering thrusters are controlled separately. For instance, if you are traveling at 100 m/s and then flip your nose around 180 degrees while in decoupled mode, you will then be traveling backwards at 100 m/s. In coupled mode, the maneuvering thrusters counteract this and will slow you down and start to push your ship in the direction of the nose while you're turning. There is still some drift in coupled mode.

Make sense now? That's about the best way I can explain it. But it's clear that you haven't played the game yet, and I have, and I am telling you that you're wrong. Sorry to break it down so bluntly.

@mikhail: That only addresses one of my complaints, the other being them constantly righting themselves along a horizontal plane that doesn't exist in space. In either case it doesn't really matter since the game looks boring and uninteresting.

It isn't hypothetical future space physics. It's current space physics that I'd think most people would have at least a basic understanding of. There is no defined up and down orientation in space.

Difference being that Mario Kart isn't meant to be realistic, so bringing it up in this case is pointless.

@Pffrbt: When conducting space mining operations today, ASWACS provides mining vessels with an artificial North and artificial astronomical horizon for clear coordination. Every mining vessel will use the same constantly updated field. Coordinates are simply north-south axis, west-east axis, and the zenith/nadir of the two crossing. When you are reading these fields it is much easier (i.e. required) for pilots to maintain spacial awareness when they remain level with the field as much as possible.

So yeah unless the ships are designed to rotate inwards in a corner to give it more thrust for a sharper turn, it makes little sense for the ships to constantly rotate like airplanes. I could see mass produced military vessels having stronger/more thrusters on one side (bottom), or maybe if they are mass enlisting aircraft pilots then the rotation could be more intuitive? Dunno.

This game just doesn't wanna get installed. The download reaches midway and says "peers list empty".

Anyway, the video seems really promising, Looking forward to it when it gets launched (or at least when there is a stable playable build)

I have to say, these kinds of trailers really do nothing to sell me on this game. They show off only the visuals without any gameplay or world building.

Well, there is very little gameplay that is even playable right now, and definitely no world building. It's not even coming out until 2016, the Alpha for the first portion of the game was just released to backers. It's very, very early.

Youtube is full of gameplay videos from this game but it is still 1.5 years away from release , so a lot of stuff is left to be done and not ready to show yet . However , they'll reveal First Person combat at Gamescon in August .

Another amazing ship commercial. Arena Commander is great fun, which is particularly impressive when you take into account it's just alpha and a tiny portion of the future game.

The ships don't correct to a horizontal plane, where did you get that from, a video? You obviously haven't played the game.

Boring and uninteresting is completely subjective and an opinion you're welcome to hold. I however, disagree with it.

Have you checked the forums or contacted support? It could be something easily fixed.

Had very few problems with Arena Commander. I'm amazed at how stable it actually is, even managed to get all the issues sorted out with using my Warthog, took a fair bit of work though.

I was hoping for something more like freelancer...

This game just looks like shoot in the general direction and it auto aims for you. I like freelancers mouse combat system where you had to shoot ahead of the target and dodge incoming fire.

Will hopefully do that later tonight. I pledged a while back when it was announced. Dunno though whether or not the transporter ship in my pledge category is available in this build.

Also, how is the framerate? Does it run smoothly on your system?

no, that's not rendered, it's ingame. You should probably go look at some gameplay vids. You should also read about the micro jets placed throughout each ship's hull like an actual space ship would have to thrust it in any direction

There's arcs to the shots, and the guns can be detached from the camera allowing you to aim in any direction. It's obvious from all the gameplay videos. There's no auto aim.

This is real time trailer , that uses 100% game assets .

No.... it's not supposed to realistic. This is exactly like expecting Freelancer to be realistic.... and even Mario Kart. You might as well complain about Star Wars and Star Trek about not being realistic.

The game is still in development and please define "bland art style". This is coming from a guy who's willing to upload pics of Titanfall and complains about bland art syle.

I've got a question for those into the game; is it possible to have a combat ship that doesn't have manual targeting? I've played a lot of eve and thought the automatic targeting systems seemed much more realistic and frankly more fun. Don't really want to have to do the typical dogfighting chase.

There's also star conflict which lets you aim with your mouse and frankly it's the best way to pilot, I can pull off manouveres in star conflict that I probably couldn't with a joystick because a mouse gives more precision and would in reality be a better piloting system than an exponentially less accurate joystick. Comes down to gameplay for me and the most beautiful graphics in the world can't save the game from primitive inaccurate controls.
