Square Enix is "aware" that DQ has demand in the west

Matsuda acknowledged that a number of Dragon Quest games were not released in France – and in turn, the west as a whole. However, he added that the Dragon Quest team has some ideas about how to make the series successful overseas. He asked fans to look forward to upcoming announcements and to a “bright future” for the series.

Square Enix actually ended up announcing Dragon Quest Heroes for North America and Europe earlier today. But you do have to wonder if we still have any sort of chance of seeing any of franchise’s other recent releases here. Dragon Quest VII, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, Dragon Quest Monsters 2, Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3, and Dragon Quest X have all stayed in Japan.

Yeah, Square, considering the only game in that series you're localizing is a PS4 game and NOTHING that was on the Wii U or 3DS (or even late in the Wii and DS's lifecycle), I don't buy this at all.

Who needs DQ when you got Duscae?

Why do I get the feeling that these new ideas will result in them discarding the JRPG genre in exchange for more action beat em up style gameplay for all future DQ games.. I hope that's not the case but it usually is when Japanese developers attempt to appeal to westerners or a broader player base. The only reason I'd want to throw my money at DQ Heroes is in hopes that they might one day start making DQ RPGs for the PlayStation again. Because the whole Dynasty Warriors thing doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

I would like to try this game when it comes out.

I wanted DQX on Wii U in the West. I think it could have been something great. How hard could it be to make a western server?

Would love to instead of having them say just Dragon Quest, they say we know people wish to buy our games on pc. Like come the **** on all ready, if FF15 is possibly the last large scale FF for non hand held platforms then why the **** not release it on a pc market place or all of them.. Same with Dragon quest. It's like for some reason these Japanese companies don't like to make money though they so often bitch about not making enough of it in the press.

DQVIII? Did you post the wrong numbers? DQ8 is highly regarded by just about everyone. Are you thinking of 9.. As for DQ10 they can keep the online only mmo gameplay... I wouldn't want that anyway. Now if it was a proper dq game sure.

I have a hard time seeing how DQ8 could leave a "bad taste" in someones mouth unless they thought they were buying a completely different kind of game.

every time these fucking people say they have ideas to include in a game to appeal to the western market what happens next is that the game sucks major balls.

@Zen_Light: I never said it was a great game, just not as bad as the review said. I can see why someone would find it boring though. The game is a 6.5, I played worse and it was worth the little amount I paid for it. I don't see on how me liking or hating that game has to do with the validity of my opinion on DQ VIII.

As far as DQ VIII goes, I find it was boring. I wish I could go more in detail, but it's been years. All I remember is how boring I find the game was and my expectations weren't met. I tend to be quite bashful of game I was hyped about, but didn't deliver.

Just release Dragon Quest VII westward Square. Just do it.
