As posted on GAF

It was reported before that the game would be censored in germany for Nazi symbols and references but now it's reported that the game will have censorship of other things in the rest of Europe too

South Park: The Stick of Truth reportedly has seven censored scenes in Europe, The Middle East and Africa.

our local Ubisoft rep has been in touch to say that the censorship is purely a marketing decision and that the scenes are also censored in the UK.

“Seven scenes of about 20 seconds each are censored in the EMEA console versions of South Park: The Stick of Truth. The decision to cut this content from the game was made by Ubisoft EMEA.”

This is attached (open in a new tab to see it better)

I for one think this sucks, it's South Park for crying out loud. The first episode had an anal probe scene so that stuff is expected

UPDATE: Ubisoft have tweeted out about the situation and the PC version remains untouched. This is for the console versions only

I'll just get the Ps3 version. Import it through Amazon. This suck though considering it's South Park. You want it to be South Park in all its glory.

Any word on if this affects the PC version?.

I don't get why anal probing keeps getting censored. Saints Row 4 had it censored somewhere too, I guess comically putting things up someones butt is too offensive now...

I do like the alternative though "each censored scene is replaced by an image background and a description text selected by Matt and Trey." Knowing their history with censors it'll probably be more explicit than the actual image.

Damn idiots... usually in Europe we're trying to have more 'liberal' view on these things, this comes as a shock to me (The worst censorship cases I've seen here is with Germany and they are applied only when talks are about Nazi etc... oh yea Manhunt was banned as well)

What the hell, why would you censor SouthPark? FUCKING MORONS... I'm really pissed now!

thank god i'm in america. can't wait to see some reviews on this game. i don't think i have ever wanted a game to be successful as much as the stick of truth.

Booo! Lame!

I actually really want it to do well too, the passion and effort they seem to have put into the game is huge.

I just hope someone who gets South Park's humour reviews it and not someone who can't take a joke and punishes the game for it

Good thing the PC version is unaffected by that nonsense.

Isn't this game Mature only? I can understand censorship if it's Teen rated.

sadly, it's bound to happen, south park is a VERY polarizing show and you will definitely get reviewers knocking it simply because they don't get SP's ultra dark satire/humor. obsidian is handling the gameplay, so i have faith in them pulling off some interesting turn based combat and the writing is handled by the almighty matt stone and trey parker so i definitely have high hopes for this game. we're basically going to have to go solely off of reviewers we trust on this one.

And cheaper. And better.

That seems odd, because the TV commercials in EU are wayyyyy more liberal than anythign you would see here in the states.

Ah, that sucks. :/

Still going to be an awesome game and I bet the replacement pics don't disappoint. I can't wait, It's definitely my most anticipated game this year.

We're amongst the first countries out there to legalize abortion, and it gets censored. Pretty funny.

I'll... I don't know. Whatever. I'll see whenever I pick it up.

Exactly, usually we're much more liberal than the rest of the world when it comes to things like religion, abortions, drugs, politics, gay-marriage, arts, human rights... so when I read this about SouthPark being censored I was like "WTF, why would they do that?". Just give it a Mature rating and cut the crap... ffs

That is incredibly Ironic lol

Are we only talking UK, cause europe is much bigger.

#28 Posted by lostrib (32942 posts) -

Those censored parts seem pretty over the top...although pretty par for the course in terms of south park

#29 Posted by mems_1224 (46157 posts) -

Pffft, what do you expect? Europeans are sissies.

#30 Edited by seanmcloughlin (38201 posts) -

It was already censored in other parts of Europe, they mention the UK because it was thought to be uncensored until today

In the same way that all Americans are overweight and uneducated? Sure.

#32 Posted by trugs26 (5209 posts) -

I'm guessing this is all PAL versions, including Australia and New Zealand?

I'll get it on PC it looks like.

#33 Posted by The_Last_Ride (69555 posts) -

Europeans just can't take a joke.

Yeah we can't take jokes... It's Ubisoft censoring it, we don't want anything censored...

I find it strange that its the entirety of the EU and most of the Middle East is censored and its the consoles only.... I'm feeling Sony and MS might have a hand in this.

Awww man:-(

According to Ubisoft it was purely marketing.

I guess they know not everyone the right age will play the game and they need to tailor marketing towards those people too. A lot of young people watch South Park so they will probably play it and consoles are the bread winners

Well that's simply asinine, and there's no way around it. Glad I don't live in Europe, and even if I did, I'd be playing it on PC.

Also, Sean! When did you get mod status? Congrats. You gonna take charge and clean up some of the system wars shit that the other mods don't seem to care about?

according to this new zealand supplier it looks like it will be ok - http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/South-Park-The-Stick-of-Truth-UNCUT/20630023

i believe new zealand often gets the uncensored version of games, whereas australia has tougher censorship laws. probably because you can see heaps of dirty stuff in all of hamilton's skate parks anyway.

I usually find Europe more open than America, why censor this, it's south park! Kind of a step back IMO.

Thanks dude :) I became a mod like this time last week or there abouts. I don't know if I'll clean up more but I'm certainly around a lot so hopefully nothing will get passed me

#43 Posted by CountBleck12 (22494 posts) -

Censorship just takes the fun away.

#44 Posted by sailor232 (4348 posts) -

I will be getting this for my PC, but I am really interested to see what Matt and Trey wrote as censorship material, I think that might be better than the actual uncensored stuff.

#45 Edited by millerlight89 (18338 posts) -

Kind of stupid. Europeans are a lot more mature in regards to the subject matter than most Americans. Americans go ape shit when they see a tit. This coming from an American.

well that makes no sense, why would you write southpark script and then censor it... I mean you know what kind of show it is, you know what you're producing.
It's like me going to make some porno movies and then fucking censor everything, yay makes sense.

#47 Edited by good_sk8er7 (4320 posts) -

I'm actually really starting to want this game. The more I see about it the more I want to get it. I love turn based rpgs.

#48 Posted by Alcapello (652 posts) -

Europeans just can't take a joke.

People will still import it, just look at this thread.

#50 Edited by Salt_The_Fries (8278 posts) -

I guess they stuck the proverbial stick up the ant hill too far. These scenes probably made some important points and now they're censored. Video games get the very worst treatment out of all media in this respect.
