If you've been following Kevin Van Ord is reviewing it and hoooo boy does he sound ruffled. Who wants to take bets on what's gonna be in the review?

Wouldn't be South Park without ruffling a few feathers.

AAAAE GOATOASTER CONFIRMED.

But super cereal guys, I'm so excited to pick my copy up tomorrow morning.

#4 Edited by Desmonic (13180 posts) -

If a South Park game didn't rustle anyone (especially the internet "white knights" like KVO) I'd be mighty disappointed! XD

Gonna be amazing! :D

I'm seriously looking forward to all the people flipping their shit over this game more than the game itself. It's gonna be a wild ride

#7 Posted by mems_1224 (46157 posts) -

It probably will be. GS has a stick up its ass and lacks a sense of humor

#8 Edited by Solid_Max13 (3525 posts) -

This game deserves a 8-9 I'm super cereal, if it doesn't I'm going to sue Kevin!! He's going to be so sued!!!

#9 Posted by DJ-Lafleur (34113 posts) -

Geez, what game isn't gong to get slammed by GS at this point?

#10 Posted by DocSanchez (1479 posts) -

It wont be politically righteous for the reviewers so they will protest about it.

#11 Posted by Shinobishyguy (22348 posts) -

@DocSanchez: the guys over at giantbomb seem to dig it. Then again they haven't brought into the SJW trend that's been sweeping the industry as of late

#12 Posted by Desmonic (13180 posts) -

Honestly, as long as the mechanics are sound (and not broken) it's more than enough for me! The fact it looks like an episode from the series and the story was written by Matt & Trey were already strong enough motives for me to be sold :P

#13 Posted by hamster3_3 (130 posts) -

I can't wait, I think I'm gonna freeze myself. Shame I have to wait till Friday for it here in the UK.

I'm just worried the game won't be funny. The show hasn't been funny in ages.

According to people on GAF it's joke after joke with some literal laugh out loud moments. But if you don't enjoy the show lately then it will likely fall flat as the game is practically just an 8 hour long episode

#18 Posted by DocSanchez (1479 posts) -

@Shinobishyguy: Oh absolutely. It's a fad and it will only die out because the people who indulge in it so frequently will eventually be found out and ousted.

Gamespot can't even preview a fuckin' Wolfenstein game without commenting how "uncomfortable" it made them feel. Wolfenstein! Jesus christ I do not need morality lessons from Gamespot.

#20 Posted by PonchoTaco (1930 posts) -

What if the game is deserving of a slamming?

#21 Edited by Shinobishyguy (22348 posts) -

@PonchoTaco: if it's bad on a fundamental level so be it. if theyre slamming it for the trademark southpark humor that has been going on for decades then why even bother? You shouldve known what you were getting into

#22 Posted by Ballroompirate (22183 posts) -

Would be a lot more funny to watch the review if Carolyn did it.

Is that the length of the game ? Seems rather short for an RPG.

That's playtime only I should add, not counting cutscenes. But another guy said he took his time and got about 13 hours out of it.

People shouldn't be expecting a super long drawn out, deep RPG anyway. It was never going to be that. I'm fine with a shorter game as long as it's focused, consistent and good. I'd rather 8-13 concise hours over 20-30 padded out with shitty side quests

This.

Devs should focus first and foremost on a GOOD main quest/storyline. If they have the time and the talent, then they can add a bund of side-stuff to have some variety and whatnot. This is (part of) the reason games like Gears and Uncharted (which have relatively short SP modes) have been successful : they manage to have 8-ish hours of good (if not great), fun content.

Obviously if it's a really short RPG it is kind of a bummer, but considering there are different classes there is some replayability (for those that end up enjoying it).

I'm still going to play it.

13 hours with cutscens is alright

8 hours with cutscenes, however, would not be alright for me.

And yeah, I get your point, I'd rather have 1 great hour of game than 20 padded hours. But if it's a really short game compared to other games in the genre I'm not going to pay full price and would rather get any other game of the same genre. Not talking about South Park in this case, I'm talking about consumer logic.

#29 Posted by R3FURBISHED (10172 posts) -

its south park, if its not offensive and insulting something is terribly wrong.

Of course there are limitations where it's just taking the piss. But I feel it's still going to good and will feel long. People have remarked that they felt like they had played a LOT longer than it said and that's what a good game does. They've also said it's very consistent in it's story and dialogue and you couldn't really ask for more in a game like this

People should be wary though that the gameplay mechanics aren't very deep or detailed and some people hit the level cap in the game hours before finishing it or their HP max just suddenly increased due to progression without really telling the person. I don't think it's gonna be a proper RPG like many think it will but should be fun nonetheless

I heard it was gonna get slammed in kotaku as well. I think jason is reviewing it. I also heard its a 10-20 hr RPG. That's a big problem. RPGs should not be that short.

Yeah, they said they didn't want to create something (in terms of mechanics) overly deep and complex in order not to scare the non-RPG crowd (since South Park in theory should have a broad appeal). Though, as long as it is fun I'm good :P

Stay away from Tumblr then. If you thought Carolyn's review of GTAV was dumb, then you would not believe the stupid shit people say on that Web site. There was actually a huge controversy about BioShock: Infinite being "racist" on there. They've also done nothing but bitch and moan about Frozen being a racist movie.

....how the bloody f*ck is Frozen racist? XD

#37 Posted by IMAHAPYHIPPO (2555 posts) -

There's one simple clue that the game isn't going to get great scores -- the review embargo lifts sixty seconds after the game is released. That's almost always are surefire way to tell the developers know they're not releasing a spectacular game.

That said, I don't really care. I just want to explore South Park.

I think it's because there's no black people in it. Doesn't it take place in northern Europe or something during the middle ages? I haven't watched it, lol.

South park locked and pre-loaded. Sad its not unlocking for another 20 hrs >:( Oh well

Have to say I'm actually happy for once that an RPG's not too long. I'd rather they have quality SP dialogue than padding it with unfunny awfulness.

I was half joking above, but i googled it. It's literally a bunch of idiots on the internet who are upset because everyone is white, and they think it does not appropriately portray the indigenous people of Scandinavia : http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/disneys-frozen-whitewashing-controversy

It's based on f*ckin Scandinavia (hint: North of Europe. When I say North, I mean as North as you can possibly go, literally).

The indigenous populous from said region are not known for being amazingly tan or black, or have any other colour in their skins besides white. The f*ck. F*ckin white knights.

Here are some pics of the Sámi people ( the ones they based their characters in). Notice how "black" and "tan" they are :

Same, I don't have time for a super long RPG these days and South Park's humour is best at shorter lengths.

I just hope it's good now, reviews will be worth waiting for

Hmm...I am searching through his twitter and haven't found anything yet to indicate what OP is talking about. This is the closest I've found: https://twitter.com/carolynmichelle/status/440570004031803392

To OP: Kevin V. has almost never been a "social justice warrior" in any of his reviews. Don't know where you're getting that from.

Apparently the white knights think they should be darker or asian looking in the 1800s, but even that seems to be false. The sami people don't seem to have an issue with the character's color, and it's just a few of them that have issue with how the culture is represented. The freaking movie is going to be shown at a Sami Film festival. Stupid people being over sensitive about every little thing

Also some guy broke embargo on youtube like an A-hole. He had about 7 parts of the game uploaded as recently as 3 hours ago. Ubisoft contacted him and he had to take them all down.

Guys like him ruin the whole early copy embargo stuff
