Sony: We will lose $60 per every PS4 sold. So buy our games this time cows.

Sony With the PS4 releasing this November for 399$, being 100$ cheaper than its rival, the Xbox One, many have wondered if Sony would have profit from the PS4's release. According to what Eurogamer has heard from well-placed sources, Sony is expecting a $60 loss on each PS4 sold. This was quickly denied by Masayasu Ito, Sony Japan's executive. According to Ito, Sony will be making profit from the moment users buy PlayStation Plus subscriptions and games. Ito also added that even without the purchase of games, the PS4 will incur a profit at a sooner point than PS3.

Makes sense for a faster breakeven per unit compared to PS3. PS4 is a very sensible build and price.

So yes, they will lose money if you don't buy games (lol Ito what kind of PR spin is that)? So you guys buy the software this time ok cows? ok. Sony ain't going to do to well if you wait another 45 years before you reach acceptable software attach rates.

But back to the original topic if they were losing 60 bucks a system then that means they arent overcharging their customers and infact willing to take a loss to offer their customers more for less. Thats good PR to me because it says "We will sell you the system for as little as we possibly can, if you buy some games then we both win".

So they are giving their customers more hardware than the xbox one for less money.

Really digging deep to find some excuse to complain for no reason arent you?

I would think part of loss is due to the 8GB GDDR5 ram. Otherwise MS would have the exact same in their console.

Oh that's also partly due to the planning. From the get go Sony gambled on a cheap availability of 512 meg GDDR5 modules by production time, whereas MS decided to go with DDR3 and tackle a different set of problems. The end result was over 20 trillion posts by Tormentos and Ron Valencia. 

If thats true ( which i think isnt as im pretty sure i read sony wont be losing any money like they did with the ps3 ) they can easily get that money back with game sales AND PS+ sales.

So all they have to do is sell 2 games per console purchased? Sony really did a great job planning this platform. Gotta admit, they are doing everything right this upcoming gen.

Gran Turismo 6(PS3) alone will offset any losses.

Plus they have killzone, knack, drive club, PS+ subscribers and then people will be buying extra controllers and stuff.

I agree that being a cow is a bad thing, but I don't see how simply buying a Playstation console makes you a cow.

THe only reason sony will be taking a hit is due to the yen. Still as soon as you buy a couple games that will not be a issue. This is a vast improvement over the hundreds lost on past consoles. The yen could also get stronger but either way Sony did a great job this time.
