Sony's Strategy to Bring in New Gamers

gonna try to make it short since I know you guys don't read much... The strategy is to make movies out of all their franchises to make non-gamers and gamers that have not played any of their exclusives interested.

Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted might not be as popular as Mario or Halo right now but after these films come out I'm pretty sure that both franchises will grow exponentially.

Isn't this strategy pure genius? Instead of wasting half a billion dollars like M$ does in marketing Sony will use that money to deliver their IP's to a media where they will live forever.

I know this is blog material and some bitter mod will lock the topic in a few minutes but I believe this is something worth discussing because Sony went from total failures at marketing to masters of the game. They will make money on those movies and then even more money from people wanting to try the games.

"Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time" is one of those criminally underrated Sony exclusive that sold only a million copies but a game of this quality deserves more just like the Sly Cooper series.

Not a bad plan at all. But the films NEED excellent marketing first and foremost. Shove this down our fuking throats Sony! If it works it'll mean we get more games like Sly and Ratchet. Games that have budgets between an indie and a AAA game.

Eeerrrmmmmm Kay..... I dont think they'll do well in the box office though.

MS goes the TV route to increase revenue and recognition and everyone laughs at them

Also the movies have to be good for it to work well, if the movies are shit then non gamers will see the game and think "isn't that from that shit movie?"

@gue1: I think the idea could work in theory... The more branding you can do the more interest a great franchise will garner... That said, all of these endeavors have to also be good! These companies have a hard enough time keeping their games high quality let alone pushing an agenda where movies and TV are stellar as well... It will be interesting to see if Sony and Microsoft attempts to branch their franchises in other mediums is good for the industry or makes it feel cheap and lame. I root for all games and platforms to be good so I'm rooting for them.

I think the movie section at Sony Just doesn't have any good ideas of a movie so they're making video game movies rather than it being a strategy it seems more like trying to bring Gamers to watch their movies. I don't see how it would work backwards.

That strategy has worked so well in the past. Mortal Kombat, Mario, Double Dragon, and the list goes on.

I hope that Sony does go through with this it will be great for the boards.

Who exactly is going to watch these movies? Particularly the ones posted. I could see a Halo movie finding some commercial success but that is about all.

I dont know it could happen.Its CG cartoon kids tend to go nuts for that stuff.

Yeah, I thought so as well. I'm interested in the NFS and Ratchet and Clank movie. Must be one of the few times I'm interested in seeing a movie based on a game.

1. sony is smart. they gaining allot of gamers this gen since multiplats basically the best games since last gen and they have a more powerful system and multiplats run better on their system.
2. they destroyed microsoft image, they attacked it so much even crappy developers like those from sniper series are taking shots at microsoft now. lol
3. they kept playing this card. "ooooh we dont want nintendo to die it will affect the business". they r lying. just today i saw a booth that had mario 3d world and knack. there where many kids gathering around it all lost interest in mario since they kept dying and one guy didnt even know where to go, he was running circles in the first area of mario 3d world. but all kid looks interested and excited when playing knack. knack is a crappy game for non kid (its tr apparently an amazing game in kids eyes) gamers but all kid including my cousin where waiting turns to play knack and where more excited with it.

sony is after every1 the kids and the adult gamers, they keep mentioning that about wiiu's death so that it sticks with peoples minds and every1 ignores that this year is drought compared to wiiu. either way ps4 is a must own (but not now for me ill get it in 2015 when many games had come out to it) because it is the system that provides the best experience this gen for multiplats. xbox f'ed up (i dont think it will last 2 years i see xbone stock everywhere and no1 is asking for it) and wiiu is a console for exclusives only (as a fan of ninty exclusives it is a must own console for me and i love it the most).

If this is strategy then cows are doomed. Very doomed.
