Sony PSP officially dead Sept 15th

The PlayStation Network will no longer support users accessing the PSN Store through their PSP’s on September 15th Sony says. The shutdown is only on the server side of things, so users can still download PSP content on their PS3, PS Vita, or PS4, then manually transfer it to their PSP’s if they like.

This is a disturbing sign that our consoles will no longer be able to access the PS Store once Sony decides to stop manufacturing them. I'm glad they're keeping the content up at least.

As far as I know it's not possible to download PS3 digital games on other systems, so they better not bring the PS3 store down for a long long time.

thanks op. I logged in to post this very same thing. I'm pretty sad about the whole thing. I was just considering getting a PSP to replace mine which stooped working, and was even negotiating with a seller over the price. But it looks like I won't even be able to get it in time to download any games before the shutdown takes place.

I *could* use Media Go. If I must. But Media Go is gross. What the hell, Sony..

You can still download your games from the download list, according to neogaf. There just wont be a store anymore, and anything to do with PSN like online games will probably not work either.

This, Bought one in good condition, really cheap and I have tons of shit on there now. Perfect.

PSP is still a great portable gaming device. I'm surprised at how good some of the games look, like Dissidia 012,Wipeout, and the god of war games. A custom firmware PSP is still a very useful device.

Like the original Xbox, and now PSP, this is why I don't trust Console DD.

Eventually, companies move on to newer platforms and that leaves the consumer standing there holding their dick. If you buy console DD cheap, sure you can accept this future. I feel for those paying full retail prices on console DD games and expect those stores to be supported forever. In most cases, people just don't think of the future, something I have to do all the time as a game collector.

PSP was a true handheld, I loved it back in the day. I still collect for it whenever I can, its so cheap too.

This is the main thing I've been worried about all along with DD on consoles. Can't get it anymore because the company moved on to a new system. This sort of problem does not exist on PC thankfully.

Its not surprising Sony is just trying to make us buy their Vita.. which i will NOT buy unless it has some fucking games! jesus! where is fucking loco-roco,patapon,JRPG's and other quirky games Sony is fucking known for? wtf is this uncharted and killzone bullshit?

Funnily enough i haven't used my PSP for almost 2yrs but last weekend spent over an hour playing Super Street Fighter Alpha 3.. It is a great handheld but now am busy with my PS Vita :)

I was just thinking about possibly buying a PSP for emulators this week. Can anyone tell me how good the SNES emulation on PSP is? The games I really care about are the Donkey Kong Country games, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, MegaMan X games, and Super Castlevania.

People are going to freak out in a few years when all of their PS+ games for the PS3 disappear.

@parkurtommo: it's not about a decade old system losing support. That's not important and is totally expected. The key question is whether or not we will still be able to download our games once systems stop being manufactured, especially if our old system breaks.

If manufacturers allowed games to be archived as backups, it would be a nonissue, but they place DRM on systems specifically to ensure that game backups cannot be made. That means that when a system breaks, if a game company doesn't allow the games to be redownloaded we simultaneously lose access to our entire digital collection. It would make long term game collection a nightmare if you invest heavily in digital downloads.

It's a moot point though, because for now it's a false alarm and Sony is still allowing games to be downloaded.

i have a psp vita i dont have a ps4 or ps3 I WILL NOT be buying another sony product if this one can't access the store to buy games i will be unable to by anything for my vita if i cant access the store and it will be useless to me
