PlayStation 4 has sold over 2 million in the UK in less than 18 months

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ps4-reaches-2m-sales-in-the-uk/0148966

"Reaching the milestone of two million PlayStation 4 consoles in the UK in less than 18 months is an achievement we are very proud of,”PlayStation’s UK boss

“To be the best selling 'next generation' console in Britain - installing faster even than the PlayStation 2 - is testament to an amazing and constantly improving product, the hard work of our trade partners and the team at PlayStation UK, and most importantly, the passion of the players. I would like to thank every one involved in helping us achieve this landmark."

Good to hear. Not overly surprising though since the number of gamers has increased since then.

Good!

On a side note, it sold 100k unites in Portugal, so far. That's alot for a country this small.

Not surprising, though the ps2 had such long legs that this is a skewed comparison.

True but i'd guess the Xbox One is more competitive than the original Xbox and the PS4 isn't pushing any kind of new format like the PS2 was for DVDs so there are some factors acting in the opposite direction.

Yeah, they reached 1mil halfway November, so probably at 1.5mil now, knowing Christmas still had to come.

"testament to an amazing and constantly improving product,"

New catch phrase. Soak it up SW's, this is real. PS4 is on a ROLL.

I was seriously contemplating ps'ing a PS4 on top of a dinner roll with a little butter to the side. Your posts inspire much goofiness in me.

Sold through, source

Check the last line: Numbers are based on GfK Chart-Track figures and are sold through to consumers.

Kudos! Good to see some real sold-through new when it comes to the Xbone. It's been a while.

Then there's this little gem in your article which now proves that 10M sold was to retailer now:

“We’re seeing fantastic momentum with Xbox One having sold almost 10 million units to retailers worldwide,” said Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle.

Something people rarely take into consideration. This has become a mainstream hobby, more so than it was in 2000. Also helps that the only competition they would have had were being lead by some retards that must have been smoking crack or something.

The combined sales of the Uk as reported at the end of february was 3.5 million.

1.5 is a bit low however, I'd say 1.6-1.7 by the current date.

Wither way that's the shortest gap of any country so far.

But that's also inflation. $300 in 1999-2000 was considered more expensive than $400 in 2013.

We know in March that the combined sales of ps4 and xboxone was 3 million in UK.

So its probably 2 million ps4 and maybe 1.2 ish Xboxones (assuming it shifted 100,000-200,000 units in April).

That was known, right? Microsoft said that they "almost" shipped 10 million consoles in the beginning of November, so that wasn't really news. But yeah as long as they are second, they aren't going to release sold numbers when shipped numbers look way better :)

Shortly, we will have sold in to retailers more than 10 million Xbox One consoles. Source

PS2 was selling because of its tremendous exclusives/time exclusives.

PS4 sales that much because competition is pathetic and its the only solid option for the rest of the generation ...

Wii U is dying as we speak while its library is quite limited despite 3-4 massive hits and its future almost none existant , while X1 felt into last gen motion controls hype , tried to offer a single console that will do what Wii did plus everything else Wii was missing and failed miserably ...

Therefore now that motion controls are out of the picture for X1 ( literally out ) , the centric marketing pusher idea for the system .. they left with an overpriced low end hardware with limited variety on its exclusives to compete with PS4 ... and yeah it CANT compete even with more than 6 price cuts and free games left and right in its first year !!! Thats a strong indicator of its position which is pretty sad compared to x360.

And i cant even think what will happen when PS4 will have its first big price cut ( 99$ + ) . So imho , yes PS4 is a success and kudos to Sony for keeping it real and learn from their mistakes( PS3) But PS4 has a long road other than sales to be able to be compared head to head with PS2 even if it sales as much ... it sales for entirely other reasons than PS2 did as we speak and one of them as i said ... is the pathetic state of competition which is almost non existant.

3.5 million based on what?

I don't think .5 million units of ps4+xboxone sold in April (unless April was the biggest selling month since launch)
