Im seriously hoping for JRPG type generation with the PS4 like the PS2!

Anyone else want another JRPG's focused generation? I SURE DO! PS2 days PLZ!

http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/04/05/sonys-adam-boyes-touring-japan-to-meet-many-developers-and-publishers-japanese-game-push-coming/

Sony is right now going around Japan doing meetings with a lot of Japanese developers and publishers but without any delay here is the story:

Looks like Sony Computer Entertainment Vice President of Publisher and Developer Relations Adam Boyes has been up to mischief lately, and precisely he’s been on a tour in Japan to meet developers and publishers.

The first to break the news was Capcom’s producer Yoshinori Ono, that tweeted about a visit from Boyes.

Thanks Adam @amboyes as SCEA for visiting to our office at Tokyo!! : D I could take good time!

After that, Boyes himself talked about a big presentation with a “huge room” full of Japanese developers and publishers.

"About to present to a huge room full of our Japanese pubs & developers and I’ve got the nastiest cold ever. Sake was prescribed as medicine."

If you want to know just how many representatives of developers and publishers were present, Boyes also tweeted a picture of said “huge room.”

Not so secret if you made a thread about it

It's about damn Time.

I really hope they have something to show for RPG's and japanese devs in general moving forward to E3 and Tokyo GameShow, I don't want just nothing but Uncharted and the order grabbing all the interest.

Hopefully secret games.

I wish they really would just announce these titles already, but Sony loves to prep the megatons.

To surprise us the gamers?

Who cares? Other than Nintendo and the Souls games, Japanese games on consoles suck.

This is the kinda stuff Ninty should be doing

Same here! heres hoping for a Ni No Kuni type game to come out too because those are the kind of games that would be great to have

I also think the most great thing to notice here is that SCEA is the one who's going around making presentations and meetings not SCEJ.

Super secret meetings, where the devs twitter about the super secret meetings.

Just changed the fucking title for all those nagging about that "secret" part in the title.

yup.

Let's just forget that From and Nintendo once consisted of young developers and upstarts themselves. This could be the ushering in of a new age of greatness.

I wonder if Japan's gaming industry will become relevant this generation, or will it perpetually be left in the archaic dust by the plethora of high quality Western/European dominated games.

"Im seriously hoping for JRPG type generation with the PS4 like the PS2!"

Not to ruin your hopes but don't expect this by the slightest. The market has changed severely, look at the PS4 sales for Japan. The insane stream of JRPG's and Japanese games was mostly due part to Japan's major PS2 success. This is looking to be an cinematic western triple A focussed generation in Xbox One and PS4's case.

Wasn't wild arms announced a few days ago?

Anyway, this how you do it.

Wonder how many japanese devs are developing games for Xbone...o right LOL

Yeah but your forgetting the PS4 dosent have any JRPGs on it yet for the Japanese gamers to pick one up for, all it has are action based games with the only upcoming JRPG is FF14 but im positive once FF15 hits it will do something pretty massive in there. the JRPG's need to come out for the Japanese gamers to be interested and i am truly hoping this is exactly what Sony is trying to do with all those meetings with the developers.

Yep it was confirmed but nobody knows which systems i mean while Sony expressed manjor interest in both the PS4 and Vita for the next wild arms it could end up being only on Vita so its hard to know right now but here's hoping either only PS4 or PS4 and Vita!

#22 Posted by RR360DD (11414 posts) -

Dat desperation.

You'll never have another gen like the PS2 because the japanese just don't give and shit about the PS4, and they never will.

#23 Posted by Shinobishyguy (22311 posts) -

They shouldve been doing this while gearing up for the japanese launch. Now it's flatlining over there

I dont give a shit about JRPGs, but hopefully these dying JP devs and dying JP game industry starts to kick it in gear.

It's what they definitely need for Japan.

my questions

  • how many of these potential games are going to be jrpgs? (not a huge fan of jrps)
  • how many of these potential games are going to be action-adventure games/action rpgs like Demon's Souls/Dark Souls, Bayonetta, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, and Catherine ect? games like this would get me excited
  • how many of the games will be published in the west?
  • how many of these games will be multiplatform?

Japanese console maker. Japanese games studios. What's the point of secrecy??

The games industry is more secretive than Hollywood as of late due to elongated development cycles. The days of announcing a game six years before it's launched is over. Publishers know that sales are hurt very badly when people are kept waiting a long time for an anticipated game so they are choosing to start games a year or two of actual production before announcing them (Hence the rise of "Project This or Project That" type of titles we hear a lot lately).

This is one area Sony suffered the most in last gen or at least til halfway through it. Microsoft would build relationships with devs and publishers and show up early to the party when it came to announcements and DLC. This time around, Sony is like "Yo dawg, whatcha working on? How can we play a role in this?" and it seems to be working.

The games industry operates A LOT behind closed doors now. It's seen as necessary since bigger budgets are on the line and hype makes or breaks entire businesses. So, it may seem silly to cover this kind of thing, but it's actually really important that Adam Boyes is working the "ground game" and spending time with people like this. A lesson well learned from MS and the 360 early days.

Literally don't care what they're doing in Japan all I want is what ever the hell is getting released there I want it localised! Bring those goddamn Gundam(not musou) games to the EU please.

Word on the street is that you won't be kept waiting as long as you did last gen. Since these new consoles are selling like hot cakes, the JRPG makers are not sitting on the fence quite like they did last gen. The goal is to sell about 700k units to fund a project and with the very real possibility of 15-20million PS4s being in circulation by the end of FY14, it's a tempting target for publishers to jump ship or cross-gen their titles for maximum sales. Also, expect anthologies and "Complete Editions" to spring up.

Fighting games for instance, is something that they continue to bring forward in quantity and quality the West will never match

If by quality you mean stuck in a time warp.

Also, for quality games they asure aren't selling very well....

There is no "pretending" -- there is, and there isn't. Japan hasn't been relevant since the PS2 days, even Sony caters to their western audience now. Look at the PS4 launch, they even delayed the Japan launch. Ouch.

I'm glad that you think Japan is relevant in the fighting genre, let me think of all the quality fighting games that came out in the past year... Um... hold on, it'll come to me. Oh, Injustice! Oh wait, Western Developer. Okay, um, I'll get back to you.

@Ballroompirate: both are in desperate need of Japanese games.

I agree but I think the Vita needs more love, the PS4 has been out for 7 months so I'm not worried.

#50 Edited by Capitan_Kid (6509 posts) -

@Stevo_the_gamer: Like I said. Ignorance is no excuse for your blatant disregard of japanese games. Youre making stupid generalizations over something you know very little. Injustice is one fighting game. Have you heard of Tekken 6, Tekken Tag 2, Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Guilty Gear, Persona 4 Arena, Blazblue, and more. Also Final Fantasy, no matter what you think of the quality, is still a heavy hitter and relevant to the RPG indistry . Then theres Atlus, NISA, and others building up the genre. Japan has always been relevant. Get your head out the sand
