Sony: Customers have to wait for Feb for replacements!!!

Sony has stated that those with Bricked, broken, infected, Overheated etc, Playstation 4 gaming consoles, will NOT GET REPLACEMENTS UNTIL FEBRUARY 2014!

This leaves me with a theory of Sony not producing more PS3's until 2014. Which means what they let out is what they have pretty much until the end of January. Luckily my PS4 is fine, an I made a new account especially for it (and because Sony won't transfer my other accounts contents) and IF YOU have a working PS4, you can add me at randcdeadlocked.

Call it sabotage, an acceptable margin of failure, or poor design, the fact still stands that many PlayStation 4 owners will have to wait months to get their consoles replaced.

The issues range from poor thermal dissipation which leads to overheating, while other reports suggest a red-ring-of-death type event where the PS4 will fail to boot, and will flash the status LEDs indicating an error. While this is common for the first devices off the assembly line, the true cause could be much more nefarious and could involve internal sabotage at the time of manufacture.

A report from Geek.com says that Sony is now telling customers that replacement PS4 units will not be available for shipping until February .If you purchased your dead PS4 from Amazon.com and opted for the extended warranty, then you could get your replacement console as early as January 2014, but you should expect to wait until Feburary like everyone else. Best Buy and GameStop also could see replacement units arrive as early as January, but that is still up in the air as well.

With such massive momentum against Xbox One in the last few months, these issues are the last thing Sony needed. With the Xbox One launching in just days many analyst are fully expecting it to become this holiday seasons best seller. What ever momentum Sony may have had left may have been forever removed if they can not figure out a way to get these issues fixed much earlier than January or February. Personally, I say buy or build a gaming PC and never look back. With SteamOS right around the corner and the years biggest titles out already, you can no go wrong with a PC!

The whole Last paragraph is BS and should be attacked in every post you make in this thread unless you actually think SteamOS will be worth anything, which is about the same as thinking Ouya is worth anything.

Now, I expect the Xbox One issues to have the same delay until 2014. Now I do have an Xone before the launch (I was supposed to have that with the PS4 as well but the freaking idiots at the job...) and while they don't brick your console, these issues on the X1 are permanent and will reoccur every boot up. And are very annoying. So both consoles will likely be replaced at the same rate.

If that's the case I'll be considering fighting for a full refund instead of a replacement if my console bricks. There is no reason I should be waiting three months when I paid to own something now, especially if there would be no compensation for my not having the product for that long.

It's a bit crazy that the system is selling out so much that it's impossible to get a replacement for months if one breaks.

LOL. I knew it, Sony fanboys keep denying it but the issues are very very apparent. It could be because of the sabotage in Foxconn and that Sony is finding a new manufacturer or manufacturing it themselves.

Some people might think they are safe, but the fact that it is only launch and your console is working does not mean you are safe. It might break down anytime.

lol Sony are notoriously TERRIBLE with handling warranties. I sure hope you guys saved your PoP (proof of purchase) because without that you are shit out of luck. At my job we stopped trying to warranty sony products all together. They are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more difficult to deal with than Nintendo who asks no questions and Microsoft who doesn't ask many questions either although they will red flag your account if you warranty too many things (most people will never get this far). One of the reasons why I'm skipping launch is to avoid dealing with the Sony RMA process if I was unlucky enough to get a defective launch unit.

Sounds a bit strange to me, Sony should give their customers number one priority. And why would it take 3 months to repair a console... calling this BS.

I went and got a refund for my PS4 today. It would play but if I put it in standby mode or switched to my TV (Another HDMI imput) the system would always freeze up where there was no picture, the light on the controller froze white, and it would not turn off by itself. Obviously I would have to unplug the system and turn it back on that way. Well apparently that messed up the hardware somehow and Sony would not fix it for free. Luckily the guys at Gamestop took it back and said they have had several come back already.
I am keeping my games but will wait til this is fixed before spending money on another one. I will have the XBONE to keep me busy til then.

PS4 owners don't have games to play until March anyways.

Could be they are understaffed and have more defective units than they planned for. And this early in the game they dont have refurbs on hand to exchange.

Frankly i think companies should just bite the bullet and send customers a brand new unit instead of making them wait for repairs.

Although there is also the distinct possibility this is indeed BS.

Everyone knew once we did not see PS4 kiosks there was a big problem with the console. Like I said a hundred times already Sony is not very good at handling problems with their hardware.

Well that sucks. I guess sony doesn't feel too rushed since they already paid for the console and want to keep roping in as many new buyers as possible... orr they don't plan on shipping many more units out until next year anyway.

If people are waiting that long, then I have a conjecture that the failure rate exceeds 'normal', or 'expected' amounts.

Why?

Because of the logistics of supply chain management. Failures should have been predicted, calculated, and factored in. From these calculations you 'guess' what sort of stock level you need in order to accommodate failures under warranty.

If people are waiting so long now, Sony must not have the stock. Why don't they have the stock? Well, they either decided to hold no inventory (this would just be stupid). Or, the failures are beyond their expectation, and although this would be unpopular with some people I think it's more likely than Sony choosing to hold no warranty inventory.

Any thoughts?

1. I hope the bricking only affects a small portion of the PS4 owners - cause that shit sucks
2. Have Sony really sold all of their PS4s? Are you not going to be able to find any on Black Friday?

What you should do is contact Sony and ask about their return policies, supplies etc. before just at face value taking some random guy's word for that some random support rep didn't misspeak or the random guy misinterpreted. Etc. It's annoying that this crappy journalism spreads, clogs up and dilutes the information pipes.

Basically what I'm saying is that I should stop opening threads created by this Jake guy, because all he seems to do is find these obscure sites and whatever sensational crap it is they're spouting, of which I'd otherwise be blissfully unaware.

Thats really good. One of the strongest most reliable hardware launches ever.

But of course in this day and age of the internet where any one can get on the internet and anonymously complain, the issue will be blown up way bigger than what it really is.

When anyone complains of a bricked PS4, i demand visual evidence or else I disregard it. You should do the same.

Sony is still doing as best as they can, but shipments to stores HAVE to be the bigger priority, THEN they can make shipments to replace the 2% of bricked PS4s out there.

Good luck once you get that refurbished one (some one else repaired shit console) like with the PS3 just after launch, I would personally take a refund and buy a brand new one somewhere around February.

At least MS gave 3 years with the 360 RROD , Sony just gave you the bird, ignored it and pretended the Ylod on the first batch never happened .

I'm waiting at least 6 months before handing over the cash .
