The Chinese console war begins.

The PS4 and PlayStation Vita will officially be launched in China very early next year.
Sony will release the machines on January 11th priced at CY 2,899 (£299) and CY 1,299 (£134) respectively. The PS4 will include a 500GB HDD and controller while it appears the Vita will only include the 1GB of internal memory and not an additional card.
70 third party publishers and developers are on board to deliver content to the region, with a handful of Chinese titles having already been confirmed – King of Wushu (Suzhou Snail Digital), Mr Pumpkin Adventure (Shanghai Youju) and One Tap Hero (Shanghai Kena).
Chinese companies Modian and Shanghai Oriental Pearl Culture Development will be at hand to support Chinese devs through the process of producing PS4 games in the region.
A number of Western devs are signed up to the Chinese program, too, including EA, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Warner Bros, Disney, Bethesda, Codemasters, CD Projeckt, Focus, Halfbrick and Nordic Games.
“PS4 is expanding at the fastest rate in PlayStation hardware history, and the global gaming community is enjoying the ultimate entertainment experience only available on PlayStation,” SCE president and CEO Andrew House said.
“We are delighted that we are able to fully launch our business in China, which is a market with great potential. We look forward to delivering exciting software, convenient services and entertainment experiences only possible on PlayStation to the many gamers in China.”
Xbox One, which launched in China back in September, costs CY 3,699 (£380) for the vanilla version and CY 4,299 (£443) for the Kinect SKU.

What makes you think a Japanese console is going to do well in China? Do you not know the history between China and Japan?

Do you have any proof any relationship between the two affects the consumer electronics markets in China? How ever it performs, it's gonna do better than the Xbox brand, guaranteed.

That's not an entirely accurate view of the market there. Almost every Chinese smart phone has Japanese parts in them and 0 fucks are given.

Merely judging from the price point, it seems Sony made the smart move. However, in China, regular console market rules don't seem to really apply. Time will tell.

I'm thinking, that in the instance that the Chinese government doesn't go back on this decision, MS and Sony will open up the market for the next gen. This gen they'll likely make mistakes and not be able to maximize sales.

DRM will make or break the PS4 in China. If they're forced into the same system as the Xbone it'll be as much a waste of time as India was.

True however the brand is Chinese so average Joe doesn't see it. Buying from the Japanese is an nessarty for business. Business knows no boundaries or wars or history but the brand that Chinese Joe Bloggs see's is a Chinese one.

Evidence is there, MS hasn't released any sales figures for China, a country dominated by PC and mobile gaming, added into the mix is a heavy handed censorship scheme. On top of the fact that Sony is the largest Japanese electronics company, their products sell but no where near the amount they do in other markets. The China's don't care for Japanese stuff, China now has a growing market for its own brands. No longer is China just the warehouse of the West, selling knock offs. Chinese branded phones are making waves and are starting to be picked up by Western markets now. China doesn't care about consoles, what makes you think they will all suddenly jump up and flock to it?

Do you know or have any friends? from China? I've live in China for a few years due to work related. I can tell you that alot of people import PS3 and PSP from places like Hong Kong. Also Japanese manga is huge in China, so to say China will not buy a Japanese console or products are total BS. One last thing in case you do not know, people in China really do not like USA product ( beside IPhone ) at all, because alot of them thing the quality control are horrible due to dumb and lazy American. (not BS here.)

Sony set to dominate China as well. I'm amazed at the amount of misinformed people on here that think Japanese products don't sell in China. If it's a product they want, it doesn't matter where it's from.

The PS4 won't be a huge seller, but it'll sell more than the Xbone. China loves their F2P games, and it doesn't hurt it's cheaper in price.

With a price like that, the PS4 is going to be beaten in the Chinese market.... by its own cheap PS4 knock-offs.

That's great you googled something. Now prove how that relates or affects Chinese people buying PS4s. I'll wait.

Doesn't matter much. China is capped for how many PS4s they will allow.
