Yeah... no. Wii U has at least two years (late 2017 at the earliest) before the NX arrives. I would hope Nintendo wouldn't make the Wii U barren at that point, I know they'll need launch games, but I'm sure they've got some games coming that will be shown at E3 2016.

What's really shocking is there has only been 4 games TOTAL released this year for the console.

I'm not bothering with their next console, I'll stick with their handhelds.

Reveal is 2016 though, at least, according to Nintendo. Wii U was revealed in 2011 and launched in 2012. I assume it would be the same for the NX, if not then that would be a shame. I wouldn't be surprised though. :P

It seems that way...i doubt Nintendo will make another big game fot the WiiU, specially now that they have already shut down Metroid for this gen.

Well 4 games for a console and its already June is pretty thin. The console needs 3rd party games, otherwise there are massive droughts. To compound the problem, I have grown franchise fatigue for Nintendo's first party. Nothing wrong with the quality of the games, I'm just tired of playing them after 20+ years.

I am looking forward to Chronicles X, so I'll pick that up for sure and I'll probably see how Zelda turns out. I was disappointed with Star Fox, so that has to really turn it around for me to look at it.

I Know mate, im just saying, Nintendo is only one company but yet they produce quality that beast all in 2015 so far. Thats 3 awesome games from Nintendo so far this year compared to 4 awesome games total in rest of industry, one of them being on Wii U. I know we still have droughts, but atleast we got water.

I count first release dates which is all that matters.

Splatoon, Mario Party 10, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Lego Jurassic World dont make for a good 2015 thus far. I'm not even talking first part, which I know Splatoon is good, I'm talking the total amount of games available to purchase for the console.

Those 4 games cant compare to what the X1/PS4 are getting.

If you enjoy the console, then that's great, I'm just saying to me its hard justifying it. Even at E3 it seems Nintendo is giving it scraps and saving games for their NX project.

Except the Wii U is considered a failure, even in Nintendo's eyes.

I would not be surprised at all if Zelda launched on both the NX and Wii U next year.

Dont forget to check out third party for Wii U in Eshop for 2015, ill only post the cool ones, we got that cool Adventures of Pip game, Affordable Space Adventures, Lego Jurassic World, Swords & Soldiers II, Nihilumbra, Elliot Quest, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars, OlliOlli, Blek, Citizens of Earth . I know its not much, but its something.

Then you would have to do that for all my dates. All my dates are when the systems released in America.

I can imagine Nintendo stringing out the Wii U until 2017, due largely to Zelda, but I dread the gaps they have to fill in between.

If Nintendo completely halted all other unannounced Wii U projects and moved them to NX, would its current lineup be enough to tide you over until 2017? If your answer to that is yes, it really shouldn't be.

Wii U is selling at profit, its also selling software like hotcakes. I mean its insane, out of 10 million WiiU owners, bout 6 million own Mario Kart, thats like a 60% install base. As long as Nintendo sales software from their studios they will be good. Nintendos studios didnt do to good in Wii era, out of 100 million customers not many were actually buying from Nintendo studios. Kirby sold like 1 million out of 100 million customers, thats pretty sad.

It doesn't matter at this point. It's clear Nintendo has already dropped support of the Wii U and are turning their focus on their next console, the NX. They've already confirmed that a Metroid won't be coming to the Wii U and I wouldn't be surprised if Zelda gets shifted to the NX instead.

Is that why theyre releasing Star Fox Zero, Yoshis Wooly World, Super Mario Maker, Mario Tennis, and Xenoblade Chronicles X for the holidays???

Nintendo must have some sick fetish of playing with dead things.

Pretty sure the larger profits come from third party software, and the Wii U currently has none of that.

@JangoWuzHere: I think it is minor, Nintendo made it clear Wii U would not cater to casuals, they stated casuals dont buy Nintendo games. Sure Wii was great for short term profits, but it is bad for long term, thats why Nintendo had to switch it up or risk losing some of its precious studios to shovelware. The decision was clear, cater to the hardcore, give them great games, and hope they eat that shat up. So far its working, bout all of Nintendos Studios are actually selling solid, more solid then on Wii.

Check out this list of top selling Wii games, ignore the bundle games that came with systems, controllers, accessories etc, scroll all the way down to Nintendos beloved studios and look at them disgraceful numbers. Remember this install base is 100 million.

Okay, look. In 2014, Microsoft announced Crackdown 3, Scalebound and Quantum Break. At E3, which is the biggest gaming announcement of the year. This E3, those games were nowhere to be found; however, they did show off NEW games, like Halo, Gears, Forza, Recore, Ashen, Sea of Thieves, and our first look at Tomb Raider in action.

Last E3 for Nintendo, we heard about Xenoblade. We heard about Mario Maker. Yoshi's Wooly World was there too. The only newly announced game for Wii U this E3 was a Mario Tennis game. Compare Nintendo's flow of game announcements compared to Microsoft's. That's why people are so angry with Nintendo; not because those games are coming this holiday, but because we already knew they were and E3 showed no faith for commitment to the Wii U after these year-old games are released.

Less games = more people are going to buy. There isn't a ton of games compared to the Wii's life; and it's definitely a different audience this time around. Casuals (wii owners) definitely are not going to be buying the same games as the more dedicated fans (wii u owners) will be.

Also, just because Mario Kart 8 sold 6 million copies or whatever doesn't mean Nintendo turned a single penny in profit from it. You have to remember how much money they were losing over the fiscal year, it's not like they suddenly go back in the black and out of the red. The wins have to cover all the losses before profit happens.

I could care less about what people expect and feel entitled to. Nintendo promised 2015 games and thats what we got. Nintendo is not gonna release 10 Wii U games for the Holidays with an install base of 9 million. That would be suicide. They made a mistake releasing Smash, Mario Kart, and Bayonetta and all them other games in one year and look what happen, it caused the other games to struggle some. They should have broke up Smash and Kart, but Niintendo took a risk and it didnt pay off. Nintendo gave us awesome content exposure for E3 like promised, they gave us the Championships like promised, they gave us Smash stuff like promised, and they gave us a few new things like Mario Tennis, 3DS games, Amiibos, Skylander merger, It was pretty good E3, sure nobody got that big AAA game they wanted, but o well, you cant always get what you want.

Glad I never bought one. To drop support like that so early.

Mate, all companies lose a little for awhile when releasing new products, they have to recover their production cost, research & development, etc.

nothing you wrote makes any sense. 2014 was a good year for the wii u, as both smash and mario kart 8 sold millions and were critically successful. bayonetta 2 was never going to sell well as its a niche title not for everyone, and its exclusive.

you could care less about what people expect and feel entitled to. and you also don't care about direct competition, like microsoft, doing so much more in the games department. at least maybe these posts will put it in perspective and you'll understand why the wii u is so far behind ps4 and xbox.

None of you guys will be talking like this when a new Mario or Kirby is released.

Very true, i would love to have my Kirby Dreamland on Wii U, i know Kirby struggled with the 100 million consumer base on Wii, but im hoping Nintendo can work some magic. Im happy they gave me Kirby Triple Deluxe though, i love that game to death.

I can see the Wii-U being in a similar situation the Wii was in where it dies over a year before the next console is out. So it doesn't really matter if the NX is still 2 years off if Nintendo stops supporting the Wii-U now (their E3 DE unfortunately strongly supports this). We're still stuck with a dead console...

Took the words right out of my mouth. 3DS all the way from this point on and I'm fine where were at with 3DS so it can stay in the market for at least 4 more years. i already invested a lot of money on my 3DS and very little gaming on my Wii U.

Um... they announced a release date for the NX (which is a codename) and confirmed that Zelda is the last game on the Wii U?

To put it more perspective, Metroid Prime is a good example, Nintendo stated that if they work on a new Metroid right now, it will take them 3 years to be release for Wii U but Nintendo isn't going to make it cause there's a chance that there new console might be release within next or so year so making any major 1st party exclusive is a waste of money to Nintendo. OP should've been more clear of his title but Zelda isn't the last exclusive and I expect Zelda Wii U to push the Wii U hardware to it's limits. What I'm trying to say is, any 1st party exclusive that is still in development for Wii U just needs to be release and move on to the next console.

Kirby- RTD was so underrated. It was one of the best games for the Wii; and Triple Deluxe FTW. I dunno why Ninty decided on created that Rainbow curse game, which I'm going to take a gamble, wasn't supposed to be a Kirby game.

@XboxStache: They made it cause it was cheap for development i think. Kirby Canvas Curse was liked by many on DS and i think they wanted to have a game to where people would use the Gamepad. I think they will give us another Dreamland, but we can Kiss Kirby Yarn goodbye. Which i dont mind at all, im ready to play Yoshi Wooly World and think it was great choice to use him instead of Kirby, if they used Kirby people would scream rehash on it.

But yeah i agree, Kirbys on Wii were very underrated and didnt sell good, even with 100 million customers.

@PikminWorld: Wii was barren in 2012 with the exception of Xenoblade, which was just a localization of a game made in 2010. GameCube was barren in 2006 with the exception of TP, which released first on Wii. Unlike Sony consoles, the last year of Nintendo consoles tend to be almost completely barren, so a weak 2017 would be in keeping with past practice.

All I see here is layers of speculation wrapped up in unfounded assumptions.

We don't know what the NX is. We do know that it won't even be announced until next year. Looking at Nintendo's history...the Gamecube had a 13 month gap between announcement and launch. The Wii, 7 months. The Wii U, 17 months. The DS, 12 months. The 3DS, 11 months.

So if the NX is a piece of hardware announced at E3 next year, the numbers show that it won't launch until 2017.

As for whether Zelda will be the last great game on the Wii U, that's just a shot in the dark. It's possible. It might not be. We have no idea what Nintendo's 2016 release schedule looks like.
