Sega, a great company that seems to be focusing mostly on Rome expansions and Sonic instead of expanding (Not including Atlus), has recently released Sonic Lost World. Which is not good

Sonic has had a hard time making a comeback, Generations was a good first step but they blew that already. What exactly should they do? Give Sonic up? Maybe have longer dev times? Maybe have a third party help with development with higher production values?(They did that with generations)

I think they should make another Generations type of game.

Well aside from improving the god awful gameplay. I think Sonic needs to go back to a more darker tone. They keep kiddifying it with these cheesy characters, dialog, absurd voice acting they keep adding, it really puts me off these new Sonic games.

I don't see the logic in this.

I actually liked what Sonic 06 was going for as it was in the same path as Adventure 1 and 2, bu they messed everything else up. Now it's trying to hard to be something else.

I really liked Sonic Generations due to the classic gameplay. If they could focus on a Sonic game entirely like classic Sonic in Generations, they would have a winner. Instead, Sonic Team decided to go back to making crap.

Stop with the useless gimmicks like parkour and a run button, and go back to fast 3D gameplay like in the Adventures and Generations.

If you are going to put a gimmick, make sure it makes gameplay cooler rather than hinder it.

Get away from speeding through the stages and go back to just platforming. Speed is his trait, not what made his games great. All the golden Sonic games were about Platforming, not speed. Sure you could blast through certain areas of the stage but not the entire stage. Try blasting through Spring Yard or Marble Zone and see what happens.

Lost worlds is a great attempt at going back to platforming, Generations and Colors were as well. I actually liked the Werehog stages on the Wii version of Unleashed because they focused on platforming. Add the hidden Golden Rings and Chaos Emeralds back and sonic can become golden again.

Ive never been a sonic fan, but I think they should make it in a huge free roam and diverse world, RPG style. What I mean by 'RPG style' is, while you roam around killing other mobs or creatures, your character levels, up them you could unlock cool abilities and items or anything else. All in a large area. Try making it in 3rd person veiw. That will be a huge and amazing change for a sonic game.

Actually, the writing has been consistently shit for the characters and the plot since they started focusing on it. It's half the reason why Sonic is ridiculed to no end these days, and it doesn't matter how they change that up.

What any sane person would do at this point, and what they should have done since the beginning is keep the plot minimalistic. Like in the Mario platformers and the 16 bit Sonic games. Move the plot and characterize the characters through music, gestures and the level design.

Also, they should have made Generations 2. Sonic Generations was a great game, so they had a foundation to work with. They only needed to improve upon it with a huge new slate of creative levels and improved mechanics.

Sonic became more and more focused on Speed every entry in than both speed and platforming but you have a good point.

That doesn't work in 3D, especially for Sonic. Heck it doesn't work for Mario in 3D either they at least have a plot to go with. I also don't get people saying Sonic should go back to 2D. Sonic 4 was bad, Sonic 4 part 2 was bad, the Ios games were bad. Sonic Advance 3 was bad. Sonic Rush ADV was bad, Both Sonic Rivals games were decent but limited and repetitive.

Adventure 1/2 was chock full of gimmicky gameplay styles. I'd argue that the Adventure games, while not bad exactly, started Sonic's downward spiral.

It would work perfectly fine if it were properly designed. I think you misinterpreted what i meant by saying that Sonic should have a minimalistic plot. Every single Mario platformer has a minimalistic plot.

I can't comprehend why it wouldn't be in Sonic's favour considering that a lot of the critical downfall is also in part with how absolute shit the writing for the characters and story has been in Sonic games ever since the developers started to focus more on that.

Meh, who cares? Sonic has never been that great even at its peak. The 2D games were fun, but shallow and the actual platforming was meh. I liked adventure, but I doubt the gameplay holds up. Generations was alright... I guess just work off of that.

I'd say actually spend a lot of time making a new game and make sure its actually GOOD. Instead of pumping out a new game every year.

In sonic, because of the nature of the games, things like controls and level design have to be perfect or else the game doesn't work. The same goes for mario, but this is why mario has succeeded more often where sonic hasn't. Nintendo puts a lot of time developing the games making sure everything is spot on. Sega tends to just throw these games together with a bunch of new ideas, and hope it works when its done. More often than not though the final product doesn't come together because either the controls, or the level design ends up being half baked.

make an adult Sonic game, and by adult I mean like a porno, in which antropomorphic animals do the nasty, and add ponies while they're at it, then furies and bronies will have something to make them soooo happy

it'll be the must have game for people with this strange sexual fetish, and will probably outsell any other Sonic game ever created

I think SEGA needs just to focus on Sonic move all those pointless characters to one side and just give him pure platforming fun like Colors or Generations and bringing back Chao Gardens would sweeten the deal and add multiple missions like Sonic Adventure 2 did.

Darker tone resulted in Shadow the Hedgehog and 2006. Whatever Sonic needs to do to stop sucking, making it darker and more srs isn't going to work.

The setting, characters, and aesthetic don't lend themselves well to being taken seriously, really.

No it wasn't. I would love to see you speed all the way through Labyrinth Zone, Hill Top Zone or Mystic Caves. You would die in a heartbeat.

In the good Sonic games, you actually had to STOP at times and think of how in the world you were going to get past areas instead of holding forward and just pressing jump at the right times like the speed based Sonic games do.

How on earth did a darker tone result in it being a poorly designed game? Those two things are completely unrelated and I'm not talking about Shadow the Hedgehog dark. Lol. I'm simply talking of a more darker toned atmosphere, get rid of the toonified characters they've introduced and horrendous voice overs. The genesis games had a lot more of a dark tone and atmosphere to them.

A Sonic game with the quality of the first trilogy on Megadrive. I don't know what Sega did with Sonic 4's gameplay, but it plays terribly; and Sonic in 3D simply doesn't work for me!

It's impressive how the first 3 games nailed the gameplay and still feel perfect! I still love to play them once in a while.
