Yep you got that right, gamers are getting screwed in Canada as game prices have increased from $59.99 to $69.99....

So that means $69.99+ 13% Tax= 79.08..Aprox $80

this change in price includes BestBuy, FutureShop, EBgames, Amazon and yes even PSN and XBLA...

Games that are affected are Infamous Second Son ( $69.99 ), Lord of Shadows ( $69.99 ), FFX HD and far more others.

Some games have gotten a $5 increase while others a straight up $10 increase.

Why? its because of the low Canadian dollar.. do they lower the prices when the canadian dollar is strong? of course not only when its lower.. -_-

goodbye day 1 purchases and hello the waiting for price drops -_-

Which is weird given that the Canadian dollar has been lower than now before, and game prices remained the same.

Don't like it? Come to Australia where 12 months Xbox Live Gold costs $89, and games are released at $99.95. I'll happily exchange passports with you good sir.

I live in Canada. Only increase I've seen are some 3DS games, some are up to $44 instead of $ 39. (EB games only)

No wonder Australians hate Nintendo. Region locking must be a pain, isn't it?

$10 tax for a video game is a crime...that would suck, seriously that has to suck for Canadian gamers.

Same in Poland. Except we earn at least 4 times less than Canucks. And oh - Xbox One isn't even out here yet.

Eh. N64 and SNES games were the same price. I remember Ken Griffey Jr. baseball for SNES being so expensive. I think it was $79.99.

Yep, they can say goodbye to my day one dollar. Just on principle.

Also, Alberta, 5%, suck it.

(Seriously though, **** this change. I won't be buying any higher than $60, and would recommend nobody else does either, unless you want to send the message that this shit is OK to publishers.)

Thats exactly what im doing too.. wont spend a cent towards any game higher $59.99 ( which is why i been lately buying directly from PSN store since it dosent charge tax and most games still havent got the price hike yet like Tales of Symphonia which is bought exactly $39.99 no tax included ). i mean wasnt paying $67 ( including tax ) for a game enough? now its almost $80? gtfo

@Bigboi500:

Exactly. I buy one or two games at full price a year. There are so many games that waiting for the new games to drop in price isn't a problem.

$60 is a lot of money.

$60 isn't much at all, but for the value you receive for that price doesn't match it 90% of the time. I'm the same though, I only buy a couple of games at that price per year.

Agree to that brother. I like shopping at EB games because the team there is very friendly and they pretty much know me. But with their prices I'd be an idiot to do so, so thank goodness for JB Hi Fi.

Just compared ordering InFamous second son, and Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes from Amazon.com VS Amazon.ca. Shipping was obviously higher, and while InFamous still came to $72, it's still better than $75. Ground Zeroes ended up being $3 more from .com

Well, that might be a case by case fix.....this really pisses me off.

This happens every launch in Canada. All next gen games jump up $10 for the first couple years. Then the companies realize Canadians don't like paying that much then drop them back to the normal $60. They have been doing this since the NES days. Not worried.

Well the change has suddenly happened and its something we arent used to thats why im complaining, video games been retailed at $60 for years and now all of a sudden they are $70? wtf! if there were an increase in salary that would make sense besides havent those high prices in Australia been like that for like ever now? its completely unrelated because Canada have always had the exact prices as the USA and $10 or $20 with tax is too much

No one said they should be free. "Gaming is a priviledge not right" - you can say that to someone who wants to but has yet to start playing video games, not to someone who's already been a gamer for a number of years and sees no reason why there should be a spike out of sudden, especially when we have such ubiquitious phenomena as: DLC, Season Passes and microtransactions.

Nobody expects games to be free, but they should equal the value of the cost yet they rarely do. Having money doesn't mean you should run out and buy everything they're selling to you blindly. Some think that's "supporting the devs" but it's really just supporting pork-barrel profiting.

Over the years I've read some comments that brag about buying everything new @ full price, yet most of those kinds of people only buy a few games a year. That's hardly anything to boast about, and not supporting the system any more than anyone else who actually pays for games.

Smart people shop around and have patience, they are the gamers who are responsible for the existence of the price cut, and if more people waited the price would be lower from the start. Those early adopters and boasters are the reason the games start out high, because there's a market for it.

In the UK it costs £47.99 from amazon which converts to $88.34 (CDN). So who exactly is getting screwed here ^^. Or the other way around $79.08 converts to £42.96.

Big fucking deal.
