So far, only Microsoft does remakes and not just remasters?

Case in point:

Fable Anniversary on Xbox 360 earlier this year, with completely redone graphics using new assets and many tweaks to the gameplay and user interface

Master Chief Collection which only ups the resolution and asset quality of three Halo 1, 3 and 4 but offers a complete overhaul of Halo 2, both in-game graphics and cutscenes as well as several maps that are redone from the ground-up

Next is Phantom Dust that is also shaping up not to be a remaster but a proper remake.

What has the competition offered so far?

Apart from Nintendo's Wind WakerI cannot think of anything else (however I would look forward to some more ones by Ninty). Sony is yet to do a proper remake of any game this generation.

P.S. I might be mistaken with regards to Nintendo and Sony as I'm not sure about any proper remakes for handhelds, I intended this thread to be about consoles only.

Sony did a remake of Superman 64, I forgot its name... uh, Killzone Shadow Fall? Knack?

Nintendo has done a bunch of them on handhelds. As far as consoles go, the only one I can think of is Wind Waker.

Didn't knew Sony was making the game and then releasing it on every other platform.

Nintendo remade all the Super Mario Bros game with Super Mario Bros All Stars for the Snes.

Those remake graphics are but a very expensive Croatian export.

Outside of Microsoft and Croteam, i can't think of much other developers who do proper HD remakes.

@Salt_The_Fries: your P.S. addressed my comment. Ocarina of Time 3D was a great remake when you compare it to the original, which is still an awesome game. But I learned to really love ico , sotc HD and gow collection last gen.

Agreed. But I will shit diamonds before I play a Pokemon game. I was too old by the time they became a thing and just am lost on it.

@cainetao11: If you can ever find one for cheap (lol, finding a Pokemon game for cheap), do give it a shot! I know the exterior is all kiddy and cutesy, but underneath it all is one of the deepest and most nuanced games around =)

I don't get it. Most people in SW are bitching about resources being diverted to old games for remasters, and this thread is bragging about dumping More resources into full blown remakes?

What does it show about how gameplay pretty much stayed the same across the board if they are just upping the graphics from a 10 year old game?

It seems like Microsoft has done a better job than the rest, if we're not counting Nintendo's remakes on handhelds. However, I think Wind Waker is a prime example how to truly remake a classic game. They improved controls, smoothed out issues from the original (adding the Swift Sail, etc.), along with highly improved visuals.

I remember being impressed with Halo Anniversary, but the controls remained intact from the 2001 Xbox game, and I don't expect that to change with the Master Chief Collection. On the opposite end of that, I have a hard time believing that anybody can *actually* find too much to complain about with Microsoft offering four complete titles with original multiplayer for the price of a new release. Kudos to them. That takes balls, especially when they could have sold Halo 2 for 40 or 50 bucks.

I'd like to see a Blinx 1 and 2 remake, since we're doing them. Those are games I never got to play, and I'm interested in playing them. A Brute Force one would be cool too, great game.

@Salt_The_Fries: the new halo game is still a remaster. 343 calls it a remaster. IGN, gameinformer, everyone does. Its because its a remaster.... Remake would be like goldeneye n64 to wii version.
