First, I'm not here to bash consoles, or put PC on the pedestal, because this indie game IS a multiplatform title, but I'm here to give you guys a reality check about this insane sales of blockbuster titles.
In terms of the past generation of titles, do you know where GTA IV and GTA V stand, sales-wise?
- GTA IV sold 25 million copies. It's better than Mario Kart DS (23.34M copies) and worse than...
- Call of Duty Black Ops which sold 26.8 million copies. Although that looks great, it failed to beat GTA San Andreas which sold 27.5 million copies. Then we have...
- GTA V which sold 29 million copies, and yes, still counting.
But do you know which game managed to own them all?
This blocky piece of shit for which I never understood why the hell is so damned popular. Sure, sure. Community is huge, people make incredible stuff in there.
It sold 33 million copies so far, and counting. 33 fucking million. An indie game.
So anyway, with Irrational Games shutting its doors and potentially shifting to indie development, with many of former industry legends also jumping the indie ship... CliffyB included.
I mean, number don't lie. Those are insane sales figures. Then we also have Rust, Starbound and other several indie titles which managed to score really respectful sales figures...
Do you like where the industry might be going? Will we see less insanely expensive blockbuster titles and more indies?
