Damn, upgrade is coming in September. I was pretty much dead set on the HTC One, but I'd like to see what's using this chip. I can't wait too long since I really want to get rid of my iphone 4

The OPPO Find 7 will be using Snapdragon 800 (mid-Sept.).

A rumoured version of the Galaxy S4 with LTE-Advanced that will also be using this SoC.

There will be plenty of other devices, but I can't name them at this time.

How old?  I used to lurk around this board in 04 and occasionally post on my old gamefaqs account.

It was crap back then.  A slightly different kind of crap, but still crap.

To top it off, Intel's x86 Bay Trail will be launching at the end of this year in tablets (and in phones Q1 2014).

22nm process, quad cores (out of order), LTE, Ivy Bridge based GPU with close to full API support, etc.

Not that I know of, I also doubt the performance would be measured in TFLOPs. We're still talking about an ARM based SoC for mobile devices.

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft will be using Snapdragon 800 in their next Surface RT tablet.

There have also been rumours that the successor to the Nexus 7 will be using a Qualcomm chip, and not Tegra 4.

It would appear that NVIDIA might not get the support that Tegra 4 that they would have hoped for. Superior hardware is one of the primary advantages the Nvidia Shield offered over the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3DS, but with Snapdragon 800 devices entering the market in the coming months, a gamer might be better off skipping the Shield.

A gamer could always use a controller dock with a Snapdragon 800 device (like the one in the picture) to make up for the lack of physical controls.

There are also additional 3rd party controllers, so this is not limited to Samsung.

This surprises no one with a decent knowledge of the SoC market these past few years.

Wait... isn't this supposed to be in the Mobile Wars section? :P Anyway impressive! Mobile hardware has been developing at an incredible rate. Makes me think those Utopian futures where a device similar to a cellphone controls everything we may ever need to do isn't as far away as one may think. After all we already have Google Glass :P

At least this time around Qualcomm is getting the attention they deserve. There has been little to no attention to Tegra 4 (or 4i) from any of the big players, and we're already halfway through 2013.

Considering it's related to gaming and gaming devices such as NVIDIA's Shield, I figured it should be here.

Mobile Wars has never been about gaming, it just happens to be discussed from time to time.

Fair enough. Anyway mate, you seem a rather honest and knowledgeable user when it comes to phones. Which Android phone would you recommend that it's either out now, or will be by the end of the year? Looking to replace my little old Arc S :P

GFXBench 2.7 T-Rex HD C24Z16 - Offscreen (1080p):

  • Snapdragon 800 (Qualcomm MDP) - 1,456 Frames (26.0 Fps)
  • Apple A6 (iPhone 5) - 373 Frames (6.7 Fps)

In Apple's defence, I expect to see a large performance jump from the iPhone 5S.

Desmonic

Well that really depends on your budget, region, and network. Do you usually purchase a device off contract?

At the very least I would recommend waiting for the Google version of the HTC One or Galaxy S4 (I generally prefer vanilla Android). If you're not in a rush I would wait until the fall, a new Nexus device may very well be using Snapdragon 800 and have LTE support.

Until now I usually bought them off contract since the service I had with Vodafone was more than enough and allowed me that freedom. However since I bough the Arc S (a year and a half ago) I see myself using more and more apps (meaning I'm constantly running out of space on the Arc S), being more reliant on the Internet every time I use my phone, speaking with people from other services (a contract would be a huge help in this are since it would allow free sms and calls to other networks) thus I'm strongly considering a contract, which is more expensive but it does allow to buy a phone with some proper discount :P

My only real concern is battery life, which left me kinda of burnt on the Arc S. Other than that I can wait until the end of year, without any major issue.

So many people complaining cos this thread is about mobile devices and not the same old bullshit as always. Get over it people, the mobile market is part of SYSTEM wars too. Plus this involves more than just phones and brings project shield in too, if we're not allowed talk about that are we not allowed talk about PSVita and the 3DS too then?

Anyway this is interesting, seems Tegra 4 isn't the be all and end all of everything like Nvidia boasted

I think you can buy them for their European store to any country in Europe for 399 Euros (plus whatever shipping may be). Just the Oppo Fin 5 for now though.

Battery life is definitely a concern for most devices on the market. Motorola's Moto X phone will have a priority on battery life, so that might be a possibility.

Keeping somewhat on-topic:

The OPPO Find 7 is said to have a 4000mAh battery. This means one of two things.

1. The Snapdragon 800 is not as power friendly as Qualcomm would like us to believe.

2. The OPPO Find 7 will have amazing battery life.

For further reference, the phone variant of Qualcomm's MDP for Snapdragon 800 uses a 1,500mAh battery.

Kay. Well if it's ARM based SoC than we can still get the TFLOP number from ARM. Right? TFLOPS still does matter when it comes to getting power per watt performance. (that the kinda stuff I'd like to see)

Nothing official just yet, but apparently it will release mid September.

Here are the unconfirmed specifications:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor (unknown clock speed)
  • 5 inch 1920×1080 display [same display used in the Find 5]
  • 2GB LPDDR3 RAM
  • 13 megapixel rear camera
  • 8 megapixel front facing camera
  • NFC enabled
  • 4000mAh battery

The original Find 5 had a skin over 4.1.1, but recently OPPO's Facebook page posted this...

"One of our Ofans had this idea of a Google Edition of Find 5. Would you like to see it become a reality?  http://bit.ly/Find5Nexus

1003884_270832913057086_289614379_n.png
Note, the image is fan made.

A number of the comments are also asking for a Find 7 Google edition.

So with any luck, this will solve possible software concerns for the Find 7.
