Smash Bros Melee one of the best fighting games ever?

I love fighting games, weather it's the classics like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, or the newer ones like Dead Or Alive.

But over the past week or so, me and my best friends have been doing NOTHING but playing Super Smash Bros Melee.

I swear to god, this game is so incredibly fun. Here's why:

1) It's WAY more original then most fighting games. Instead of a simple health guage, it works on the principle that the only way to kill someone is by knocking them off of an edge. If you hit them and beat on them, it raises their percentage, which in turn makes them easier to hit off the edge. This system makes the gameplay far more deep and strategic.

2) Awesome character variety. Most major Nintendo characters are here, and they all have unique attacks and weapons. Fox has a laser for example, Link has his Bow, Bombs, and Hookshot, Mewtwo has psychic powers, etc.

3) Gameplay variety. Instead of the standard "kill your oponent" mode found in most fighting games, Smash Melee has tons of different modes. Gaining coins, 100 man survival, giant mode, tiny mode, tons and tons of different gameplay variations.

4) Easy to learn for people who are new, but still rewarding to practise a lot at and get pro.

5) Best. Party. Game. Ever.

Who here agrees that Smash Bros Melee is an amazing fighting game in almost every respect?

SSBM I'd say revoluntionized the fighting genre. No longer is this a battle between who can memorize the longest combination of buttons to execute an attack or a person who can tap the attack button the fastest, rather, its the person who masters the question of who to attack, when to attack, and how to attack. In a fighting game, if one person starts off with full hp against another person that's almost dead, the full hp person is almost guranteed to win even if he's a newb/noob. But in SSBM, 0% noob/newb vs 300% pro is a almost guranteed win for the skilled.edmend_duke

Hah, your lovely air combo in your sig can be owned anytime by even a moderate player who knows how to recover in the air which most traditional fighters CAN'T do. Thus unless you post us a video showing you play the actual game, all your points are rendered null and void about it being "kiddy and shallow"
