Should there be an option to uninstall / not install Single Player?

Imagine finishing some game and not ever wanting to return to its SP, but you want to play MP for a very long time. At the same time you're aware of your HDD space. Why not give you an option to free up several or dozen of GBs if you won't play the SP anymore?

An option to not install the SP would make sense for some of COD and BF players but might be too drastic...

What do you think?

Might be a good option. Can't say I'd ever use it though.

Might be a good option except the other way around. Option to only install the single player campaign for call of duty would be awesome.

I just want to play a game without having to install it at all. It should be like the 360, and that's having the option to install it if you like, but also having the option to just pop the disc in and just start playing.

As for you're idea, well no offense but I think it's a bad idea, because you would start to lose track of what you have downloaded and what you haven't. It will just be to confusing.

@i_p_daily: It could show you an overlay in your game collection - MP portion installed or SP portion installed

@Salt_The_Fries: Yeah, but it's just another screen you need to navigate, and from my experience with the XB1 there's way to many screens to go through now :(

Yeah, that would be nice. For games such as Battlefield like you said, since the SP is absolutely horribad in those games. It's like a CoD SP, but worse. And CoD SP already sucks.

So you want longer loading times, more disc spinning noise and more generated heat? Yeah, talking about bad ideas.

It would be a good idea if the multi-player was totally separated from the single player, obviously some things are shared between both. In most of these games you can't even play the multi-player unless you have patched it so why not just not include it on the disc at all. Would also be great if these companies offered the multi-player portion at a reduced price without the single player for those who just want to play with friends.

I'd rather have the option of not installing the MP element if it's broke like in MCC.

I think they should package and sell sp and mp separately from the start. That way everyone gets just what they want.

Take Halo 5 for instance. At this time I'm not interested in the mp, so if I could have gotten the sp for $20 I would have bought it. Since it wasn't available to me in that form I just rented the game and the devs got nothing from me.

That would be great. I don't play online multiplayer games and would love the option to uninstall that portion.

You actually can do that for Battlefield and Call of Duty on PC.

You guys clearly have never paid attention to Call of Duty on PC. This would save almost no space, the engine, textures, assets, music, dialog etc all has to be present, essentially the bulk of what takes up space still exists in the multiplayer.

Needless.

This reminds me of the old days, when we deleted the audio and fmv files from Diablo 2.

I'm pretty sure I have also seen that on Steam, Call of Duty is divided in SP and MP. Anyways in most games the assets take most of the size and those are still needed in MP, maybe a few will be only for SP but the bulk of it will still be in MP. The only games that would benefit are the ones that have all those HD/FHD video files for the SP.

I don't think that would be possible since I don't remember any game that doesn't use the same assets for both SP and MP. Though it depends on the game of course.

Call of Duty's and Battlefield's map files are massive and are separate for SP and MP.

Sure, I don't need the Halo campaigns installed to my X1 hard drive.

I just don't think it's a feature that enough people will take advantage of for them to really make it work that way? Because I would imagine given the shared assets, audio, and interfaces for these things, it would be a little difficult to do this type of stuff.

A few games allowed it on steam with the option to also remove dlc.

But yea, it's a good idea.

no, that'd make things too complex with an extra layer of micromanagement, just upgrade your HDD to a USB 3.0 external already

I mean, we'd have to be talking about one big game here anyways for me to want to bother

Well if you do that then you know companies will just move into the idea of just selling people the single player and multiplayer portion of a game as standalone portions. I mean for games they know will have a high amount of people playing just the MP they will release more copies of the that portion od the game and vise versa.
