Poll Should Nintendo Cancel the NX and Focus on Mobile? (19 votes)

Yes, Mobile is the future. 11%
No, they should cancel it and release Zelda on the Ps4. 21%
No, they can leverage Pokemon Go success to promote the NX! 68%

Pokemon GO has made billions after just a few weeks, and still has to launch in Asia! Is not doubt is a huge success. It seems is time for Nintendo to double down on mobile development and stop their useless hardware business.

I don't think that'd ever happen. But who knows look at SEGA and remember Atari. God I hope the Asian release doesn't **** up the servers. They still need to fix many bugs.

No for reasons too obvious...

Also... since this is a pro-"third party" post.

@Kruiz_Bathory: The difference is that Sega and Atari went bankrupt, while Nintendo is making billions on greener pastures.

@loco145: SEGA is still a publisher while Atari is completely gone. I meant to say that they could go either way. But I don't see Nintendo going out of business ever.

Until the NX is revealed anything is pure speculation, it can be some sort of kickass phone.

Probably not, now that they've announced it - but they shouldn't have in the first place.

@doubutsuteki: But it worked, it got Sony and Microsoft releasing consoles. Now Nintendo can gauge how VR and the new consoles do, then react.

No, it was because PC:s were miles ahead in terms of performance that they felt the need to. They were getting completely run over back in 2013 - and they're still being run over completely for reasons having to do not just with performance.

Right you are. I believe that Nintendo releasing the Wii U probably played some kind of a role in Sony's and Microsoft's decisions to release new consoles too, back when they released the original PS4 and Xbone, that is. I'm just saying it wasn't the main reason they did. PC was miles ahead: like 10x the performance in a gaming rig then over the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I reserve judgement until I know exactly what the NX is going to be. If it is a gimmick then yes, nuke it from orbit just to be sure.

Sega never went bankrupt.

Atari only very recently went bankrupt, long after their fall from grace.

They were both solvent companies that lost their way in the market. Exactly like what is happening to Nintendo today.

Both were in huge financial trouble and couldn't maintain a hardware business if they wanted to. Nintendo hasn't gotten there yet, and may not anytime soon.

No, just no...first of all, cancelling an investment of millions of dollars before they even release it, sounds like the worst possible idea ever.

Also, they can use their mobile games to boost their console games, imagine if there is a game that takes advantage of Pokémon Go? i'm not saying it will sell billions of consoles, but it will be a nice boost to their overall sales.

You are comparing 2 different points in the spiral. Sega and Atari were once hugely successful companies, just like Nintendo. They both lost their way thinking that they were invincible, just like Nintendo. They both ended up in trouble, just like Nintendo.

That point for Nintendo is 10-20 years away at the current rate, especially with mobile adding to the bank.

Hardly. If the NX comes out and does poorly - which it will compared to mobile with almost a 100% certainty - it's all over for their console business. They are actually screwed no matter what, which means they have to branch out like they're already doing.

@doubutsuteki: Thanks to mobile, NX might do even better. Thats a lot of new Nintendo fans catching a high. Might can get a few to test the waters. They can still keep their mobile gaming, NX wont interfere with it.

I think NX might do double what Wii U did. 30 million would be a nice goal.

If they can't go toe to toe with Android or iOS it's just gonna be a small drop in a vast ocean.

No, Sony needs someone pushing them. Nintendo consoles also offer up variety compared to what we get/got from Sony/MS.

Also, I couldn't care less for mobile gaming (yes I'm being selfish).

@doubutsuteki: Thats alright, Nintendo will just claim the warm waters. While maybe small, they are very comforting.
