Poll Should Nintendo become a full-time toy maker? (31 votes)

Yes. They have no future in the VG Industry. 35%
No. Amiibos were a mistake. 13%
Why not both? 48%
Mobile is the future! 3%

While the WiiU & 3DS are epic flops, Amiibos are a tremendous success. Is clear where Nintendo skills are, imo.

I don´t understand why a system that has sold 52 million units ( hardware ) and 222 million units ( software ) can be called a "flop". ( 3DS )

They should make games for the other platforms (ala Sega).

Anyone who thinks that Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, etc wouldn't sell like fucking hotcakes on PC, PS and XB is kidding themselves.

There just aren't many people who can justify spending $300 on a console to strictly play those games.

Maybe because it's Nintendo's least selling handheld to date, only achieving 1/3rd of what the DS sold?

Hell no. True, they had a terrible E3 conference (wtf was the Metroid shit), but Nintendo should never leave the console market. The more the number of competitors, the better it is for us customers. Otherwise we'll have to deal with market monopoly.

They should go back to making card games and running hotels.

@frank_castle: exactly this. but the games will be riddled with DLC, microtransactions, etc. the ugly side of the gaming industry.

They should go third-party.

That simple.

Everyone will be happy.

@SpinoRaptor24: With that reasoning the PS3 is a total flop, just because it didn't hit PS2 levels. The 3DS is also the best selling system of this gen. so far.

Well, if the games industry doesn't have a place for them (which their relevancy seems to imply, so I hardly see how the pro-"Nintendo should be third party" camp will in any way support them, so if Nintendo leaves the industry, LET THEM, you've all chosen a side), maybe.

I think they could easily do quite a bit more than just Amiibos for their IP's. Proper toys, puzzles, plushies and the like. In massive quantities I mean. Their main IP's clearly have the charm and awareness to succeed in that kind of market.

However that should not mean the video game business has to stop existing.

Better than a tablet.

And you wouldn't have to put up anymore with Nintendo's garbage consoles and online service

dual shock doesnt have gyro....why not?

spawn jumping might work on a dualshock though if they put the map on the screen. not as cool as the tablet though.

i have no problem with the online at all. so meh to psn...

it will be a nintendo made game still...so online would be the same.

DS is a all time greatest selling machine. I find it doubtful that another machine will ever reach those numbers again. Do people call PS3 a massive flop because it sold a fraction of what PS2 sold?

@bunchanumbers: besides, DS sold 154 m units in 7 years, the 3ds has been in the market less than 4 and has sold 52 m units, hardly a "flop".

Wasn't Nintendo a card game company before video games started to pick up?

They should combine with Sega and make the ultimate gaming machine. Anyway I don't why TC is crying about Nintendo making games. You don't like them....don't buy them.

Don't the quality of amiibo's pretty much suck?

It's just another freak thing that Nintendo has found to be able to cash in on their past successes (and hit a spot with collectors). But I wouldn't even call them proper toys or even decent statuettes.

Nintendo should definitely try and revive Beanie babies next tho... using Mario characters.
