GS review 8/10

IGN review 9.3/10

Looks like we have a really good game on our hands after all.

I like IGN´s review more as Dan Stapleton is a PC gamer, he reviews PC games on IGN, so his review is mostly PC-based, meanwhile the GS version is PS4´s one.

Additional reviews:

Gamesradar 9/10

Polygon 9.5

Game Informer 8.25

IGN reviews are so inflated. How they be worth anything anymore is beyond me.

6gb vram for max settings?

On the PC side Mordor also compares to the Batman games, in that it’s of good quality. There are even some enhanced graphics settings, including an ultra-high texture setting that requires a full 6GB of video memory. My only issue with it is some awkward menu controls, but most of those are customizable and those that aren’t aren’t too inconvenient to get used to.

Sadly, Lord Of The Rings is about hobbits gaining courage and going on whimsical adventures. This is Assasins Creed with monster men.

As someone with high moral values and a fan of series that promoted love and adventure, to see a cynical bastardization aimed at young people looking to inflict death for personal gratification, it is sadly a betrayal of everything MR Tolkien and his stories stood for.

In many ways, this is grave robbing.

So in this thread we're not supposed to discuss the details of said reviews just the scores?

So we should have another thread to discuss details of the reviews. Then another thread to discuss pc console differences at which point all Mordor discussion will be stickied so everything remotely related to Mordor will be in one thread anyway.

You're really not thinking this through bldg.

Unexpected review scores which is great. No wonder the devs allowed reviews prior to release date. All companies should allow reviews before release. 6GB VRAM, so even a GTX980 cannot run this title on Ultra...wow. Wish nVidia would rush the 8GB models out.

Got the game for 25 bucks on PC from Neogaf, and looking forward to it. Read the destructoid review where he argued it's more repetitive than it should be, and that's a bit worrying, but overall I'm interested, the nemesis system looks to deliver some interesting combat encounters, and I read the achievement list to the game which was neato. Plus for 25 bucks it's not a huge sting if it sucks.

Yeah...the IGN review is much better...he didn't ruin some of the story within the first minute of the review by blabbing out about how the Ranger becomes a white ghost like figure or anything.

Makes sense. Consolites are fragmented by competition. You would need 3 x as many consolites as pc gamers for a single console to have a chance.

When did he bring up sales in a score discussion? Sales and scores are directly related. Please take a moment to show where he got owned.

By compiling data released on Steam, Orland discovered that getting a 90+ Metacritic score almost guarantees some success, with games selling at least 50,000 copies when reaching that score.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/84203/higher-metacritic-scores-impact-game-sales-positively

  • Titles rated below 80 typically sell poorly
  • Average review score is around the 68-71 out of 100 range
  • These games rarely sell over 100,000 copies.
  • Using the 3-month average sales of titles in 2011, games in the 70-79 range sold only 62,000 units
  • 60-69 range sold roughly 57,000 units
  • 1,024 games were rated at 50 or below last year
  • These titles average 30,000 units in 3-month sales
  • 216 games rated at 90 or above in 2011
  • These titles saw average sales of 700,000 units
  • 80-89 rated games saw a 3-month average drops to 236,000 units

this is the problem with reviews, im not saying the game looks bad.

I'm rather more entertained that people who posted in this thread saying "WOW IM EXCITED NOW, IT GOT AN 8 HUR DUR DERPA DONG"

do you guys really let reviews be the forerunner in choosing whether or not you will play the game? sure, use it as a base, but at least think for yourself. shit is just embarassing

"almost guarantees some success" is nowhere close to "Sales and scores are directly related."

"Sales and scores are directly related" is not yet proven. I'm thinking it's going to need an r² to support a statement as bold as "Sales and scores are directly related."

would you like to retract your statement, and rephrase it to "getting a 90+ Metacritic score almost guarantees some success"?

even the other evidence, not close to that statement. at best you could say influence, "directly related" - that is wrong.

Don't play stupid, Cranberry. You were the only person to mention sales/popularity in the thread. You tried to discredit high scoring games by using sales:

Sorry but PC has more 8's and 9's than any one console, every year, for 3 gens now. Huggles fail.

A lot of those 8's and 9's are played by about 8 or 9 people.

Who cares if it's a good game

As someone with high moral values and a fan of series that promoted love and adventure, to see a cynical bastardization aimed at young people looking to inflict death for personal gratification, it is sadly a betrayal of everything MR Tolkien and his stories stood for.

In many ways, this is grave robbing.

Oh please just stfu and enjoy the game its not like they are trying to disgrace Tolkien, I mean god for bid someone comes a long as does something different and trys to tell a different story you should be happy they even made this game considering how bad the games have been lately.

Sales and scores are directly related.

^This will never be proven.

By compiling data released on Steam, Orland discovered that getting a 90+ Metacritic score almost guarantees some success, with games selling at least 50,000 copies when reaching that score.

So you agree that PC has more 8's and 9's than console? Do high scores also need high sales to "count"? Or did you change your mind on this.

And holy **** you killed this thread fast. Why do you do this, were you mad that this game was another multiplat better on PC?

http://www.shacknews.com/article/84203/higher-metacritic-scores-impact-game-sales-positively

"almost guarantees some success" is nowhere close to "Sales and scores are directly related."

"Sales and scores are directly related" is not yet proven. I'm thinking it's going to need an r² to support a statement as bold as "Sales and scores are directly related."

would you like to retract your statement, and rephrase it to "getting a 90+ Metacritic score almost guarantees some success"?

There will always be exceptions to the rule like Destiny for example.

Retract what? This is concrete data.

Some publishers actually give bonuses to the devs if they meet a specific metascore. Obsidian missed out on a $1 million bonus because they missed the goal of 85 by one point.

I thought the latest gpu's have 4gb.

Piss off? Why? What did I ever do to you?

No, you are wrong. There are GTX Titan, 6GB versions of GTX 780 and 780ti, meanwhile 6-8GB versions of 970 and 980 are planned to be released in a few months.

980 is the latest gpu and they're 4gb

I said latest GPUs, plural, learn to read.

970 and 980 are the latest gpu's.

No, they are not. Titan Black, TitanZ and gtx780ti are still considered as latest GPUs as well. And this is why I had told you to piss off, because you are fucking idiot that will try to derail the thread by insisting that 6GB GPUs don´t exist. **** off.
