Check the Fanboy at the door.

Released on the Xbox in 2002 Splinter Cell was indeed a graphics W****s wet dream. Taking advantage of the power of Microsoft's big black box, it introduced a lot of new tech. 1 thing that stood out above others is the Shadow technology that was used. AI was unforgiving and used visuals to there advantage as well.

Release on the PC(as well as all other major consoles) in 2002. The game shined just a bit brighter. So, for this Comparison, we take a look at the PC version(s)

-------------------------------------------------SPLINTER CELL----------------------------------

2002-2006

Splinter Cell(Release date:2003(PC)

O.o Sephiroth?

Sam visits his earlier jobs.

He's just looking for Nikoaldze's computer so he can check his thread.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Splinter Cell:Pandora Tomorrow(2004)

"I Don't need Shadows to know how to spy!"

"Man, I hope he doesn't see my googles"!

Sam:"What happend over there"?

Human Shield:"Jose farted infront of an open flame"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory(2005)

Must...get....to...the...gimp...party!!!

Pwned!

Sam Fisher does his impression of a bird.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Splinter Cell: Double Agent (2006)

Sam:"Hate to see her leave but love to watch her go"!

"Jose!!! Stop farting!"

Hostage: "Do I owe you money?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, there you go...Ubisoft is releasing Splinter Cell: Convictions soon but the date is no longer clear. As soon as the game releases I'll go back and update this thread.

The reason I didn't add screen shots of Convictons is because the game could have a major overhale in the time since we've lasts seen it. Here's hoping for a 2009 release.

Shanghai royally ****ed up the SC series. Leave the game with Ubi Montreal. They are the real talent.

I've only played Chaos Theory once and I rushed through that so fast I never really formed a decent opinion on it.

All I remember was the first SC was my first XBOX game, and me and my little bro played the crap out of it.

Splinter Cell is one of the best series of games that have ever graced a console. PERIOD. And for those who dont like the 1st one...Its about stealth more than any other SC game. Use your amo wisely and stay in the shadows

DA sucked compared to the first 2. Those were the best in the series in my opinion.

To all you people bashing Double Agent:

Please know that there are two 100% different versions of this game. The 360 and PC version, which you all know, sucked miserably. What you do not know and, in some cases, refuse to know is that there is that the version on the last gen systems is an INCREDIBLE game. They are 100% different. Different game design. Different level design. Different story. And all of you NEED to play the last gen version. Trust me. DA on 360 was lame, but the last gen version played JUST LIKE CHAOS THEORY.

To me the first two were mediocre but I loved Chaos Theory and I haven't played Double Agent yet so I can't give my opinion of it.

I got into splinter cell before MGS. I loved it, was one of my favorite series. Things went down hill though. Eventually MGS3 came out on ps2 and i heard good things and i got hooked. Got all the MGS games and never looked back at splitner cell. Ive played every game in the splinter cell series up to date, but its nothing compared to MGS.

The first couple were great, then they started coming up pretty rapidly and were basically more of the same.

the first 2 were pretty good games. However the 3rd one is fantastic in everyway. It had amazeing gameplay and graphics at its time. I still think it looks really good even by todays standards.

However its true that everything went downhill with the 4th one. I scratched my head and said "What happended?!?!' They took a big risk with this series and it did not pay off. Its no where near as good as the 3rd one or the first 2. Its a bad game and if the new sequel fails(most likely will by the way it looks) then Splinter Cell will be a dead series ultimately.

Chaos Theory = one of the best stealth action games ever! Both the sp and online are phenomenal.

Rest of the series is slightly better than dog poop.

Whats the real version? I played DA on the 360 and while it was much better than the first two, it couldnt hold a candle to CT.

Im not one of these guys that was pissed about day missions, or roaming the base either. That was cool. The game just had too many bugs, didnt offer up very good gameplay scenarios, and the online was gimped in an attempt to pull in the not so hardcore players.

Like I said, wrong version. Get the version for Xbox 1. 100% different. Different developer. different story. Different level design. Different game design. Everything you loved about Chaos Theory is alive and well in the Xbox 1 version.

The real version was the 360/PS3/PC versions.

Ever wondered why the next gen ones ended with a cliff hanger?

yes we know the x-box,PS2,Wii versions were the best in terms of story and gameplay. HOWEVER the true versions were ment to be the next generation ones. Which ultimately were pieces of #$%^

That's nice. ever wonder why the same development studio that developed the Xbox 1 version is developing SC5 AND how the plot of Xbox 1 version makes MORE sense with the SC5 plot? And how SC5 doesn't make ANY sense with the 360 version of DA?!

Im positive they will countinue the story of the next gen versions. If they don't then the cliff hanger at the end was a big mistake.

But guess who's developing the next Splinter Cell? That's right, the developers of Xbox 1 version. And guess which game makes mor sense witht the context of Conivction?  The last gen versions.

That whole game was a big mistake and I'm positive they will leave the beginning full of holes, allowing the player to interpret it how they want.

You sir have definitely convinced me to get the "real" version. I had no ******* idea that Montreal was behind the last gen SC4, nor did I know there was a significant difference besides the graphics. You would have thought they would put their best foot forward with the new consoles damn it!

So is the Xbox version compatible with the 360? And if not, was there a PS2 version thats I could play on the PS3?

I am glad I convinced you to buy it. That particular version is my favorite SC game and I am saddenned so many people have written it off. As to your question, I do not know. I assume it would, but there WAS a ps2 version.

Cool. Im not a total whore for graphics, hell I still play MGS2 all the time. Im gonna do some research and see if the Xbox version runs smoothly on the 360. If not I'll bite the bullet and get the PS2 version. I guess it wont be so bad with upscaling and smoothing on the PS3 if thats my only option. Thanks again man, I needed a good stealth fix and reassurance that the SC series is still headed in a good direction.

I know this message is LONG overdue, but I'm just sick and tired of people getting all pissy with the current-gen versions of DA. It was another Splinter Cell that thankfully was better than the first two (those weren't so good compared to the later ones). Since SCC is now out, I can say that Conviction is the best Splinter Cell, a bit away from the original formula, but ultimately better. Double Agent was fine on current-gen hardware and was fine on last-gen hardware.
