Idont need sega to tell me what i already know :D. Anyone saying close topics is subject to ownage. good day :).
sega already backtracked on this, essentially apologizingGunSmith1_basic
I´m pretty sure they still meant it though.

SEGA didn't mean it the Exec that said it did that is his opinion but it isn't SEGA's Opinion.[QUOTE="GunSmith1_basic"]sega already backtracked on this, essentially apologizingEddie-Vedder

it doesnt matter if the guy did. They're so scared of Nintendo they backtracked less than a day later. That guy is probably lucky to still have his job

if Sega is so scared that they feel the need to retract the statment, obviously this guy was talking out of his butt. Its funny that he thinks the PS3 is going to miraculously rebound, when right now it is by far the least selling system.
Scared of what? you think Nintendo is going to kick any company off the Wii for saying anything to them? how would that look for them?
SEGA is hardly scared of Nintendo. They have products coming out for their system, they have the Sonic & Mario joint project, it was just common sense to retract, that guy was way out of line in his statement.

I've seen this before. It's stupid but alot of companies seem to be s*** scared of offending nintendo or the Wii. Take that EA guy, and now this steinberg fella. They had some legitimate concerns and they expressed them. about ten minutes later they took them back
you realy have to look at the importance that Sega/EA are placing on the wii to see why. Sega are investing alot into some great looking exclusives for the Wii (Nights, Monkey ball etc) and they have even gone so far as to put sonic and mario in the same game. Hell if anyone can suepass nintendo on the Wii it's sega. They know this and they aren't going to let some random employee jeapordise that

If they're afraid of anything it's of damaging their own interests, and hardly of Nintendo. What's Nintendo gonna do? kick them off? blockade their products? Nintendo wouldn't do that if they wanted, nor they have any need of doing it. Anything they do or say isn't going to hurt Nintendo in the least, it's only going to hurt themselves. If they're afraid of anything it's of damaging their own interests, and hardly of Nintendo. Fair point. Nintendo isn't going to do jack. But in making disparaging remarks about the Wii Sega are basically biting the hand that feeds them by alienating Wii owners. you cant commit great titles to a system and then start criticing those titles before the games have even come out.

But the fact of the matter is that they're on very good terms, otherwise they wouldn't be doing joint projects. And there has been precedents of SoA doing the same thing. Which was one of the reasons why Working Designs stopped being a SEGA exclusive publisher, because of SoA aggressive attitude towards them, while Victor Ireland president of WD stated that they were in excellent terms with SoJ, and that SoA was the problem.

It's not even as if these comments risk alienating gamers. Pretty much the whole deal is that Sega's strategy is to support every platform to one extent or another. Even if Nintendo wasn't tearing everything up with Wii and DS it is counterproductive for Sega to make negative statements about them or any other platform holder. As things stand in the market, maintaining a good working relationship with Nintendo is vital to Sega's success in this generation.
I'm sure Steinberg's bosses pretty much explained to him that when the world's #1 game publisher is lending you the world's #1 game mascot for what will probably be your most successful game of the year, you watch what you say about them in public because you want to keep the good feeling going.
Mr Middle Management at Sega of America Backtracked because Sega of America has always been the bastard child of Sega of Japan. The guy opened his mouth and top level management probably crapped their pants and got on the phone very fast from Japan saying what the hell wa this guy thinking.
As far as what would Nintendo do I think you people forgot just how ruthless Nintendo can be to people who wrong them.
Once Square stopped F on Nintendo and they released thier big epic moovie that bombed they came running back to nintendo for a peice of the pie to make FF games on the handhelds. Yamauchi in very few words told Square to stick it. Sony tried to gain control of Nintendos characters via the cd addon deal for the SNES. Nintendo let Sony make an ass of themselves announcing a partnership that was voided hours before.
Nintendo to an extent is feared as a Mafia like figure in the industry. Gameboy creator makes the virtual boy it bombs next thing you know he is in a car bing driven by a Nintendo Employee when cars slam into the back portion of the car from Both sides crushing and killing the man. Amazingly the driver was unharmed. Most jokingly say the very idea that 2 cars would hit the right area at the back at the exact same time indicates Yamauchi wanted him dead

gamers don't want online
gamers don't want RPGs
people who play RPG are depressed people who have no friends and play in the dark
The guy who always said he knew what gamers wanted, yet boasted he never played a game in his life.
Nintendo was on a downward spiral with Yamauchi, if they hadn't the GB to fall back, they could've ended not far from SEGA.
That their success resurged drastically after they had to retire him was no coinsidence.
Nintendo isn't like that anymore.
Indeed they did. I think that is the difficulty most of the people on SW are having trouble accepting.

Outwardly they may not be as ruthless but if you dont think Iwata and company can be your mistaken. Iwata was handpicked by Yamauchi to be his successor cause he knew he could keep the ship going.
Many of Yamauhis weird comments came from the Fact of the Generation he was from and that he was never a video game designer etc. If anything his comments on sad people playing in the dark etc was very much a normal impression people had of gamers.
Every corporation is ruthless when it has to be. Someone ays someething to screw nintendo over that is in a partnership with Nintendo your guaranteed to know nintendo will react somehoweven if you dont see it. It might be a simple phone call or Reggie being sent in to take names and kick a few asses
I don't doubt companies are ruthless, yet now they also have an image to maintain, and they can't afford to alienate their supporters with their totalitarian views, especially since the market is only going to get more competitive.may not be as ruthless but if you dont think Iwata and company can be your mistaken. You think Squaresoft gave a damn about what Nintendo babbled about when they were making a killing with the PS and PS2? they can't afford to do their old ways anymore, not in nowadays market.
Quote from PSU (http://www.psu.com/node/11686)
He's looking past the immediate sales, citing technological barriers. "The Wii will start to look really dated in a couple years when developers get more value from the 360 and learn more and more about the PlayStation 3," Steinberg said.
In a few years time Nintendo will be talking about their next console so it's not a great problem.
Also Steinberg is forgetting that companies like Sega will be able to get more out of the Wii in few years time as well.
More power does not always mean better gameplay, have a look atSonic and the Secret Rings for the Wiiand Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
You don't make a very good point. Both of those games sucked.

I'm sure SEGA is stupid enough to make this call. After all, they thought that Dreamcast, Saturn, and GameGear would be successes. I wouldn't put it past SEGA to say the Wii would not win and the PS3 would come out on top.
