Hopefully I'm just overreacting because I love FIFA on PC. Anyway:

EA Sports FIFA World is now in open beta worldwide for Windows PC, EA announced today.

According to producer Alex Grimbley, the four closed beta sessions and previous limited open beta for FIFA World had 1.5 million registered players, through which EA collected feedback to polish the final version. Players will also be able to share their accomplishments and commentary on game content through the online Social Hub, as well as access a real-time Transfer Market to manage in-game items.

"By bringing the FIFA franchise to the PC platform as a free-to-play game, we give millions of new fans their chance to experience the authentic FIFA experience, with award-winning gameplay and licensed leagues,” Grimbley said in a press statement. “At the same time, existing FIFA fans now have a new way to enjoy the game they already love, with fresh daily content and the ability to play on almost any PC.”

How I see it:

They'll introduce shitload of micro transactions, and just keep updating this crap with new players and transfers, and ultimately pull the plug on yearly FIFA iterations on the PC.

More here.

What do you think?

It doesn´t seem like that to me at all.

It´s the exact same deal as the F2P Need for Speed World on the PC,but all the other NSF games keep getting released on the PC as always.

EA don't give two shits about the consumer with any version of this game. Their servers have been a pile of crap for years, the web app has been broken and buggy for the last two iterations of Ultimate Team and was so bad they recently had to cease trading on it, there's lag in game and there's constant maintenance.

Have a look at their twitter page, it's impossible to get through the replies they have to make in a single day from people having problems.

For a game that must be pulling in stupid amount of money it's incredible they've then got the cheek to pull something like this and then throw a world cup game out at full price.

Fifa Ultimate Team (which is probably the best part of Fifa) is basically just one step away from being a free to play game anyway so this isn't that crazy a move.

Sports games aren't a good platform for PC anyways.

To me it just looks like the updated successor of FIFA Online. But this time it will probably have a more robust micro transactions system so that it won't sink worldwide like the original.

Nah, there is still money in the main Fifa franchise on PC.

And if there is only some money in it, EA will go for it.

Wish EA would put more effort into the PC (and vita) versions of FIFA though.

my friend i must agree with you on this one. although it's possible to play every genre on every system i have to say - i think sports games' home is on the video game console masheen. like how real time strategy does best on PC. and kinect(lol) does best in graveyards.

also on topic, if there's money to be made selling fifa on PC - i doubt they'll stop releasing FIFA's. they invested all that money into their ignite engine, frostbyte etc so the EA studios have good dev tools in house. it seemed like EA wants their studios to be able to deploy to multiple platforms quickly.

Kinect is great at parties, but it's even better at graveyards.

It can really bring the mood around.

I thought you were supposed to plug it in your Xbone at the graveyard and have fun with it.

Now I understand why people are looking at me that way...

Yeah, I agree, but it would still suck. My PC is always connected to my TV, so whenever I want to play it, I just extend the screen to TV and use 360 controller to play the game.

They discontinued NBA, NHL and NFL on the PC. It would suck if they do the same with FIFA.

@R4gn4r0k: berry it so deep in the ground even king arthur couldn't pull it out.

and yes. if you were trying to have fun with an xbone ... i guess some odd looks could be expected.

actually. i might check out this fifa game a bit. i've ignored sports games for decades. my dad's 60th is this year and i was thinking about building him a gaming pc (mostly for driving sims). if Birmingham City FC (one below premier league) is in this FIFA game, he will automatically think it's awesome. a quick check reveals they're in the game.

sweet. that's my dad's burfdee sorted.

You are linking Fifa 14. But I doubt it won't be in Fifa World.

I would check this out if it has 2-4 player local play. If it's online only than I'm not going to bother. Fifa to me is still a very locally played game.

My dad looked interested when I showed him Fifa on Vita, but I doubt he'll ever get into games.

@R4gn4r0k: oh yeah sorry i was ambiguous. i linked fifa 14 deliberately but i was ambiguous in my text - sorry dude.

yeah, my dad's played games before, especially the driving games.

he's enthusiastic about anything to do with birmingham city FC, so the game could be a winner. his birthday's a few months away yet. so plenty of time to think about it.

@CrownKingArthur: Ah so you would give him Fifa 14 ? Or rather, you mean that that is an option

Gotcha, I thought you were talking about Fifa World :p

PC gaming sucks ass and is boring. All the shitty 3rd rate crap come to PC, and all the top tier best games come to consoles. Hermits are pathetic because they think their shitty rigs are so powerful when they have no games to play on them.

LOLzzz

yeah you got it man. it would be another thing to add. anyway this is how I imagine it goes down (like a good woman):

"Hey dad. Here's a PC. Driving. Football. Porn"

"Thanks Son!"

Doesn't really fit your username I would say.
