This might be better suited for PC & Mac discussion. Also, you might wanna flesh out your OP.

In other news, what PC are you currently rockin'?

Absofuckinlutely. I got my 7870 for $180 (only actually cost me $30 after selling my old GPU and getting the mail-in-rebate), and the 7950 performs considerably above mine (which does an amazing job in most games). The great thing about the 7950 is, it's incredibly easy to overclock it to 7970 levels. Overclocking a GPU is considerably easier than overclocking a CPU (provided you don't mess with VRAM frequencies too much).

You should have hit the Lounge. We were hardcore PC talking earlier. All because I expressed interest in making a new PC.

No. Too weak at this point. Unless you like your games at 30fps, I mean, next gen games.

At least go with a 7970 3GB GHZ Edition (180USD on ebay, used, but still much better choice)

well, i have a phenom II x4 920 laying around here and I would just want to game a bit till the VR hits the market and till fifa 15 releases.

I will build a VR pc then, I don't want to build it now because I don't really now what I will need, I would do some light gaming as of now. Like wolfenstein for instance. IF fifa 15 is released I won't be gaming on my pc anyway.

I can buy a xfx hd 6870 second handed, i'm thinking about buying that one, the guy asks 70$

Noooooo. It's much worse. 6870 is even worse than my 4-year old 5870 (by a noticeable margin worse). In this case, go with 7950.

@jhonMalcovich: stay away from used cards unless you buying evga because of the air tight warranty. He's better of with the new 7950 imo. They are easy over clock and every single one can hit 1100mhz no problem. Silicon lottery determines how much higher you can go after that. I've been burned by used cards I couldn't warranty before so unless it's evga I don't want it used.

yeah i know but it's a 100$ cheaper, and I think the 6870 will do anything on 720p
