Rules update: 500 post count repealed, please read.

^ This is the one I welcome the most to these threads. It was getting a little wacky with last month's NPD thread.

This. It was instated like 2 or 3 years ago for the sole purpose of thwarting one user who kept spamming with sock accounts. ForzaGearsHalo, aka ProjectNatalFan I think is his original name.

Also, Brofists was another troll who did the same.

Yep., but it depends on how they are used. If someone creates a thread and people don;t like the topic being discussed in the thread or the person who created it and they try to disrupt the thread with gifs like those spiderman gifs they will be modded for that. The gifs have to enhance the thread in order to be used. and not to make disruptive posts(to derail a thread).

Glad that rule was removed. I've been on this site according to gamespot since 2008 but I know I haven't been that active till now. Kinda felt weird that as a person who has an ID for about 7 years could not create a thread because he hasn't made 500 posts. Just sayin'.

Also question, for things that aren't actual forms of gaming, like mobile games, can say lolmobilegames

I thought a post limit was a decent idea. However, it should have been implemented to prevent users from even creating a thread that early, not enforced after the damage has already been done.

When this board was more active there were many users who gave a shit, so naturally there were trolls and spammers who tried to suppress and disrupt factual topics and arguments. Now most users don't give a shit, or are just old grizzled veterans so trolls and spammers don't plague the board as much.

I miss all the crazy fanboys. Maybe they're too busy on twitter and instagram to come break our rules?

Wow of course this dumb stupid rule gets abolished just after I had made it past the 500 post count mark......

I didn't mind the rule itself but 500 just seemed like a very high number. Why not 100 or even 50 posts.

The rules change so much here. I remember when it was total free for all, only "clean" insults, then no insults, then it seemed to sway back and forth for a while.

Basically, can I call someone a c*nt if I want? Because there's been a few stretches of time when I could, and a few when I couldn't, and it gets hard to keep track and remember. Thanks!

On serious note,,, great decision. A lot of great topics were locked because users didn't have 500 posts.

Right. There's no reason why a troll-spammer with 501 posts can make topics but a quality poster with 300 posts cant.

I still feel like mods need to be more diligent with removing those trash threads though. So many people post troll bs threads then never show their faces again. Those specific users should have thread posting privileges revoked.

This place should be modeled more after /v and less after Christian Mingle.

Glad to see the 500 post rule gone. I thought it was kind of dumb. I have been a browsing member for years and dont post much but this limited active participation by people like me.

I agree with this. Just because a person can't post a topic doesn't mean a person can't comment on a topic that has already been created. I like the 500 post rule a lot better since it does help keep alts out. Now you'll have to worry about if a person is agreeing with his or herself from multiple alts, IMHO.

For now.... don't you think the reason it has lessened was because of the post count rule. Repealing this rule is not a good thing imo. They will be back. Ugggh.
