Respawn Confirms Titanfall 2 Will Not Be Exclusive

Respawn just completed its season pass for Titanfall, so overall how are things going?

I think they're going well, the game was obviously pretty successful. I think we announced 7 million [entitlements – or unique players] a month ago or so or whatever...We're obviously still selling so we are closing in on 8 million now. So for us, as an early launch on a limited platform we're pretty happy. I think the DLC has been pretty successful especially the last one - Frontier's Edge - has been very well received. I don't know what are you hearing about it? I would be interested to hear your take.

One of the things you said that I thought was very powerful at the time we did our cover story was that focusing on one console with the exclusive Microsoft deal really helped you guys get the game done and make it exciting and fun. On the other hand, there was a lot of discussion and confusion about Titanfall being exclusive and for how long, so while the first game is exclusive to the Microsoft platform, Titanfall as a brand is exclusive to Respawn. So as you move forward are you open to different deals as it goes forward? Do you think there's a multiplatform, multi-console version of Titanfall in the future?

I've already said future projects will not necessarily be exclusive.

If it will not necessarily be exclusive, does your deal with Microsoft and EA cover just the first Titanfall title or is it multiple titles?

this has been a VERY traumatic week for blackace and lems id imagine. first they get the news x1 flopped like a fish out of water in china, then the devastating news that ps4 demand in europe outstrips the supply and now this. lord have mercy

I gotta feel sorry for those that bought the Season Pass. It doesn't look like anything worth while came out for Titanfall.

Eh. It was a fun game, from what I gather, right? People who bought the Season Pass thought it was fun enough to get more of it.

Its for the best, its a damn good game. This should help it grow.

i would buy the dlc BUT the population is dead. literally 40-50 people are in the dlc playlists. everyone just plays standard attrition mode all the time other playlists are dead

I'd be excited, but the first one really isn't that great...

the deluxe edition was on sale for $13 last week and i didn't even bother picking it up.

i just don't trust an online only title to work anymore and without a campaign there is not even anything to do while you wait for patches.

in the same vein i really want to buy evolve but waiting 2 months for it to work just does not sound like fun.

Anyway, i'll be interested if they add more content. TF has good gameplay, atleast from a modern AAA fps level. More game modes, more Titan and Pilot customization, and either a single player campaign or a bot option (lol, not gonna happen), and itcould be awesome

Too bad I got duped into buying the first game and now I have little interest in the sequels. A shame too, I really was rooting for Respawn. It was fun for a few weeks and now it collects dust. What a dud. Fun idea but way too barebones.

They will have to work HARD to sell me which includes putting in a fabulous Single Player campaign.

As far as this news piece, it's all the same information we had months ago. It's a pointless article honestly. We already knew the deal covered one game, Respawn already confirmed that.

Was never exclusive to begin with, but I guess they mean for Ps4.

Picked it up for €11 with all the DLC. It's fun.

Respawn wants some of those customers from current gen 8 console leader SONY and the PS4, not to mention access to the 80+ million PS3 users.

Careful bro, 8 million players =/= 8 million sales. IMO they're at about 5-6 million. They did 3+m extremely soon after launch (if I'm not mistaken), another 2-3 million during the rest of the year seem fairly plausible.

I do wish companies would just refer to actual numbers instead of "unique players" and stuff like that.

I enjoyed the first one, was a steal for 15 bucks. I'd be willing to buy the next one full price if it actually came with a good campaign mode. Just can't justify buying a title at $60 when it is online only.

Very true. A sale is a sale though. Buy it pitch it in the garbage. They were selling it at below 20 bucks at times.

The game still has a large community on XBL. I believe they met their goals with a new IP.

Bringing it Multi-plat will help the cause. They do need to add a campaign this time to boost sales. A lot of people don't like online ass whooping's. Getting T-bagged by a giant mech is rough. The damage it can do to some people is catastrophic.

Well, from what I've read before Respawn wasn't even planning on making Titanfall exclusive until EA pulled the rug out from underneath them on it. And sure the deal only covered the first game but I wouldn't be surprised if MS negotiated another exclusivity deal on a sequel.

I thought they confirmed this when the game first came out

x1 population for attrition is good but the rest is horrible. no point buying the dlc maps at all

I'm happy about this. It sucked that 10+ million people missed out on one of the best games of the year due to a personal preference and then a small % had to resort to trashing it because they couldn't play it. I'm sure they will be 1st in line to buy it ;)

It doesn't matter though,Cows played the first one on PC.Im sure they will be getting the next one on PC too,nobody missed out on Titanfall.

Not too impressed with Titanfall, but if they add some singe player and some depth to the gunplay I'd be interested in a sequel.

Respawn stated that any future Titanfall game will be multiplat and they told us this like while Titanfall was still in development so this is hardly shocking news. That said, I'm still having fun with Titanfall so I'm up for Titanfall 2.

Cool they came out of their development hell, got microsoft space bucks to finish the game. And now they can move on to making Titanfall 2 into a beast, I want them to go into fucking crazy town. Admittedly part of the joy in the gameplay is how not bullshit they went with perks/weapon unlocks (ala MW2 for instance), but at the same time it's fucking mechs. I want crazy mechs. I want a spider mech. I want a mech that jumps around. I want space mechs. I want shoot outs on the moon. I want a map that is two giant fucking mechs like this is Xenoblade or something.

Anyway Titanfall was a good time, and still is a good time on PC, so I'm glad they were successful with it first year in. Looking forward to 2.

Yo, this is a year with a brand new Dark Souls, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Pokemon, Call of Duty, Halo (lol), a multitude of sports games...

Not only did Titanfall have a lot of competition, I'd argue it lost to its competition.

My mistake. I thought EA nabbed them after they left Activision. You're still having meltdowns though. lol!!

stack it up against almost any game that came out in like the last 3-4 years and its still up there. I haven't had that much fun with a multiplayer game since BF3.
