I think I played The Suffering a long time ago... It was meh. Also, I only played a little bit of Manhunt more recently. It really didn't age well.

I love the Manhunt games, especially the first. They're both great stealth games, something they never really get credit for.

What an incredibly naive thing to say. Seriously, theres real genius, the story itself is a metaplot on video game violence itself. Read about it

I finished the first Manhunt, enjoyed it but the game is not without its flaws, in fact both of these games have a lot of flaws. I got pretty far in The Suffering, but didn't finish it because of some design elements that I didn't find particularly appealing.

I'll never forget the first time Pigsy came charging torwards me with his chainsaw. Nearly **** myself. The first Manhunt was indeed awesome. I was never a big Suffering fan, though they did have great atmospheric qualities.

The Suffering and its sequal are probably one of my all time favorite games ever. Trust me when I say your efforts will be in vain. I tell people about The Suffering all the time and no one ever shows much of an interest. They're really the most underrated games of last gen. Period.

I always thought the idea in Manhunt Two of having the enemies having weird masks on was really cool. Haven't played it though. I would like to play all the games mentioned some day.

Loved the first Manhunt and The Suffering. The Suffering sequel wasn't bad, but the first game sticks with me, the prison setting for it was great.

Manhunt: what can I say? It was dark, gritty and thick with atmosphere. Really enjoyed it except some of the executions got boring after awhile, especially when you had the same weapon for a long time like the machete.

Manhunt is a excellent horror game, done in true "last house on the left" 80's exploitaion style. Ahead of it's time.

Don't know what The Suffering is so can't comment. However I hope they never make another Manhunt game, there was really no objecitve or point to it. It was just like they made it just for shock value and violence for the sake of violence, it was practically sadistic. The game did have a few scary parts though that were handled well, but the overall theme and point of the game was trash IMO.

To be clear I don't mind violence in games or movies if it suites what the game is trying to portray or the setting, I just don't like violence for the sake of violence.

No, it was a low-brow excuse to cash in on sadistic violence. Nevemind the fact that you can;t be ahead of your time when you're ripping off something that's already been done before in another medium.

Keep in mind I've seen pretty much every Italian horror movie ever made from the 60s to the 90s. Fulci, Deodatto, Lenzi, Argento, Bava... watching that stuff is one thing. Putting yourself in the role of the one doing that kind of torturing-reprehensible, because in the movies those guys are clearly the bad guys.

Different things are processing in your brain when you are doing this, as opposed to just gunning down Helghast.

BTW, if you want to play an excellent horror game play Silent Hill or Kuon. If you get a pleasurable neural-stimulus response from simulating torturing people, then play Manhunt.

Silent hill is probably scarier. Just love the brain smashing, coma-inducing ultraviolence of manhunt. Makes a clockwork orange seem like tea at grandmas house, lol. Kubrick would be proud.

I beat the suffering 1&2 twice. I loved both games. Each monster had a background and it was just fun. However the game did have some technal problems it still was a blast. I also really like manhunt 1&2 but they butchered part 2. Dam censoring.

It was a ultra violent game but I wouldint say it was doing it for the sake of doing it. If that was the case thats all the dev would care about and they would deliver a lackluster product with horrible gameplay and crap atmosphere however thats not the case of manhunt. There is also a solid plot to the game.

I wouldn't say that Manhunt has been forgotten in the first place. It's still alive and well over at Rockstargames.

Just have to take one look at Max Payne 3. It looks identical, except without the circular saws...

Manhunt 1 was pretty great, it was kind of scary at times and was just a really well made stealth game that managed to be unique in a crowded market (though it is Rockstar, so I wouldn't expect less). Its lame seeing people not wanting to touch it because they think its just some hostel type torture porn, but if they want to let Jack Thompson's ramblings keep them from a great game that is not my problem.

The second was pretty terrible though, unlike the first it didn't really make sense plotwise for the violence to be so... violent, and some of the executions were just weirdly long and loud and torturous and excessive, which really takes me out of the game when a guy (who has supposedly never killed before) is taking an hour to stab a guy in just the right places that he lives, while his other enemies just sit and watch. Manhunt at least kept the kills swift and efficient for the most part.

I played some of The Suffering, didn't really like it that much. I didn't find it scary and the mechanics seem wildly dated by the time I played it.

first of all chill. Second of all killing people in manhunt is just like killing any other person in the game. The people you kill arent nice people they are psycos who want to kill you. Its about being in a crap situation and doing what you gatta do to survive the situation. So please dont try to act all high and mighty about manhunt cause it aint going to work.

I've never played any of them, but the way people are talking about Manhunt in this thread I would throw up the cash for an HD remake to check it out. I didn't get a PS2 'till close to the end of that gen so it was kind of off my radar at the time. Also at the time I wasn't too into stealth games (still not, but the game sounds interesting enough to try out). I actually think I may have watched one of my friends play through parts of The Suffering in high school but can't really remember for sure......

Both great titles (although Ties That Bind was a little too arcadey for my taste) and I wouldn't mind seeing a current gen sequel to those games (an HD remake wouldn't really appeal to me...these aren't the kinds of games I can see myself playing again just for the sake of better graphics :P).

I remember Brian Cox did a great job doing the voice of the main villain in Manhunt, I really liked the first game but the second one kind of blew, and it wasn't because of the censorship, it just wasn't as good as the previous one by a longshot. Never got to far into The Suffering, didn't really think much of it, was an okay rental at the time. Darkwatch was my favorite of the horror shooters for the original Xbox.

I thought the first Manhunt and the The Suffering were great. Could not get into the sequels for either, though. Just did not do it for me like the first ones did.

I think Manhunt 3 would be pretty amazing if they went back to the roots of the series. Keep the social commentary on violence alive and the queasy "running man" story and I'll love a sequel, just don't make it a dumb conspiracy story with violence that doesn't make sense in the context (Manhunt 2) and I'll be happy.

Seriously, Manhunt 2 didn't even have a point to the violence. You didn't get scored, it wasn't in the story, and you weren't being forced into violence, it just... existed, and the stupid disorientation effect wasn't nearly as cool as the camera effect.

Manhunt was a great game. But I think if they were to make a game like that today, they would receive even more flak than when they did with Manhunt 2. The suffering was great, but the game is really, really dated.
