Haven't played ODST or Wars.

Multiplayer

  1. Halo 3 (forge mode, hell yea, lots of other modes too)
  2. Halo 2 (classic)
  3. Halo 4
  4. Halo Reach (COD wannabe)
  5. Halo 1

Campaign

  1. Halo 1 (classic)
  2. Halo Reach (it was fun)
  3. Halo 4
  4. Halo 3 (good but pacing is wobbly)
  5. Halo 2 (nostalgia aside, it was mostly monotonous)

Impact:

  1. Halo 1 (obviously)
  2. Halo 2
  3. Halo 3
  4. Halo Reach (did really well for its time, tbh)
  5. Halo 4 (does anyone honestly remember this game?)

Multiplayer

  1. Halo 2
  2. Halo 3
  3. Halo
  4. Halo 4

Campaign

  1. Halo
  2. Halo 2
  3. Halo 3
  4. Halo 4

Impact:

  1. Halo
  2. Halo 3
  3. Halo 2
  4. Halo 4

I bought the original xbox just for halo way back in the day but then i lost interest in the franchise didn't even get halo 2.

I bought MCC for xboner and i thought halo 2 anniversary RIGHT next to halo 1 i was amazed how good it is, music was epic i like better than 3 and 4 by a lot, 4 was definitely the worst one i think but I thought 3 was mad weak compared to 1/2.

i think ODST is quite different and fun haven't finished it but it feels like a classic bungie game I never played reach yet.

I was always a bungie fan since marathon/oni and big pc/mac gamer they are a dev that could sell entire systems back in the day

for multiplayer tried most of them out on MCC halo 2 feels the best by far, I had already played halo 1 multiplayer on 360 with anniversary and it was just fine, halo 2 was very damn good though, I like 3 multiplayer better than 1 but i think 4's is the worst.

As a previous competitive Halo/Halo 2 player on the PC I agree with most of your list with the exception of the multiplayer list. I have got to say that the original Halo was just a raw competitive experience from top to bottom, it knew exactly what it was, it wasn't bloated and fluffed up from trying to impress people due to the success of the franchise. I believe that the multiplayer actually degraded and got worse as the franchise numerically progressed regardless of mode/feature additions, each one worse than the last much like how Counter-Strike has regressed with each game mechanically. In terms of Halo 2, like you I do not think it was that great of a game from a campaign perspective, I have to say that it was extremely overrated, not bad but also not the best that the franchise has seen.

Here is my list.

Multiplayer

  1. Halo
  2. Halo 2
  3. Halo 3
  4. Halo Reach
  5. Halo 4

Campaign

  1. Halo
  2. Halo 3

Impact:

  1. Halo
  2. Halo 2
  3. Halo 3

So I didn't play Halo Reach but here is my list. I will say all the hate for Halo 4 I believe comes from the fact Bungie didn't make it but I felt the game was good. The Master Chief and Cortana realationship was wonderfully and masterfully fleshed out in that game.

Multiplayer

1) Halo 2

2) Halo 4

3) Halo

4) Halo 3

Campaign

1) Halo 4

2) Halo 2

3) Halo 3

4) Halo

Impact

1) Halo

2) Halo 4

3) Halo 3

4) Halo 2

I never looked at it from a competitive perspective. More of a fun, value, variety, diversity, innovation perspective. 2 was a big step up for the franchise, multiplayer-wise, for console gamers, even if I agree it doesn't age well., 3, of course, like I said, had Forge and a lot of other great modes.

Since you quoted my list, I put Reach on the bottom instead of 1. Having one-shot assault rifles as the primary weapon was a deal-breaker for me. Halo 4 to me was a return to form, but I can definitely consider putting it beneath 1 in multiplayer. For its time, 1's co-op was really good and the PC version's multiplayer is solid.

Kind of like the original TF2, it's simple but just has a brilliant design and sense of balance to it. The other Halo games did try to expand on it, which is a good thing (better than rehashing) but I don't think any game can take away what the original did.

Thanks for your great comment.

I don't hate Reach. It gave the X360 a good jolt of energy near the middle of its life span. I didn't care for the multiplayer, but the campaign was solid fun.

in terms of single player i'd say halo ce, halo 3, odst, reach, halo 2, then halo 4.

on the mp side of things halo ce, halo 4, halo 2, then halo 3. i haven't played a ton of halo 4 mp, far less than the others but i really like what 343 did with the gameplay. if halo 2 and 3 played that well i would have put them ahead of it. halo ce trumps all though imo, i absolutely love the simplicity of it.

Multiplayer

3. Halo 4

4. Halo Reach (COD wannabe)

Halo Reach had:

-preset loadouts. Which were always chosen by the game based on map/playlist

-sprint armor ability

Halo 4 had:

-custom loadouts

-pseudokillstreaks AKA ordnance drops

-universal sprint

-weapon skins/camos

-rank-based weapon & equipment unlocks

-perks AKA 'Tactical Packages.' The infinite sprint ability, Mobility, is just a carbon copy of the Marathon perk from MW2.

But yeah. Reach was a total CoD wannabe.

Halo 4 was way more COD wannabe than Reach. I don't know what he was thinking.

  1. Halo 4 (best by far, MC felt heavy as he should oppose to being floaty like all of the previous, best game play)
  2. Halo 3 (good)
  3. Halo CE (decent)
  4. Halo 2 (dark as ****, can't see swat during campaign)
  5. Halo Reach (boring as hell)

^As a whole. I don't play them extensively enough to break them to pieces.
