After owning Battlefield 3 on both consoles... never ever will i buy a multiplayer multiplat on PSN again, input lag, voip problems, drop outs, garbage service, garbage support from developers, garbage user base of mute noobs... its a mess, and not only on BF3. Features is not the biggest problem, stability is. BF3 was one of the best MP of the whole gen, destroyed by Sonys lack of experience with online... i dont see how they can catch up next gen, they are too far behind so the obvious choice for mp multiplats is the bone.

Wow. That's a powerful post. Quite an interesting angle.

In my experience, XB Live has been a lot slicker than PSN so yeah, good rationale.

The more I look into it, the more it seems like I might ditch the PS4 in favor of a SteamBox.

It will take me about a year or two to know which one is the better multiplat machine.

What I've learned from this thread:

Lems still believe MS has the magic internets that make P2P faster.

Lems no longer care about "superior" multiplats.

Lems believe a cluttered ad-filled interface is good

Lems no longer care about exclusives

.....and although they defend Kinect and the price point that comes with it they consistently forget to mention it as a reason to get the system in threads like this *wink*

Anyone buying the PS4 on launch day ...

Not because of it's exclusive titles, but because one considers it the go-to multiplat machine for the whole gen?

Makes sense. The (console) specs are there. 3rd party support will be continuous.

I'm buying both systems for exclusives right now. I'll find out which one to get for multiplat next year. We'll see what the comparisons are like.

No, Xbox One is going to be my console for multiplats and I will get PS4 in a few years just for the Sony exclusives. Xbox One's controller and better online service are more important to me than PS4's slightly better graphics.

@starwolf474: Who's to guarantee XBL is better than PSN this gen. MS doesn't have a monopoly on quality online service.

PC is vastly superior for multiplats.

However, from past experience PS tends to have more interesting exclusives. It was the case for PS, PS2 and PS3 (though to a much lesser degree compared to its predecessors). I'll wait until much later into the gen before I buy anything.

#61 Posted by jun_aka_pekto (15916 posts) -

Heck, no. I'm sticking to the same formula as before. PC for multiplats and PC exclusives, PS4 for PS4 exclusives and sports games.

I guess the sports game part would satisfy the OP's argument since I prefer sports games on consoles even if they're available on the PC.

@experience_fade: Everyone says it has a godly controller that far surpasses the Xbone pad. Everyone calls it a massive improvement.

The PC is the best system for multiplats.

Perfect answer

All the announced exclusives simply suck so far, so you'll HAVE to play multiplats on it.

#66 Edited by ZZoMBiE13 (22911 posts) -

I'll be getting both of the consoles this year, so I have no idea where I'll be picking up multiplats yet. The new PS4 controller looks like a vast improvement over the PS3/2/1 design which has always left my hands cramped up and hurting after even a short gaming session.

It'll depend on a lot of factors really. How easy the new version of the dashboard is to navigate for both consoles, comfort of the controllers, online services, trophy/achievement integration. This gen my Xbox got the most play. In the coming gen I'd like to spread the game time around to a much more even degree.

So far I have plans for 2 platform exclusives and a multiplatform game for each. Gotta try out all the options.

Yes PS4 is going to be my main console next gen... most likely my only console as XB1 doesn't really appeal to me.

I usually buy systems for exclusives, so chances are i will buy a xbox one first for Fable Legends, after the huge let down of Deep Down graphics downgrade and online only garbage reveal

PS4 needs more real exclusives, like Demons Souls 2 or some amazing JRPG

They lost FF15 too, so now they are way behind xbox one that has the epic medieval exclusives i want, like Ryse and Fable

Nope. I'm not willing to put up with a shoddy online service just for the potential of a slight bump in graphics.

Things like controller, OS features, Online service etc. are more important to me and XOne wins in those areas.

how far gone down the pointless cognitive failure of a system warrior path have you gone to think that the playstation online is shoddy? I owned both and they were near friggin identical. seriously?

Dedicated servers for all games? SO? I was getting 30-40 ping in p2p games with no problems, oh sure the occasional drop out was expected. but ffs its not like you get the full controllable dedicated server experiance with a server browser like on PC. you get the same damn limited automatch system you always did now with 1% less hassle. well done.

stop overxagurating, your not fooling anyone, maybe your special self though.... thats clear.

The "XBL is superior" card is running dry now. PSN has every feature an online gamer needs plus freebies give it far better value than Live. Dedicated servers is overrated. If my opponents have a good connection, I never recieve a dropped game. Fanboys act as if PSN is unplayable when both services work the same for me.

Do you know why people consider XBL superior? It's not just because XBL has more features and a better interface, it's not because of value, obviously PSN+ has that in spades, its the functionality. The PSN is abysmal when it comes to downloading, than having to install everything from patches to demos. The entire software side of the PS3 was abysmal, I wanted to play Disgaea 4 a few weeks ago and it took 45 minutes to install the patches for the game, I wanted to download a demo of Ratchet and Clank Future, took an hour to download it and install it took even longer, and this is all on a 30mb download and 5mb upload speed so it isn't my internet.

PSN+ can offer the entire PS4 library for free, and it still doesn't mean much when you can access these games and features within a reasonable time frame.

Lets not forget about the other issues like match making, on Killzone 3 leaving matchmaking literally takes minutes to go back to the menu, the friends list is also atrocious, having to sync trophies to compare them to your friends, I could list dozens of other PSN blunders.

The simple fact is that no matter how much Sony tries to improve their online their going to play catch up to Microsoft. Right now PSN is unable to do what Xbox Live was able to do back in 2006. Software is Microsoft's specialty just like hardware is Sony's and quite frankly the Japanese cannot do software or networking properly, Konami ID is a good example, and even the guys who made Dark Cloud were suppose to make an MMO for the Xbox called True Fantasy Live Online until Microsoft gave them the shaft because they couldn't do net code right.

I swear in about a 6 months from now I'm going to make a video that does a thorough comparison of both systems interface and online service and we can finally put this sh*t to rest once and for all.

#71 Posted by SonofK (1066 posts) -

Oh and I'm sticking to PC, I'll buy a PS4 and Xbox One when Infamous SS and Quantum Break come out but multiplats on PC are generally cheaper and play 10x better. Except for Assassins Creed for some reason.

#72 Posted by getyeryayasout (7173 posts) -

I'm not buying day one, but at this point the PS4 seems like the closest to a sure thing as you could get.

#73 Posted by sukraj (22131 posts) -

It's possible. But if I don't like the controller (I hated the DS3) it'll likely be the Xbox One for me.

I cant stand the sony controller i love the xbox controller so i'll be getting a xbox one at launch.

What I've learned from your post:

You ignore everything that makes an online service great and think it all boils down the your connection to multiplayer games. If a bare bones online service is your thing, then you'll be right at home on PSN.

Lems had superior multiplats due to having a) better controller b) better online service and c)in some cases graphical superiority. Lems still have two of those things next gen. Go figure.

And yet you think the cluttered near-broken PSN interface is fine LOL I work in UX design. This is an area when my opinion is better than yours.

You seem to not realise the XOne has many more exclusives than the PS4.

#76 Posted by BreadNMilk (37 posts) -

I pre ordered 2 PS4s for all games. Not just for exclusives and not just for multi-plats.

#77 Posted by tagyhag (15867 posts) -

I have a PC so heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllll no. It will be used for exclusives.

#78 Posted by blackace (20272 posts) -

@experience_fade: Everyone says it has a godly controller that far surpasses the Xbone pad. Everyone calls it a massive improvement.

You mean everyone who hasn't used either controller. lol!! Who's everyone?

Most of my friends won't be playing multiplats on a PC, so no I won't be playing them on that platform. Unless it's an MMO, then yes, I'd probably play it on PC.

lol exactly. getting a new console for CoD is incredibly stupid. why not play it on ps3? same thing

@i_waaan: what more is there to look into? Also it's called Steam Machine.

Steam Machine, Steam Box....I know Valve calls it "Steam Machine", but Steam Box has been thrown around by the community in general. Either way, you knew what I meant. And yea..there really isn't much more to look into. It seems as though lower end Steam Machines will be slightly more powerful than either PS4 or XB1, and if they keep the price around 500 bucks...I'm sold. Being able to play games on high settings while still getting that awesome social experience PC gaming is known for is pretty appealing. Not to mention, Steam is incredible...I love it and I'm excited to be able to bring my existing library of PC games over to my Steam Machine. Elder Scrolls online looks good on PS4, but I can't help but prefer MMOs with a keyboard and mouse. Soma by frictional games already looks incredible, TitanFall, etc...these are just a few games, but I can't help but feel that PC gaming is about to go through a massive resurgence in the market. Playing on my TV effortlessly is just icing on the cake.

That wouldn't be smart considering these consoles will become outdated in a year or so, wile multiplats will look and perform better on a PC. So nope, sticking with the PC for multiplats.
