Poll: PS4 to become the greatest selling console ever? (98 votes)

Yes 39%
No 34%

Currently the PS4 is at 4.2m and that's only after 1 month on sale, that's incredible! that's awe inspiring, now it got me thinking, if it continues this trend, then we might see a new record

4.2million x 12months = 50.4 million

Now, let's say the PS4 lasts for 8 years

50.4 x 8 = 403.2 MILLION!

You heard it here first, the PS4 will sell over 400 million.

Probably.PS4 is the best next console with the best games.......SDC.

Yawn, sales.

#3 Posted by Floppy_Jim (25769 posts) -

Your mathematics are impeccable. PS4 will sell over 400 million without a doubt.

PS400million

need some games first!

lol infamous

fog + crap graphics, this is your system seller?

#5 Posted by FoxbatAlpha (7422 posts) -

Sales will fizzle to a dead stop if indie filler is all people have to play.

Don't count on PS Now doing anything. It will be so broken since the demo they ran had broken latency...............and the "server" was in the same room.

Right now Infamous SS is a joke with all the fog, masking the weak system power.

So no, not gonna touch PS2 sales.

#6 Posted by RimacBugatti (1287 posts) -

Indeed it will break records! The only competition is the Steam Machines but they wont get as much support. Sony really did a great job this time. Xbone is trailing but wont keep the momentum. PS4 is nowhere to be found as Xbone is everywhere. Graphically PS4 is up there with PC for sure but not exactly. Xbone is a jagged mess which is no better than Wii U. The PS4 has some slight issues but Xbone is one problem after another. If only we had some more games for PS4. By December this year we will see what happens. but considering there is no games the sales are very high.

Dat butthurt incredible,so how was your theory of sony stopping manufacturing PS4 to fix issues as the reason for cause of the shortage of units.?

Hahahahaa.....

But but sony stop making PS4 to fix all the problems it has...hahahaha

4.2 vs 3 million sony manufacture and sold 1.2 million PS4 faster than MS..lol

Oh Christ, there goes another day you couldn't resist turning your PC on.

Until you can disprove my theory or I can prove it, it is just that, a theory. One you don't like to hear.

Sales doesn't dictate the better console. It shows how many people out there bought the PS4/10 that "want" it to be good. Time will tell and right now there aint much to look forward too. Infamous SS? LOL.

Your theory was a joke and sony proved that by making and selling more units,so no sony didn't stop making units.

Yeah that is true, but the xbox one has less games and lower scored ones to,the PS4 will get Infamous soon, and Drive Club after that which are 2 games you can only get on PS4,what is the best you have.?

Oh yeah Titanfall half a game without single player, that can be bought on xbox 360 and PC without need in to buy an expensive xbox one with xbox live.

It's not going to sell 4.2 million every month. I can pretty much guarantee you that. It didn't. sell 4.2 in a month anyways. It did it in 45 days. Xb1 sold 3 million in 38 days. Sales will start dropping like a rock come March & April. $400 & $500 is still a lot for casual gamers to pay for a game console. A lot of people will wait 1-2 years before buying one. It's not going to get anywhere close to 400 million sold. Fantasy Land is down the street, into that rabbit hole in the tree. lol!!

it has a shot. beating the king ps2 will be tough.

#12 Edited by Jag85 (4615 posts) -

Nope, it's highly unlikely it will ever reach the heights of the PS2 or DS.

@FoxbatAlpha: I've been a long-time lurker on these forums, among others (it helps kill a day at the office), and you have to be one of the more ridiculous posters on these boards. If history is any indication, and we've seen it three console generations in a row, Sony will no doubt provide a steady stream of excellent, varied exclusive titles.

To answer the OP, I don't think the PS4 will reach the same heights as the PS2. The PS2 had very little competition (an underwhelming Gamecube and the first entry into consoles by MS) during its time of dominance. It received a ton of exclusives due to its market share that are now multi-platform titles. It was both the hardcore and casual console of choice. Today it has the Xbone to compete with, as well as tablets, phones, (lol) WiiU and a much more approachable PC ecosystem due to Steam.

That being said, I won't say it's impossible because the gaming market has only grown since them, but I do think it's improbable.

If it sells more than 100 mil, Sony can be content.

This is a stupid forum.

Way too many factors.........

Xbox One only released in 13 countries.

PS4 48countries.

What if Sony announces a killer exclusive and everyone starts buying PS4 and vice versa.

Too many factors.

Stupid Forum.

Waay to early even if Sony will have more sales.

#19 Posted by _Matt_ (8924 posts) -

NO.

Will not at all.

Quote me, the PS4 will not outsell the PS2.

there aren't many factors actually. The only places that Xbox has dominated are NA and a tiny piece of UK but this is not gonna be the case now when Sony's at its best. The fact that the PS4 is competitive with the XB1 on NA basically sealed the deal. PS4 will dominate this generation no matter what.

The only reason the PS3 took so much to outsell the X360 is because NA wasn't buying it. In fact, the X360 has a 15 million lead over the PS3 in America but now without it the XB1 is destined to fail.

#21 Edited by clr84651 (5487 posts) -

I believe that 155 million will be difficult to beat, but is possible with the PS4 if Sony does things to entice consumers along the way ie price drops, Playstation Now etc.

Not accurate. Xbox One 3 million in 38 days

PS4 4.2 million in 45 days.

Wii U - Nintendo said they sold 4.3 million as of Dec 14th. I doubt this made it over 5 million at the end of 2013. The want to sell 5.5 million by the end of March 2014.

Just saying. You got the point, so that's good as well. A lot of systems can sell in 1-2 weeks.

Nintendo actually wants to sell 9 million WiiU's in FY 2013. The LTD of the WiiU has to be around 12 million for this to happen which will not happen.

#35 Posted by super600 (30720 posts) -

ThePS4 won't get 400 million(I know you are joking sweenix) and it won't get 100 million since it's appealing to the same audience as the PS3. Sony's messaging for the PS4 compared to the PS3 is a lot better but I really don't know if it will translate to a higher LTD than the PS3 at the end of this gen or an LTD of 100 million.

#36 Posted by osan0 (12748 posts) -

its going to be very tough to beat the PS2. unlike with the first xbox, this time MS actually know what they are doing. like the PC, the consoles are also going to have to deal with tablets and phones.

i think the spread of sales is going to be a lot more even like it was last gen so i dont see the PS4 beating the PS2. it should beat the PS3 in sales though.

#37 Posted by Jakandsigz (4512 posts) -

Your math is off. First off the PS4 could have sold a lot more if not for one factor. Two, their is a supply issue. 3. People are not going to bu 4.2 million consoles every month in a half and even they would, Sony does not have the supply. Also, another company managed to grab some sales from Sony despite screwing up for like 6 months in a row.

#38 Posted by Sushiglutton (5340 posts) -

You really can't draw conclusions like that :)

#39 Edited by adamosmaki (9656 posts) -

Yes because we all know PS4 will be selling every month like is the launch month and it will also be selling like its Christmas holiday every day .

Oh and by your logic X1 will sell over 300million. You heard it first here people. 700million sales for 2 consoles

#40 Posted by ACP_45 (434 posts) -

@Gue1: Not fail.

But not achieve as much sales.

But I guess you are right.

But one factor can still change a lot.

Lots of good points but consoles have always had competition. PS 2 had to compete with handhelds and other consoles. Tablet and phone gaming could be for many the gateway to console gaming. I dont know of anyone who would choose mobile over console. But I know a few people who played free shooters on their phones and ended up buying consoles to get a better experience.

Like you said though the market is growing. Most gamers who have less free time as they get older still game, just less and then theres probably 1,000's of kids a day who's parents buy them their first console.

Quite possibly and it's no coincidence that it started after SONY embraced the Live, Learn and Love lifestyle,.

No, but its a great way to bounce back though, just can't wait for PS2.

#45 Edited by X_CAPCOM_X (6267 posts) -

It might, and I hope it does surpass the PS2 both in greatness and sales. That would be awesome

#46 Edited by R3FURBISHED (10607 posts) -

@Sweenix - 400 million? That wont happen by any stretch of the imagination.

...and wouldn't it be "best selling" instead of "greatest selling"?

My initial guess of both the PS4 and Xbox One selling 100 million is looking like it will hold up, but neither is going to break 200 million.

#47 Edited by finalstar2007 (25297 posts) -

I truly hope so! PlayStation where games are at baby!

so much for lulz consoles are slowing down, its pure epicness how amazing the new gen consoles are selling its going to help us seeing a lot more games and boy i cannot wait for Sony's first party games

#48 Edited by Dante2710 (63140 posts) -

The chances of the ps4 selling at the same rate throughout the year is impossible, demand usually dies down after a a month of two.

#49 Posted by Phazevariance (10981 posts) -

Cows are spooging all over the place abotu sales now that sony sold 4.2 million. The front page of system wars alone has 7 threads on it already.

#50 Posted by kunal_anand50 (79 posts) -

I am pretty sure that there isn't even a market of 400 million for all consoles combined.

Ps4 would be the highest selling this gen. How much it would sell remains to be seen.
