Nice design.

Nice find man, looks like a well built system to me.
Indeed.
It's smaller, stronger and looks 10x better than the Xbone 720p.
It' is amazing how well they designed the PS4. It is so clean and efficient.
Looks like something from the future, while Xbox One looks like something from the 90's lol.

A 90's VCR. lol

Sony has been in the hardware electronics business for many many years, they're one of the best at this sort of thing.

Correction... the 80's

Your gif photo is awesome.....XBone....lol
System Wars is almost unbearable. 90% of this board is riding Sony's jock. Where did all of the discussion go?
A nice touch is that the heat sink is connected to the shield plate making it even better.
Explain to us in your own words why it's better
It's hard to believe there's an 8 core CPU and a GPU with 18 CUs on such tiny little piece. Technology has come a long way.
Is not that hard to believe when you consider its basically using laptop parts and a laptop with a 8970M which is basically a lowered clocked 7870 has a similar footprint. Though is seems is well designed and easy to access and repair
Wow it shows how much superior sony is making hardware than MS,the whole excuse of a big console to keep the heat down is a joke, sony really out did MS,build in power supply and still way smaller and more powerful.
Pull your head oucha ass. The power supply is covering 90% of the rear vents. (the only vents). Ever hear of breath in, breath out? Of course not. Doomed for 100% failure rating.
30 day return policy awaits.

Same design as the PS3 superslim, that works just fine. What you are seeing is the power supply is pushing the hot air out of the back on one side, and pulling air in on the other.

Is also waiting.
Theoretically, it would increase the surface area of the heatsink, giving it more area to dissipate heat. However, that heat has to go somewhere. If they compensated with the air flow coming off of the PSU, it could work a lot better than not having it at all. Guess we will find out in a week.

Laptop with the 8970m are not APU based, they have a CPU and a GPU apart basically the PS4 APU is one soc with CPU and GPU in just 1,is basically the biggest APU AMD has make to this day.
"Maybe" the Xbox will run cooler, but that's a different matter than parading about how somehow Ps4 will run as hot as a laptop. Because that's asinine.

what does this have to do with the xbox? Another pointless add on post.
That said, it looks cool. I really hope the heating problem is solved with the cpu/gpu as that was the killer of the fat ones. I could tell they were trying to fix it on the models (broken) that I have.

Doesn't show anything. If the fan doesn't push out enough hot air, we are back to the same issue the fat ps3 model had. So it could be super small, if the fan sucked, size wouldn't matter.

Which wasn't even close to the RROD the xbox 360 had even that it had an external power supply,so yeah it does show how great sony is,imagine how worse RROD would have been with an internal power supply even worse one as big as the power brick the 360 had.
After a ton of ps3 models with them changing the components in them each time, both sides should have learned. But the RROD issue was fixed and I wasn't comparing it to that, "you" brought that up.
This doesn't show great, it shows improvement and them being smarter about the issues that plagued them in the past. I can only imagine how bad it would be with that. I think the ps3 should have went with the external brick as well.
Maybe a lot of people would still have the b/c models. I started off with a b/c model. But it only lasted about a year.

There is always a tons of model is not just heat issues, the PS2 fat din't have heat issues and receive a redesign to it add ethernet and cost less to make, most redesign models are done to lower price of cost rather than to fix problems, those get fixed most of the time by improvements on the manufacturing process.
In all forms it was like that, the first fats, then the 40GB fats which eliminated PS2 compatibility and then lower the price to $400,then the slim that changed several things as well and another price cut to $300,and now the super slim which remote the automatic tray system for a manual one and change HDD for internal flash and added another price drop.
Looks like a fairly solid design, but time will tell if they system itself is built to last. They definitely weren't kidding when they said they went with a design based on PC architecture.
We've definitely come a long way from the Xbox 360/PS3 fat models. Whoever put a heatsink right below the DVD drive in the 360 fat needs mental evaluation.
Fan is tiny. Hope it works ok.
I considered this as well. Here's hoping it's a high-quality fan.
It'll likely be fine since the PS4 is pretty much just laptop parts, and the fan is not much smaller than PHAT PS3; we shall see.
It's also worth noting that there's A LOT of ventilation in the back of that system.

i know that. My comment is to show that there are already laptops with ps4 power and similar footprint hence Sony didnt reinvent the wheel like some fanatical cows seem to think. They just looked into laptop design did something similar and granted it seems to done it quite good ( seems easy to open and repair and seems the cooling will be adequate thanks to a rather large heatsink though it remains to be seen what temps it will have )
