Pokemon sells 3 mil. in three days even without Europe

"The exact number sits in the region of 3,040,000, with 1,534,593 of those coming from Japan alone according to Famitsu (via Gematsu). The rest were made up from sales in both North America and Australia, where the game launched last Friday.

To give a bit of context, last year's Pokemon X and Y managed to sell 4 million copies in two days, but that was with the benefit of a simultaneous global release. With Europe getting its hands on ORAS this Friday, expect another spike before too soon."

Holy fucking moly that's impressive. This is where I feel bad for buying three copies of the shit generation that was X and Y and not buying remakes of my favorite gen day one :(

Great sales. I guess gen 3 does stick out to some poke vets after all. Personally it wasn't my favorite gen but looking back on it after the new gens made me appreciate it for being a little bit different compared to some of the other ones. They all have slight changes both graphically and mechanically, but rse really stood out due to the region and trumpets. :P

@silversix_: I believe that has been talked about before, but gamefreak is against making console versions. I may be wrong, but I'm quite sure I've read it before.

These numbers look really awkward next to SSBU's "impressive" not-even-500k.

@Big_Pecks: SSBU sold that on a substantially smaller base in one region only. Not comparable.

Plus nothing actually looks good next to Pokemon's sales numbers, man.

depends on people. I like the training my team (not necessarily playing mp, but I do that too), some people like exploring, some people love mp, others want to catch 'em all, etc.

Yeah, Pokemon has just gotten better and better over the years. With the addition of super training, it's just pushed Pokemon to new hights of awesome!

Yep... I assume it was the gameplay that made it so popular.

@Lulu_Lulu: It's a turn based battle system, revolving around exploiting strengths and weaknesses and stat maximization. Given that everything has a hard limit on it (the number of active Pokemon on you at a time, the number of moves Pokemon can know at a time, and so on), it also involves an element of permutation based resource management.

Pokemon is so popular because it offers the player meaningful choice in how they play the game. The entire game is basically a sandbox letting you build the ultimate team that suits your sensibilities
