That's quite sad. The Playstation brand has taken a big hit in America this generation. The PS3 does great in Europe and the PSP does great in Japan.

But in America, Sony just can't seem to find their audience.

Interestingly, if that link is accurate, the ratio of NPD sales to worldwide sales for both the PS3 and PS2 are apparently pretty similar. In fact, American sales make up a slightly larger % of PS3 sales than PS2 sales, while American sales make up a slightly smaller % of 360 sales than Xbox 1 sales.

PS2: 45 million - 147 million (30.6%)

PS3: 14.2 million - 41.6 million (34.13%)

-----

Xbox: 14.5 million - 24 million (60.4%)

Xbox 360: 23.5 million - 44.6 million (52.7%)

Cant seem to find their audience? It's not like the PS3 is failing in America, just being outsold by the 360 and Wii.

It's not failing, just as the PSP technically isn't failing. But I feel Sony corp. may have reached a new low in that particular region. (I'm associating brand power with the relative success of both the PS3 and PSP, and America is the only region where Sony is last in both)

But you're right, the consoles are still relatively successful. They're doing better in America than Nintendo & Microsoft did last generation. It just looks bad relatively, compared to the competition.

That number will increase soon enough. Xbox 360's numbers will also increase (as it has) but given how lackluster its doing in Japan where popular consoles can sell up to 40,000+ in one week, I think the PS3 will surpass the 360's WW numbers and decrease the lead the 360 has domestically

thats because the Xbox name has gained recognition around the world therefor its american sales aren't its only strong area, and the Playstation brand name has lost face the ps3 isn't getting the usual great sales every where like playstation used too.

I don't doubt that you're right. But Microsoft still has a long ways to go in the rest of the world. Well over half their sales still only come from one country. And if there are 21 million Xbox 360s sold outside of the United States, that means there's about 27 million Playstation 3s...

still means nothing in what you added, it wasn't an argument it was an explaination of the different averages in a generation and why they changed.

The Japanese home console market has declined in favor of handhelds.

The XBOX has gained a new stronghold in the UK.
