Hopefully not too widespread of an issue. It would be a pain for the buyers to have to get them fixed.

I had issues with my first 360 in the first year and it was a pain to have to send it in to get fixed

It's got a bigger issue, it has no games..

Well atleast it can play games in 1080p, sorry lems. next gen maybe?

You can go to both Xbox and PS forums and see various issues with each console.

Like this issue on Xbone for example.

I got the 2 year warranty anyways, I'm covered. Awwww yeahhhhhh :D

Just read parts of that thread. It seemed it wasn't an Xbox One hardware issue, but something to do with how the Live servers were handling the XB1 login

They fixed it BTW

So in the link I posted originally the person is speculating that it may occur because of a overheating issue with the PS4. He says ..."It could also result from overheating, which is likely considering the hardware that’s packed in to the PlayStation 4’s tiny case."

I know people like the looks of the PS4 and mock the XB1 for it's hugeness :D But given that these systems are running CPU/GPU's that are as powerful as they are, I think the more space for them to breathe is a good idea...might not be aesthetically pleasing though

The only thing that concerns me is the rubber of the analog sticks on the DS4. There have been some reports of it falling off with extended use. I hope sony has fixed that the moment I decide to buy me a PS4

#10 Posted by RedentSC (556 posts) -

Yeah i get those white diamonds on BF now and again... very concerning. Most likely a driver issue though as its very very rare, and if you have a fault that is hardware, it will never display itself as a "rare" issue

#11 Edited by regnaston (153 posts) -

@Heil68 holy linkage batman :D

I did not say there were not issues with the X1 .. there will be failure rates with any electronic system.

Given the choice however I would rather have the optical drive fail than a CPU/GPU issue

I am not sure how widespead the PS4 issue is, it could be fairly low (hopefully).. I do know from reports that the failure rate of the X1's dues to any hardware issue are being reported at well under the 3% which is 'acceptable' in the industry (cant find the link at this moment)

You do realise that the ps4 and the xbox one run at very low heat compared to the ps3/360 and overheating on both systems has a fail safe mechanic which switches them both off, This was an official testing for release in north america

#14 Posted by regnaston (153 posts) -

@bezza2011:

Did not realize that was the case. I just assumed the more powerful systems = more heat. I would still err on the side of caution and want more airflow though

#15 Posted by bezza2011 (1914 posts) -

@regnaston: I believe it's due to the fact using AMD products and not NIVIDA,

I'm still trying to work out why the xbox One is so big, it can't just be airflow surely??

it comes down to the designer and the research into airflow, which determines how small you can go, I mean take into account how small the ps2 got in it's last stage I mean for dvd drive and games console to be that small heat must be crazy but it's been done.

Also i can assure you its happening. I get the graphical glitches in BF4, never noticed them in any other game though. Could be related to disc based games maybe?

I not see how you can blame any Battlefield 4 issue on hardware since so many bug on all platform. I seen the thing with little squares on map but but it only happen on certain map and goes away when playing. Other game could be bug too si nce launch games.

#36 Posted by treedoor (7478 posts) -

Since the PS4's launch there have been millions of reports of people unable to play games.

Unfortunately, it's not due to a hardware issue that requires a simple fix. It is in fact due to nogames.

#37 Posted by edwardecl (1309 posts) -

OK if it's a wide spread problem affecting more than 1% of consoles then it would be a problem.

It could be an overheating issue (for a number of reasons), ram issue or PSU problem or a combination of all. I very much doubt it's a design flaw although we would need to wait a few more months for that to show up.

The reason the Xbox One is so large is they did not want a repeat of the 360. They have used the tried and tested PC way of cooling, leaving large air gaps and big fans lazy and safe in my opinion.

Sony have gone more for the ducted air flow design, and put a low of work into it... http://vr-zone.com/articles/sony-engineer-unveils-functional-beauty-ps4s-cooling-system/69852.html

I got the 2 year warranty anyways, I'm covered. Awwww yeahhhhhh :D

That was an issue with the Live Services, not with the XBox One. Looks like it was fixed in less they 24hrs. Sony still hasn;t fixed that damn "Save File Corruption" Error that has been going on for over 2 months now with various games, not just BF4. Sony is doing what it does best. Ignore the problems.

The only real errors the XB1 has had was faulty Blu-Ray Drive and Green Screen when booting up. The issue was no where near as widespread as all the PS4 issues. The BLOD is still happening as well. Sony doesn't care as long as their slave open their wallets to them and bow to their backsides.

Update: One of IGN's office machines suffers from the same disc drive problem many have reported. When a disc is inserted,

the Xbox One makes a grinding noise, but the disc is unaffected. However, Xbox One won't read any game discs.

"Sorry, we can't play the disc," a notification says. "Try an Xbox One game, a music CD, or a movie on Blu-ray or DVD."

I guess those issues and the others present on the Xbone Support forums are "within reason" and only traitorous, EVIL Sony is at fault.

Yeah i get those white diamonds on BF now and again... very concerning. Most likely a driver issue though as its very very rare, and if you have a fault that is hardware, it will never display itself as a "rare" issue

or maybe your GPU is melting, not a big problem...

http://www.gamenguide.com/articles/9376/20140205/playstation-4-problems-pop-up-no-audio-accompanies-strange-grid-and-electric-shocks.htm

Case in point with this gentleman who had a shocking exchange with his own Sony device. PS4 owner Bogusm is reporting the following dilemma:

"The first time I tried to eject a game disc I got an electric shock when pressing the eject button on my Playstation 4. After that I get an electric shock almost every time. Feels like touching an electric fence. I am not sure I dare letting my kid use the PS4 any more. Should I return the unit or what?"

It's surely cause for concern when any device sends a jolt of electricity through your body, but what makes me a bit more ill at ease is that this fine father seemed content to continue using it. I picture the scenario playing out like the opening of "Office Space," with Bogsum looking at the PS4's eject button with that same scorn Ron Livington gave the cursed doorknob to the side entrance. Until that one day, when Bogsum could take it no longer, finally relenting and taking to the PlayStation Forum to ask for advice.

That brings a whole new meaning to "Dual Shock" ;)
