Time for cows to start sweating...

During an interview, Phil Spencer discussed the price of the upcoming Xbox Scorpio. He said that the console would be reasonably priced and not be something gamers haven't seen in this space before. It also looks like it'll have various hard drive size options. Spencer said:

“So you can see the price of the S today. When we designed both of these, which we kind of designed it in parallel. We thought about the price performance of what we wanted to hit with the Scorpio, relative to what we were going to be able to do with the S. So that we would have a good price continuum, so people wouldn’t look at these two things as so disconnected because of the price delta. So I think you will feel like it’s a premium product, a premium console. And not something, anything more than that. So I wouldn’t get people worried that this thing is going to be unlike any console price you’ve ever seen. We didn’t design it that way. That said, the opening price point for the Xbox One S, and the different hard drive sizes that is a critical part of this whole product. When I think about it as a product line, you should expect the pricing to kind of be in line with that.”

This is definitely great news that the price won't be out of the ordinary or unnecessarily exorbitant. I'm definitely getting one and am glad it's not like $1,000 or something similar.

'Reasonably priced' for the hardware that it has, not 'reasonably priced' compared to it's competitors.

It'll still be a good chunk over the Pro.

Anyone who thought Microsoft would be dumb enough to price their console $100 higher than their competition again was stupid. Anyways, the tech won't be all that special come late 2017, so it never made sense to me why people thought it would be this super expensive console. It will be priced at $399.99 max because Microsoft will want to build strong momentum out the gate with the Scorpio. They are still getting their asses kicked by Sony Worldwide, so they are hoping they can turn that around with the release of the Scorpio.

"So I wouldn’t get people worried that this thing is going to be unlike any console price you’ve ever seen." This jumble of words is so poorly worded I'm hardly able to discern WTF he is trying to say. Okay, that's an exaggeration and I'm nit-picking. I understand but simply stating it will have a competitive price point is a more succinct way of letting us know.

The hardware it will have wont be all that pricey late next year. Expect the Scorpio base model to be identical to Pro base model with the HDD options being more expensive for both respect consoles. If they have HDD options, that is.

Yeah....considering this is a year away I don't think anyone is too concerned honestly. Until then a lot can change. The Pro can flop or be massive hit, the NX can flop or be a massive hit (this one being the "wild card" per say), VR can flop or be a massive hit, etc.. there are a lot of things, hardware related, that can change the market in just this single year while the Scorpio awaits its release.

Right now this all just "PR Wars" per say.

Nah. I really don't think he (Spencer) was eluding to the precedence of a $600 consoles because that price was a massive hole for Sony to climb out of in terms of sales and just the sticker shock itself. MS is out of their fucking minds if Scorpio is significantly more expensive than the Pro. Maybe $50 more would be acceptable. Maybe.

Well that is how i get it,$499 1TB $599 2 or 3TB...Which is a huge profits maker for them.

I don't think that you can do a game console using more powerful CPU GPU more ram and simply more of everything and price it just $50 more than a PS4 Pro 1 year after the pro launch.

The XBO was a weak POS with Kinect and was $100 more, hell the XBOS 2TB is $400 that is what the pro cost.

So i don't see Scorpio at all at $400.

Oh and that is what MS will price it,we are not taking into account sony dropping the price of the PS4 Pro $50 or more, alto i think they will wait and see before reducing a single dollar.

If Scorpio doesn't outsell the PS4 by something big i don't see sony dropping a dime.

The Xbox Scorpio is going to be $499 for at least 1tb HDD, 12gb of Ram, modifed Zen CPU because anything else will be a huge bottleneck.

I'm not expecting anything more than 500$ for the 2TB model. It'll be something like 400$ for the Scorpio and Sony will probably reduce the price of the Pro by 50$ or less in 2017.

Might as well build a PC for same price $500-$600. You'll get same spec as the Scorpio or better. All Xbox One games are coming to PC anyway, if you don't wanna use KB/M, there's always Xbox 360 controllers for that and yeah I know, PC isn't for everyone which is why these console exist in the first place but I thought I just want to point out the PC is the logical choice.

Nobody thought it wouldnt be reasonably priced, except some cows. Anyone who believes MS would be stupid enough to price the console $100 more than the competition again, well, thats just another rung on the new Cow Narrative, cows created to cope since the Scorpio/pro.

The rungs on the new Cow Narrative are as follows:

  • Lolol the scorpio will be $799-$1299
  • Just wait till PS5

You can see the levels of cope are on astronomical levels, as there are actual cows who believe Sony is going to rush out a PS5 in 2018 just to not lose a bulletpoint in the console wars. (If you believe we're getting true 9th gen consoles any time before 2020/2021, I have blinker fluid to sell you)

I think its gonna be a little too late for the scorpio. The year gap is going to cost MS some serious ground. Scorpio is also going to be competing with cheaper console offerings whenever it releases. Which include better bundles and MS own X1S.

Since no need to include a controller I'm thinking $499.99 may be the asking price.

I'm in, bring that Mighty Scorpio on baby !!! :P

"Bu, but my sources at GAF told me it would be $800.00 and would fail!"

I love how cows get their asses in a twist every time the beast Scorpio is mentioned. It almost makes this place worth coming back to.

I also can't wait to see what they will do with the Elite Scorpio. I'm guessing 4TB and the best controller on the planet bundled with one of the best shooters or racers.

Insert into pipe and smoke.

@joebones5000: Exactly, MS should have learned that with the whole Xbone with Kinect failure. There has to be a base scorpio with a $399, then an elite package at $499. If it's only $499 then it's going to flop in sales at least.

I don't get what MS is doing with this any way. They claim to be going after the enthusiast crowd, but hardware enthusiasts will just build a PC.

Its funny how desperately Sony fannies want the Scorpio to be high priced. Its very entertaining. Its not going to exceed $500 and it would most likely be $399. I can't wait for the tears when the price is confirmed. All of these "It would be $600" would be back-pedaling at dangerous speeds or fishing for something else to complain about.

MS know's what did them in this gen was the price of the hardware. It wasn't so much that the Xbox was $500, it was the fact that it was that much and not stronger than the competition which was charging less. That was just stupid all around but this type around pushing that it's the most powerful console and able to do 4k gaming and if it has a 4k player inside of it then they'll have the trifecta for charging the scorpio $500, it would make more sense then to do that. Anything over $500 it will struggle, it will push out well at $500 and if they decide to even do $400 then they'll take over the console sales with that price but I say it will be $500

You would think, but it's still a hassle to build a pc. I think after 22 years I think I have built my last. Shit. I used to build a new one every year or two back in the day.

Console games have looked and played good enough for the past ten years, and I am tired of the upgrades (which aren't required nearly as frequently as in the past), and I'm sick fighting with my PC to run things. I am becoming a filthy console peasant. :)

Anyway, the console "enthusiasts" are the ones with multiple consoles with 2TB HDDs.

That and the fact this is a gen like none other before it. MS will have you covered with a close to $200.00 console by holidays next year in the X1S for economy class gamers that still plays all the games and for the big spender, the Mighty Scorpio is there for those that want a top tier console with all the bells & whistles.

The only people that thought it would be super expensive are fanboys who were hoping it was.

The market dictates the price and both Sony and MS have learned their lessons with PS3/Xbox One pricing at launch.

Expect 399-499 pricing.

$500 is within that scope, and if you read what they say in no play they say it will be like the Pro they say

“So you can see the price of the S today. When we designed both of these, which we kind of designed it in parallel. We thought about the price performance of what we wanted to hit with the Scorpio, relative to what we were going to be able to do with the S.

Scorpio is 4+ times more powerful with more memory and faster CPU,sony was able to offer the Pro at $400 because it uses the same CPU and same ram amount,it basically just changed the GPU and nothing more.

Scorpio other hand is claim by some to change all which mean increase in price in all fronts and since stronger GPU requires better cooling that also mean big case and better cooling solution again which cost more.

A single USB port can be millions of dollars in saving by just taking it away.

So I wouldn’t get people worried that this thing is going to be unlike any console price you’ve ever seen. We didn’t design it that way.

What he say there ^^ is not that the console will be priced like the pro at all, what he say is that the console will not be $700 which is over what WE ALREADY HAVE SEEN BEFORE with the PS3 which was $600.

So again that probably mean $499 1TB model and $599 2 or 3 TB model.

Anyone who thinks Scorpio will be priced as Pro is day dreaming..

That without counting that sony can drop the price as the PS4 Pro will be even cheaper to manufacture then than now.

@PSP107 said:

So

1TB-$400

2TB-$450-$500

That bold part alone show how out of touch with reality some people are.

The XBOS is $299 a 2TB model is $400 essentially what a Pro cost,so i don't see how a 2TB version can be just $50 more than a 1TB version is just unreal, and out of touch with the reality of the current market now.

@PSP107: Small clarification on my part, 500$ (or less) for the 2TB or 2TB+ model. I don't think they'll be continuing the 500GB SKU to be honest. It is very vague I'll admit but at this point, I don't know, whatever MS will come up with, it'll surprise me.

I don't know what MS considers reasonable but I'm doubting it aligns exactly with consumers. I think Scorpio will come out of the gate as the most expensive console....unless Nintendo goes a little crazy. I think the S will be their standard with the Scorpio being a bit more niche.

Probably a range between 450-550 depending on hd space and bundles? That would be my guess. Im hoping when it releases the ps4 pro will drop in price so i can pick that up to complement my xbox one.

@tormentos: I just don't see them taking the Sony 2005 route after the whole "FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS" debacle.

Sony surprised me with the 399$ PS4 Pro, you literally cannot build a PC for that price that will give the same performance, in fact, not even close to that.

Hardware will become cheaper way before Holiday 2017, plus console manufacturers don't buy parts at retail price.

I think the opposite Kinect just added like $60 dollars to the xbox BOM,so pricing it at $500 was a profit for MS hell they loss $125 dollars per xbox 360 on 2005 and more than a billion repairing RROD.

Making the XBO $400 wasn't a deal breaker in fact 3 months after launch already you could grab a Titanfall bundle for $449 game included that is a much better deal than buying an XBO stand alone for $400 in june, paying $100 for Kinect apart and $60 for Titanfall apart.

MS could have done that,in fact they were offering even better deals.

Profits is the main reason for the drop of Kinect and the price, don't expect MS to lose $100 on each platform next year.

Common sense tell me that if MS can build a platform with a 6TF GPU,8 Core Zen CPU and 12GB of ram,and achieve $400 dollars that means the competition which isn't even paying for a 4k blu-ray licensing and has a 4.2TF GPU,with the same exact CPU they already have since 2013 and the same ram they already have could sell their for $299 or less without problems even more on 2017.

The Pro is $400 i think Scorpio will be $500 and $600 for a 3TB version or something like it,the xbox one S is $400 now with a 2TB HDD there is no way in hell Scorpio will hit that price when the xbox one S is a shitty jaguar and a 7770 refresh.

I actually agree with you on this..

Paying $500 for Scorpio is a hell of allot easier than paying it for the XBO on 2013.

You can conjure up specs and warped logic and justification as much as you like, the Scorpio is not going to be more than $500 and that is on the extreme end. Even when the price is announce to be equivalent or lower than $500 you will still find something to bitch about.
