Gameplay

Taken from the Overwatch Wikipedia because it summarizes the game pretty well...

Overwatch features squad-based combat with two opposing teams of six players each.^[2] Players choose one of several hero characters, each with their own unique abilities and role classes. The four character roles include: offense characters with high speed and attack but low defense, defense characters meant to form choke points for enemies, support characters that provide buffs and debuffs for their allies and enemies respectively (such as healing or speed alterations), and tank characters that have a large amount of armor and hit points to withstand enemy attacks and draw fire away from teammates. Players can switch between characters in-game following deaths, which is encouraged by the game's overall design.^[3][4] The game's maps are inspired by real-world locations;^[5] the first three maps unveiled ("King's Row", "Hanamura", "Temple of Anubis") are inspired by London, Japan, and the ruins of Ancient Egypt, respectively.^[4]

Game modes

Overwatch currently has four main game modes, including a hybrid of assault and escort:^[6]

• Assault: The attacking team is tasked with capturing two target points on the map, while the defending team must stop them.^[3][4]
• Escort: The attacking team is tasked with escorting a payload to a certain delivery point before time runs out, while the defending team must stop them. The payload vehicle moves along a fixed track when any player on the attacking team is close to it.^[3][4]
• Assault/Escort: The attacking team has to capture the payload and escort it to its destination, while the defending team tries to hold them back.
• Control: Each team tries to capture and maintain a common control point until their capture percentage reaches 100%. This game mode is played in a best-of-three format.

Characters

Characters in Overwatch come in four varieties: Offense, Defense, Tank, and Support. These roles serve to categorize the heroes of Overwatch by similar characteristics that can be used to describe them and their playstyle. The first appearance of an Overwatch character in a released game was on April 19, 2016 in Heroes of the Storm.^[7]

• Offense: Offense characters have high mobility and are known for their ability to deal large amounts of damage. To balance this, offense characters have a low number of hit points.^[8][9][10]
• Defense: Defense characters excel at protecting specific locations and creating choke points. They can also provide several means of field support, such as sentry set-up and trapping the enemy team.^[8][9][10]
• Tank: Tank characters have the most hit points out of all the characters in the game. Because of this, they are able to draw enemy fire away from their teammates to themselves, so as to disrupt the enemy team.^[8][9][10]
• Support: Support characters are utility characters that have abilities that enhance their own team and/or weaken the enemy team. They might not deal the most damage or have the most hit points, but the buffs and debuffs they provide ensure that their teammates who do will make short work of their opponents.^[8][9][10]

Honestly, this is the first time I can say even if this game scores a fucking 1/10 I'm still going to get it.

The beta was too fun, and it's going to be the biggest legit PC shooter 2nd only to CS:GO.

I usually dislike competitive games or they don't hold my attention for long but playing this BETA was amazing fun i enjoyed every second of it enough that i will be picking this up first thing.

And as usual for Blizzard the production values have that slickness to it, like it's been polished for years.

I'm expecting a 9/10. Game plays so well and is really enjoyable. Only thing they would harp on this game for is a lack of game modes for launch (if it is similar to the beta).

It did. And this is the reboot.

Gonna say a 7/10 as a safe bet.. I absolutely love the beta.. But I have a feeling it is going to be knocked down in score at release with its limited content of playmodes and maps for a multiplayer only game.. Though I am not too worried about that, when it comes to after-release support and updates, Blizzard is at the forefront of the industry.. Hence why I actually decided to preorder it, when that is a extreme, extreme rarity for me.

I predict a solid 8, but it will be a game that outlives many 9-10s... and a better cult following. Not releasing with ranked mode, and having such limited modes for an FPS game (especially a PC focused one) is review suicide. But the game itself is a blast and no doubt Blizzard will add pleanty.... in their own slow way.

They are probably going to go the route of HOTS and Diablo in which they have seasons.. So at release it will be pre-season, and they will make the official season start off a little while after release.

To add to this.

The ranked mode that was in the closed beta, was a copy of Hearthstones "Casual" competitive ranked mode... suited a card game well, but not a shooter, the community rightly complained/feedbacked that the system was not good especially if seasons are short (1 month). People want the standard ELO system found in most other competitive games (CS:GO/League/DOTA etc)... so they are taking the time to re-do it now.

Who knows what we will get, but its coming "shortly after release" ... so I imagine "Season 1" of ranked/competitive play with start 2-4 weeks after launch... but its just a guess. Not a bad thing for me, need more time to practice and actually get some teamates going..

Knowing Blizzard they will heavily overhaul the game several times through it's life span which they basically have done with all their games.. If there is a game in which you can call a investment, its Blizzard due to the fact they develop and support their games that basically rival any dev in the industry with post release development.

Ill say 9. Game looks like a lot of fun, and my friends had good things to say about the beta.

Playing the beta was fun but the no single player is kinda of a letdown for me. I mean, if anything it shows FPS's in the future are all going to lack single player modes and just go for straight multiplayer only. That kind of kills a game for a lot of people who aren't into multiplayer, and there's a lot of those. I can admit that I gave Destiny a pass and I find that game to be fun when I'm playing with my friends, even then I still want single player at least when it comes to FPS and there's a reason why I pick Doom, for single player only.

Having said that, I'll get Overwatch in the future but not at launch and I'm giving Overwatch a 9/10 only because it's unique in it's own way.

9/10. The beta was a blast and I'll be playing the fvck outta this until the big rush of fall games.

I think its a 9 based on my time with the beta. Gamespot will probably give it an 8 so that is my 'official' bet.

I haven't been this excited for a multiplayer shooter since Team Fortress 2. When that game was ruined by Valve there was a void I've wanted filled and Overwatch does it quite nicely. Can see myself putting a couple hundred hours into it easy.

If Titanfall can get an 9/10 here without a campaign, I don't see why overwatch wouldn't.

I do wish there was some sort of co-op campaign.

Personally I was underwhelmed by the beta so I won't be picking this up at launch. Maybe down the line once it's more fleshed out and maybe has more characters and game modes.

It's 40 bucks.

still too expensive, should be 15 bucks for no SP campaign.

I would be so over this game if it wasn't for Dark Souls 3. Still, $40 is too much for what's offered. $29.99 would be a better price tag.
