One year later, was Link Between Worlds deserving of GOTY?

I think 2013 is considered a pretty solid year in gaming, with the last generation ending on strong notes thanks to The Last of Us, GTA V, and more. The PC had plenty of support, we saw higher fidelity on consoles than ever before thanks to the PS4 and Xbox One, the Vita had some games including the best one of 2013, Tearaway, and then there's the 3DS.

Highly overrated by the few sheep we have on this forum because suddenly Fire Emblem Awakening and SMT IV were respectable entries in their franchises, Animal Crossing wasn't a chore, and Luigi's Mansion wasn't cancer. But there was one superb game on that system that year, one game that got the 3DS its one AAA on GameSpot, one game that went all the way to show handheld games could win GOTY too.

That game was Link Between Worlds. GameSpot loved it and so did I. Brisk gameplay, well paced dungeons, and very little Zelda filler. It wasn't my GOTY but I have no issues with it winning. Truly great game.

Also Wind Waker is shitty.

well the major competition was Last of Us and GTA5. Not much difficulty there, and LBW was a lot less safe too. LBW changed up the Zelda formula quite a bit, making a game that was not very elegant in the process but more fun imo.

I would have probably given it to GTA5 though, but that and LBW were my favorite games that year.

Hell fu**-in no, it's not even the best 3DS game that year (the award goes to Fire Emblem)
I still think the reason why GS chose Zelda is because TLOU already flopped here and GTA V according to GS are mysognistic
When I think of it, both TLOU and GTA V are two of the worst review I ever read in GS

My GOTY 2013 is still The Last of Us, the way it always talked about in gaming community I think proves the game is truly a masterpiece.

Definitely. I just beat it on Hero mode the other day and it still holds up and is as great as the first day I turned it on. Easily GOTY and beats everything it went up against except for maybe SM3DW.

Im not a Zelda fanatic, so I would say no. The Zelda fans (and I am talking about fans, not fanboys and fangirls) had something to play, so I am happy for them.

I have no problem with it winning. It was a great game. It's still a great game. Just played through it again a few weeks ago.

It was an excellent choice just for the butthurt it caused.

The fact it was also an excellent, if flawed game was just icing on the cake.

Yes, and much more deserving than Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor was. And Wind Waker is great, superb, excellent, fantastic, breath-taking, awesome, grand, terrific etc.

Although everyone knows GS failed with their TLOU review and thus they couldn not give GOTY to the TLOU.

Anyway does not change the fact that TLOU is the best game of last gen aka the citizen kane of gaming.

The citizen Kane of gaming? There have been games that told a better story without the usual cliches. Hell I would even argue that Fallout 3 told a better overall story than TLOU. The best part about TLOU were the main characters and how they interacted together.

Have you actually watched Citizen Kane? And understand why it's considered the best film of all time?

3DS has one AAA game on GameSpot and a bunch of gimped sequels.

I have never said Borderlands is a good series.

SotC is the best game ever and is highly regarded industry wide.

Wind Waker is a bad 3D Zelda in a series full of bad 3D Zelda. Tell me what's good about it.

Haven't play TLOU yet so I don't really care, I'm just uncomfortable that you are using Citizen Kane to describe something what I see as completely opposite of what Citizen Kane achieved.

@freedomfreak: I know the feeling with the series. I'm finishing Wind Waker HD basically because I dropped $30 on it and I like the art style. The game refuses to do anything actually good and the dungeons are mind numbingly dull.
