I am happy with 8GB and 5 billion transistors right now. I don't want an overload of transistors in my house like I did in '98.
Massive cards, portable with a cult following, and a positively reviewed tablet. With Nvidia getting the pass on console hardware and having such a respected name in the industry, I don't understand why they do not enter the console market. Unlike the other card manufacturers and custom pc builders Nvidia also has brand recognition. They could be serious competition for Playstation and Xbox.
Bet that like teh rest of teh Titan series, it won't be that great for gaming.
Best to hold for Pascal
11.5gb .... DAMMIT IM TOO LATE.
Peasants shall bow down. Their puny 8gb overall cant compete with 12gb of DEDICATED vram let alone the system ram.

@Heirren: I thought they are making a console with Android.
I mean a real solid console in a more traditional sense. The two on the market are sooooo under powered. Nvidia could release a product and I think people would eat it up. It is good timing, as well. Releasing sooner rather than later doesn't give sony/ms the ability to counter with a competing product. Build up a following like MS did with the original xbox.
@Heirren: what would they offer though? popping a console out and slapping the nvidia logo onto it wont sell a lot of consoles. even if they make it very powerful will that make a big difference?
sure it would have all the 3rd party support but nvidia lack their own OS, their own online gaming service and dont have a first party development team. they also dont have an X86 license so the CPU would have to be power PC based (dead end), ARM based (maybe) or they would need to license an X86 CPU from somewhere (fat chance). it cost MS a billion dillars to get their foot in the door.
imho if they want to get in on the console action then they need to make a very strong case for one of the big 3 to use their hardware. they didnt pull it off this gen for whatever reason so they need to look at why they didn't get picked.
i think they could make a strong case for nintendo to use them IF they are willing to get the price right. nvidia have hardware that can work great in desktops, laptops and tablets and its all essentially the same hardware. i suspect nintendos next console will be a much more powerful version of its next handheld (so ARM based on the CPU side, TBD on the GPU side) but it will essentially be the same hardware. nvidia can offer a hardware platform that could make life easier for nintendo to create their common platform and make it easier to share tech and assets between all their next gen devices.
grid+ could also be of interest to nintendo and having it available on nintendos platforms would be of interest to nvidia (the more places they can put that the better for them). it mostly solves nintendos 3rd party problem and whats good for nintendo becomes good for nvidia.
but they need to be more flexible in the hardware they are willing to design and the T&Cs. MS got badly burned by nvidia with the first xbox. i dont know whether this was due to MS thinking it would be better to just license the hardware design instead of own it or whether nvidia insisted on only licensing hardware instead of selling a hardware design.

Why would a massively successful GPU manufacturer go into something with such massive buy-in costs, obvious risk and a questionable future?
I don't think there will be another console manufacturer in the "traditional" sense.
@Cobra_nVidia: @osan0:
There's a whole in the market. In a different discussion it was brought to my attention that not everyone owns a desktop, as I suggested console sales would peak sooner than usual--with people venturing over to pc because of the benefits it offers. Well, it is the truth. Buying a console vs buying a pc is like comparing apples to oranges(this is not about console vs pc/or price of building, etc).
The whole revolves some simple matters. What is a console lacking? A mouse and a keyboard. Keep the controller, but start the brand standard with a ms/keyboard to go along with it. This opens up a plethora of genres and experiences that are not available on consoles. It also gives the ability to market the machine as a true all-in-one.
Just my luck. I'm putting all my extra cash into building a new house right now.
Maybe I can cut a bedroom and get 3 of these instead.
@Heirren: Nvidia would never enter the traditional console market. That would require them to sell the hardware at a loss. Why do that when you sell gpus for a profit? It would cut into sales of there gpu market which would be foolish.
I think that as well, and assumed it may be the reason they don't. However, the videogame industry is the biggest entertainment industry in the world. Getting a stake in it and properly using it to your advantage can build profit from more than just hardware/accessories/software.
Can someone please explain to me the benefit of a card like this for single monitor uses? Is it just for future proofing? Is there any games that will be developed to take advantage of that card? Can this card run current games at 4K/60fps with medium to high settings?
@Heirren: I thought they are making a console with Android.
It is more like a streaming Television device that can also play games. It wasn't built for the current console crowd, it was made for all those casuals who stopped buying consoles after the original Wii.
But they'll make a far cheaper and better card soon after this thing. Didn't anyone learn from Titan?
@emgesp: A card like this would be helpful for both 4K and VR gaming. It's obviously overkill if you just want to play a game at 1080p/60.
@emgesp: it's not meant for single monitor users....
I was actually thinking about this before I saw your comment. Like what would I have to do to make use of that 12GB of RAM. 3 monitors at super high res? Idk. I don't think people in general get, that the graphics card you choose also depends on how you're going to use it.
For a single monitor at 1080p, a 2GB 960 (or hopefully if a 960Ti comes) could well do the job for you. Right now I'm pretty happy with my 750Ti, it's surprisingly capable on a single monitor. A 980 for me might be too much, as I game on a single monitor at 1080p.
@HalcyonScarlet: the Titan brand is aimed at that "prosumer" market. It's designed to excel at compute simulations. It's there to bridge the gap between the Quadro brand and the GeForce brand. Before the Titan was launched you either had to buy a super expensive Quadro card or buy a GeForce card and then bodge the firmware which didn't always work.
To call the Titan line a pure gaming brand isn't strictly correct. Yes they market it as a high end gamer card but its actually there for people who want to game as well as do some heavy compute simulations and other stuff like that.

Ah, didn't know that. Makes sense, there's a lot more people in between professional and consumer these days.

There aren't any games currently available that dips below 60fps for 980ti at 1080p ?
You only need one kidney to live right?...
I'm willing to sell both lol.
what happens when the titan omega (lol just a random name) comes out, what would you sell then? :P
The human being is blessed with many pairs of organs :P
*quivers* If I didn't have a kid soaking up that disposable income ...
Dang kids! *shakes fist at the heavens*
