Damn, I want that Shield controller.

Entice me with games and a proper account system with trophies and all and I'll see.

I need a tablet so I may look into this.

What OS is this thing going to be running?

#6 Edited by remiks00 (1693 posts) -

That's a nice looking controller. I've been wanting a tablet for a while now. Thought about the Nexus 7. But this Nvidia tablet has my attention.

Android.

Of course it has a proper account system, it's running Android.

lolTrophies (or Achievements, or any of that shit, really)

Oh wow, that is some serious tech in that tablet. Starting at $300, eh? Not bad. Not bad at all...

#9 Posted by remiks00 (1693 posts) -

I think it was a smart move by Nvidia to separate the controller from the tablet this time. This way, you can still use the screen as a tablet when needed. It was too awkward trying to use the original Shield as tablet, from the reviews I saw.

Damn, I want that Shield controller.

Its nice that the sticks are symetrical.... never understood asymetrical stick placement when your hands are symetrical. I hate using my 360 pc pad because of it, but DS3 tool is too much of a pain in the ass.

As for the tablet...does it use andriod? What games are for it? I am not going to stream pc games as the ones i usually play are complex strategy games that would be bad without keyboard /mouse. Oh and I already own a vita , 3ds and an Ipad mini. Wife would have a fit if I bought a 4th mobile gaming device..lol

I can only ask "Why?"

damn, i dont have a intel pc (i have AMD) so i wont be able to take advantage of all the cool features (streaming etc) -__-

Well, I think both the Sony and Microsoft approach to controllers have their merits- I don't see why Sony insists on having the D-pad be in the position of the primary input on the controller, and I don't see why Microsoft goes for an asymmetric layout. Although to be honest, if I had to pick one, I would pick Microsoft's approach. (one of the reasons I am intrigued by the Wii U Pro is because it seems to be the perfect marriage of the Sony and Microsoft layouts).

As for this tablet, it is running Android (although I expect it will have the same kind of Steam intercompatibility that the original Nvidia Shield also had). It looks pretty cool, tbh, but like you, I own too many portable gaming devices to buy this as well :p

I wonder if the controller works on PC..

All for an emulator machine.

@NVIDIATI I have to ask what Is your favorite game. And why the hell are you so into mobile gaming?

#17 Posted by R4gn4r0k (16294 posts) -

Don't see the point in this. Where exactly would you use this ?

at home ? Better of gaming on a large TV screen instead of a tablet.

Outside ? Doesn't look that convenient to use

Very nice specs for the money. Might have to keep an eye on this.

Dumb

#21 Posted by osirisx3 (1756 posts) -

mobile as no games to take advantage of it. Seems like a huge waste of money.

all those ponies with no room to Gallup

So it's a DX11 class GPU with power a bit above Xbox 360? So a HD 6550 in a tablet? Meh..

#23 Posted by RimacBugatti (1191 posts) -

@NVIDIATI: Now I was wanting a gaming tablet. That's a reasonable price. But will that GPU be able to handle demanding games? Something tells me that GPU might not be that powerful. Would you say the tablet runs alongside the PS4's performance?

Normal android or some modified version like what the kindle fire is running? If it is the normal android like what is on other tablets/smartphones, then I am interested.

All for an emulator machine.

But imagine once Dolphin is fully developed.. On a mobile device!

#26 Posted by Elaisse2 (23 posts) -

Wow it can do more functions then the current consoles.

Normal Android, probably stock Android, actually.

To stream a limited number of console ports from your home PC to a tablet screen, so you can play them with a controller.

Sounds like a good idea?

When there are TVs in home where I could stream too ? Not really =/

I'm sure this is a good alternative for some people. And I'm sure the 'shield' product line is doing well for some reason, because they keep making new products

Bingo. I like mobile games but know there are 0 games out there that take advantage of even half of this hardware. It's a waste.

#38 Posted by bigblunt537 (6821 posts) -

Sucks that it is only 1080p. Thought it would at least have a 2560x1600 resolution. Now I have a tough choice. Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 or this Shield? This has better performance, but I'd def like the huge resolution bump of the Pro 4.

#39 Posted by svaubel (2442 posts) -

Seems pointless, there are no mobile games that even take advantage of current flagship tablets and smartphones power.

#40 Posted by AdolescentDon (9079 posts) -

Because I want to play games on a tablet screen with a controller? Whats the point? Really?

#41 Edited by Heirren (16488 posts) -

I heard these rumors. I thought the original Shield was a decent design--compact and well built. Not sure how I feel about this tablet. Specs look great of course. I don't see a usb port, though. I wonder if that makes it difficult to sync dualshocks to the tablet, as that shield controller loooooooooooooooooooooookkkks......eh? Either way I think I'm buying it.
