Hardware sales dropped 37% while total retail spend dropped from $1 billion to $755.5 million.

There were a few exceptions to the decline trend.Skylanders: Giantssold over 160% more units than last yearsSkylanderstitle did in its debut month andNBA 2K12outsold last years game by 60%. Meanwhile,FIFA Soccer 13saw an increase of 13% as compared to its predecessor. However, these games alone werent enough to offset the decline of the retail console software market.

Sales of portable software, however, were up 37% as compared to last year, owing to the release ofPokémon Black/White 2.

Top ten games:

1. NBA 2K13
2. Resident Evil 6
3. Pokemon Black 2
4. Dishonored (460,200)
5. Pokemon White 2
6. Madden NFL 13
7. FIFA Soccer 13
8. Medal of Honor: Warfighter
9. Borderlands 2
10. Skylanders Giants

Other notes:

XCOM sold 114k (but Take-Two commented that it was a commercial success, so it probably did very well in digital sales)

The 360 sold 270k

Nice numbers for Dishonored.:)

Nothing else about Pokemon so far outside of the fact that portable software were up 37% higher compare to last year thanks to it.

It's almost been 2 years since the wii or ps3 has even sniffed the top spot. That's a reason to celebrate. Good job MS. I'm going to turn on my Kinect and hopefully Major Nelson can see me pi$$ on my dualshock 3.

The 360 captured 56 % of console marketshare and had more sales of software and accessories than Nintendo and sony combined...6 out of 10 top ten titles also ,,New ps3 slim am flopped confirmed

This should be the last month with the 360 on top, seeing as the Wii U lanches soon. Oh, and the looks like Horizon bombed.

Since 360 = 56% market share, then PS3+ Wii= 212k.

Same with Pokemon.

Fundamental difference is that one released 5 days before October and the other a whole month before it.

Regardless, for a country that "apparently" doesn´t care about the sport is still pretty amusing. :P

Sure...15 years ago. It's considered one of the most stagnant and recycled series in gaming. It is the same thing reskinned year after year. I've heard the argument that every generation has their own version of pokemon, but my God, it's the same people buying it year in, year out.

True. From what I've read, soccer is increasing in popularity. Not so much at the professional level, but little league's (or whatever the soccer equivalent is) are getting higher enrollments each and every year.

I personally can't watch it. It is boring as all hell, but playing it is fun and soccer games are actually pretty fun...even if I don't really care about the leagues.

this generation is losing steam, not saying I'm displeased with the games we got in October I actually liked many of them and even ones people didn't like but commercially it's winding down... this might end up being the perfect time for the Wii U to be launching, gamers probably have money to burn and Nintendo's coming in at just the right time

But on that note I really disliked BW2, very much a let down. I think the sales reflect that people feel the same way too.

I wonder what the difference in sales was between the PC version of XCOM, and the consoles.

I can see the game doing incredibly well on the PC, but not so much consoles.

I don't think I have revealed or shared any of my personal opinions on the series. If you don't feel the series copies heavily from its predecessor, more so than 95% of games, then that is fine by me. I think anyone who has played the games objectively can tell that the games feel like they could have been released 6 weeks after, not 2 years.

Actually it didn't bomb. The game came out in on the 28th, but NPD stopped tracking on the 27th. All theses sales are from street broken copies, so we won't know the real sales until December.

No it is not irrelevant. Unless you have played a Pokemon game in, I don't know, the last decade, you're not in the least bit qualified to make any comment about the games. I could go and list how the games experience a plethora of changes with every installment, but you would just dismiss it. So which was the last Pokemon game you played?

Nope, personal experience doesn't make my word anymore or less a statement of truth. This, after all, is system wars...a forum that revolves around predictions, hype, and approximations. You're right, I haven't played a pokemon game in about a decade. I also haven't played a Call of Duty in a long time. I still know the game is essentially the same from one iteration to the next. Could I be wrong about pokemon? Sure, but nothing that I have seen leads me to believe these games (which release almost yearly now), differ enough to drop my claim.

#45 Posted by senses_fail_06 (6739 posts) -

My personal experience wouldn't change whether or not my claim is correct, therefore it has no relevance. In my last post, I admitted I haven't touched a pokemon game in years. That's what he wanted, and that's what I gave him. No one has actually challenged the claim.

Without actually playing the game you can only go off of assumptions. Your case is stronger when you actually have the experience to back up your argument.

Well, since you haven't played the games, I can tell you that a) You aren't eligible to comment on the games b) The games have experienced numerous changes over the last decade. Like I said, I could list them all for you
