I don't get the comparison.

Nintendo is the best publisher/developer in the industry. Comparing them to a single mediocre franchise is insulting.
Definitely not Sony.
Sony >>>>>>>>>> Call of Duty/Nintendo/Microsoft
Sony>Nintendo/Microsoft/Valve/Blizzard.
There I said it.
If we are talking literally, I don't see how the Mushroom Kingdom could defend itself from the rabid pitiful world of Call of Duty
Nintendo games, given that I like a grand total of 2 CoD games(1 and 4) I'd rather take my chances with Nintendo than CoD going forward.
But since I'm assuming the comparison is about which one is more safe with each outing(kind of a little unfair since Nintendo is multiple franchises, so you gotta think at least one of them won't stick to the status quo), um Nintendo is more offense. On the premise that they get put on a pedestal of excellence, that they rarely ever live up to.
Good points. Especially when comparing the games directly. There's like no contest at all.
I wanna add another layer. The impact that Call of Duty, and the overall shooter market, has created in gaming. Is this popular micro-culture a missed opportunity for Nintendo? I truly believe they can strive without it, and will, but shooters with in depth online options is da future, lol. And the world will gravitate to the likes of Destiny, COD, and BF because more core gamers enjoy killing shit I guess.
It's hard for a company to keep casuals on their side, despite whatever you put in their face, unless you're Apple. Nintendo couldn't keep them aboard. Is it partly due to having a weak shooter environment that both core and mainstream gamers enjoy? The mainstream consumer is like a fair-weather friend, they come and go depending on the climate. Now, I don't want to see FPS Mario, just some new scope with that unmatched Nintendo charm and creativity.
Anyways, just wanted to express a point a tad deeper than game-to-game comparison, heh. It's kind of a weird comparison to begin with.
