Nintendo skipping E3 again. Ahead of the curve?

#1 Posted by drekula2 (1880 posts) -

Much of the conference standards of E3 are tradition.

E3 was great for 2005 when there was no viral social networking, convenient internet stream. Journalists had to go to events write articles and post screen shots.

Today, it's simple to just post the footage online and watch it disseminate like wildfire. Nintendo can straight cut out the middleman.

E3 is good for actual gameplay where journalists can try a game hands-on, but aside from that conferences aren't neccesary?

They have the biggest show room floor and they're having multiple events going on with The Digital Event, Treehouse talks and the Smash Bros. Invitational.

Saying they are "Skipping" E3 is an extreme oversight.

Please ban yourself TC.

E3 is first and foremost the single most important place for developers and publishers to meet face to face and make deals.

Everything else is a sideshow to that primary purpose.

they only have like 3 exclusive games and hardly any 3rd party games... The Wii U is fucked.

Way to be completely off topic.

Uhh... No.

  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • The Legend of Zelda Wii U
  • X
  • Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
  • Yoshi's Land
  • Hyrule Warriors
  • Bayonetta 2

I'm not sure if they're "ahead of the curve" but, in a way, streaming a pre-recorded and properly presented video and using the actual E3 physical space for other stuff does make sense. You avoid crap lke the whole Skyward Sword's controls fiasco from E3 2011 and you still reach your Internet audience and give them all the info avoiding all the weird, unexpected stuff that comes with a live event.

Of course, you do miss out on all the cool, spontaneus stuff that comes with all the weirdness, like all the "my body is ready" moments, but it's safe, it's effective and it's not, by any means, a bad a idea.

After that lackluster Sony conference the ball is literally in Nintendo's court right now. They just need to deliver tomorrow.

yep. e3 is overrated as fuck, pretty much everything gets leaked before hand. better to just release a vid like ninty does and not go through the hassle of e3

I hope they have a release date for Project X.

Nintendo's live conferences would give me goosebumps at times. The audience cheers over Zelda and going outrageous for their games.

At least we will not have to sit there and listen to the filler from suits that was on dispaly at the Sony conference tonight. What a fucking snoozer.

Skipping a public PC is not ahead of the curve. It's a dumb move, I don't care what people say. They're delusional if they don't think Nintendo forgoing a public presentation isn't harming them further.

I agree with you. It is known that the sales volume of Wii U is very low compared with the Wii

All nintendo has to do is show a 3 second trailer with hand wearing a brown glove holding the master sword, and they can easily beat all the conferences held yesterday.

they showed that 3 years ago...and still fail.

They have a Direct, and are on the show floor. That isn't skipping E3.
