What ever happend to the gameboy. It just disapeared into nowhere when the ds came out. I think they should have called the 3DS the super gameboy advace 5000. The gameboy was a trademark name known the world over. The name itself had to be priceless to Nintendo. Just the name gameboy would sell units. Why did nintendo ever ditch that little guy? :|

They had to go after a different market and the same market at the same time, the GB brand couldn't do that.

If you think about it, the GameBoy name is something that could've only originated in the 80s and 90s. :P Sounds just so silly.

But the GB's time has come and gone. The DS and 3DS are here to stay and build on what the old GB started.

Nah, Game Boy represented the 2D handheld era. It's true the DS was originally supposed to be the "third console", but it succeeded and replaced the Game Boy line. What 3DS needs are more quality games, not a renaming.

Well when the DS came out, they said it was the third pillar, and that the Game Boy brand would still exist. It's sad to see it gone, because both the name and games on those systems were better.

When it came out they said the DS wasn't replacing the GBA, the Game Boy brand was meant to be for traditional gamers and the DS for casuals which was their own words pretty much. Then the DS started selling like crazy and they killed the GBA. But whatever.

Sort of, in terms of clamshell design. The PSP is just a more traditional design. The DS was designed to attract consumers, much like the Wii, by including a different input type and adding in another screen. The Vita will be somewhat of a mix of these two. It wont have the 2nd screen, but you can play uncharted by using the back panel to climb up ladders or some such nonsense. At least it'll finally be able to emulate L2 R2 though.

Based by the looks, you could easily say that PSP is "Game Gear 2":

Interstingly the GG was considerably stronger than the GB, much like PSP is considerably stronger than the DS.

The reality is the GB has evolved into the DS. Both are portable handhelds and both have been extremely successful. I hate the reality of it and I really do wish the GB line was still alive today, but that's what it is, really.

Sorry to say this, but that's actually Nostaligia talking to you and blinding you.

The DS/3DS IS the Nintendo Gameboy.

Nothing of it has changed except for the obvious gameplay changes because of the Buttons and Touch Screen.

Huh ... All they said was they wanted to reach a new audience, along with the one they already had. Using the name "Gameboy" alienates a rather large part of their audience. What is this silliness about one being for casuals and one being for traditional gamers? Please.

Did it sound "dorky and lame" 10 years ago? Why is it when some time goes by that people all of sudden think what was cool is now lame? Never understand the human race.
