Who would you want them to buy?

who can they buy ? besides maybe sega....
They wouldn't even buy Atlus, let alone all of Sega, i think they are thinking more along the lines of Platinum Games and/or smaller publishers.

Well it does say merge too so i see sega as a possibility. As for Atuls i don't see much of their influence in their games aside for a few in the 3DS for Nintendo.
I'm thinking of Platinum Games. They're already making Wii-U exclusives, and they're becoming closer to Nintendo. Wouldn't be surprised to see that after Nintendo buys them we see ports of their games come to the Wii-U, along with sequels to those games.

Let's not pretend their recent trouble means they're sitting beside Sony at the soup kitchen.
They have the cash reserves to weather 3 more Wii Us before they're in trouble.
It's funny. Everyone says Sega but other than the new Sonic titles and Atlus' Wii-U crossover and 3DS titles, Sega seems to be getting into bed more with Sony than Nintendo.
They should probably buy stock in Namco-Bandai since they've been helping Nintendo transition to the HD era much easier. Platinum Games would be a neat purchase but honestly, their games don't sell. Sure, the internet sets on fire when Bayonetta 2 is announced as Wii-U exclusive but as soon as it releases, I'm predicting 9,000 sales in its opening week sadly.
Can't really think of anyone that would really be a system seller for Nintendo though other than Nintendo. They have Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart/Party, Smash Bros. etc. Just for now focus more on second-party support and much better marketing than purchasing studios left and right just to say, "Nyeh, nyeh, now they're ours."
Also, not saying this would triple sales or anything but it would gain plenty of respect back, drop the friggin' region locks! It's a ridiculous, outdated feature of the Wii-U. Nintendo's doing a good job of localizing their titles but plenty of games like Disaster: Day of Crisis, Fatal Frame 4, Fatal Frame 2 Remake, etc. are stuck in Japan with little to no chance of being localized. Just drop the region locks and let fan translations happen if you have no interest in ever localizing these games.
Would be smart buys imo

According to Kamiya, as much as they do like working with Ninty, don't even WANT to be bought by even them.
Also, to those saying SEGA and Capcom. That would cause quite an uproar, which Nintendo is trying hard to avoid more of. SEGA has backing of many PC gamers and considering Capcom's fighting games are popular on other consoles more so than Nintendo's. Oh boy...
It would be nice if they bought a couple of smaller studios that are capable of making some great games. Would help their release schedule not be so damn barren
Mmm, I'd rather see them buy up some existing IPs and then staff up some new internal studios to develop them.
I don't want them to buy any studio. I never support the hardware to the point of encouraging aquisitions that will only lead to more exclusives. I wan't them to negotiate with all the top publishers for multiplatform titles. So that everyone can play whatever. I'm a gamer, not a System Whore.
Nintendo buys Capcom
Platinum Games
Sega (which includes atlus)
=
large part of Japanese gamers ditching PS4 for Wii-U.
Hopefully not some Japanese studio... Nintendo problem is too much eastern developers and not enough from the west. Nintendo have mised the boat several times for instance with franchises like Darksiders which is the better mans Zelda. Capcom has destroyed most of its franchises worth giving a damn about, Sega are on consoles, pcs and probably have more system sellers than nintendo and are on a roll as of late, Namco has tekken and that is it, EA are to big of a company, Ubisoft are to big of a company.
Hmmmm..... Indies onry realy
SCE LOL jk
The internet would EXPLODE with rage
And they wouldn't Capcom or SEGA?
The Way Capcom has been going lately and with Sega's working with Nintendo already, I honestly don't think they would. Well they would for Sega now because they acquired Atlus but most probably would care about Capcom as of late. It certainly would be as big of an outburst as if they bought SCE, that's for certain.
There would be protestors at all of Nintendo's HQ's with Pitchforks, Tar and Feathers if Nintendo ever purchased SCE
Nintendo needs to buy a western dev cause that is most of the gaming market. Frankly I can't see Nintendo buying a western dev that makes m-rated games. I also can't see Nintendo dumping money into their online network. I can't see Nintendo having blu-ray play back for example.
When you think of Nintendo you think of what they don't have vs the other consoles. The only reason to but a Nintendo console is for a couple games per year. The rest of the time the console is not good for anything else but netflix maybe and that is on the other consoles.
merger is interesting. perhaps they are thinking to buy devs with the intent to merge into bigger studios. difficult to manage though.
as for merging with another company like apple or disney...thats a bit harder to see. if anything those companies would buy nintendo outright rather than merge.
a sega/nintendo merger would make no sense for sega. most of their success comes from non nintendo platforms.
they certainly do need more developers though. the lending of popular characters to third parties can lead to some success (soul caliber 2 on the gamecube for example) but its not something to actually bank on. they need more developers working on nintendo platforms and the best way to do that is to buy developers.
they should be looking to europe (eastern europe especially) and the US. some chinese and south korean developers also wouldnt hurt (more variety).
they should also focus on getting developers that make games that nintendo themselves do not make (racing sims, space sims, flight sims, RTS, open world RPG, FPSs and so on). if they can dig up developers that are making games like project offset (sadly a ruse on the internets part) then that will make people sit up and take notice.
I say they should focus on where they are weakest in their software and that is in the West.
They should acquire Zenimax or CryTek. Both have multiple first person IPs and both have engines which Nintendo could utilize in their games and make available to third parties for free.

Oh, hell no! I agree they need more western support, but not by buying those guys (and this comes from someone who, at the very least, likes two Bethesda games).
I think this is related to the non-game part of Nintendo's future. Sega is way too big with useless IPs and not much talent to speak of and Atlus is way too niche/out there to even be considered. The best course of action is to initiate partnerships with these companies (SMT X FE, Mario & Sonic) and not outright buying them.
Platinum is more like it but based on Minami's comments last year it feels like they will try abit longer as an independent dev. Once they're out of work and people are tired of Metal Gear spinoffs maybe this idea will become relevant.
'Acquiring' Next Level Games was probably more of a spontaneous move due to the huge success of LM2, as opposed to Nintendo actively looking to buy traditional game studios.
