Nintendo will not be revealing new hardware at E3, the company has confirmed to CVG.

On Thursday reports emerged suggesting the corporation would announce a new platform, or a new iteration of a current platform, during the Los Angeles games event.

CVG

So there will be no new Nintendo handheld or console at E3 this year. Looks like they will double down on 3DS and Wii U.

Told ya. It's going to be a hardware revision for the 3DS XL. Making it lighter/thinner and extending battery life. Price cut will also be announced. Calling it now!

A revision would also be new hardware.

So,

A)Nintendo earned all money with Wii and now they are too greedy to share it and make new console and new exclusive games

B)Nintendo wasted all their money what they earned with Wii and now they have no money to make new console and new games.

I sure hope so. Don't look too good from where I'm standing. If MK8, and Smash Don't do it, then nothing will(Zelda, Metroid, DK don't sell too well).

For the last year or so it seems all their Direct's focus on 3DS and nothing new for the WiiU.

Usually this means that Nintendo really is going to show off new hardware, when leaks and rumors come out, they always deny about it until the upcoming weeks of e3.

Makes you wonder. With all the 2D platformers they made they certainly didn't spend a lot of money making games on the Wii or on the Wii U.

Good, they need to focus on software not hardware. The answer to the Wii U's problems isn't in a new system. It's in games.

That stinks but I was skeptical they'd announce new hardware without a proper conference. Seems like something you'd like to have journalists get a hands on with ASAP.

its the appeal. PS4 has zero games on it and ppl are buying it. Nintendo need to give up on the bs "family only" schtick and make it a "for everyone" console instead. Then introduce games that caters to those crowds and not just the nintendo hopefuls

Not me. Nintendo needs to concentrate on the hardware they have.

3DS is doing well now and they need to go all-in to turn the WiiU weak launch around as well. And that means more games, more marketing, more courting of third party.

Another system, with worst case scenario, another bad launch like 3DS and Wii U had and Nintendo would've been way worse off.

Why would or should they create another handheld? Abandoning the 3DS and Wii U this early would do horrible damage to their reputation of supporting their console. If they were going to announce a new handheld or console then I imagine developers would have leaked that info much earlier. If they were to abandon anything, I imagine it'll be the Wii U, after all it's 3DS sales that negate the losses on supporting the Wii U.

The 3DS is doing pretty good so far, selling about 14 million a year the first three years, and currently is the 2nd best selling piece of hardware worldwide after the PS4, and 3rd best for selling software behind the PS3 and Xbox 360; why would Nintendo give that up? Sure the DS sold better, but it was a phenomenal success, it would be hard to match that success. The DS had numerous factors that supported it, such as the success of the Wii paralleling the success of the DS and promoting strong name brand recognition and support, and new models help driving sales further with introduction of the DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, and hell even new colors caused people to get a second or third DS. Nintendo skipped 3 steps and went straight to the 3DS XL, which probably hurt their milkage ability of their consumer base, and they don't have the parallel name brand support with the Wii U to help it, but all and all I think the 3DS is performing pretty good on its own. If they can sustain their annual sales trend for another 4 years they'll break over 100 million, which is pretty good, not DS good but still pretty good.

As for dropping the Wii U, I see that as more likely, but I don't see that happening at least until after two more attempts seeing if they get a spike during the holiday shopping season. I think Nintendo should stick it out on the console end, focus instead on getting third party support. The N64 and GameCube only lasted about 5 years selling 32 million and 22 million respectably. This is the territory I feel the Wii U is in, and like the others I think they'll support it at least to a decent life span.

True, I've given up on nintendo setting the world ablaze with the WiiU, but they can compete.

Franchise they need to bring to the WiiU:

  • Fire Emblem
  • Zelda
  • Metroid
  • Punch Out!
  • Kirby
  • Dragon Quest (wheres X?)
  • Advance Wars
  • Pokemon NFC based game(like skylanders, infinity)
  • Mario Galaxy 3
  • Mario Strikers
  • Animal Crossing
  • Sin & Punishment
  • Mario Sluggers
  • Golden Sun
  • Custom Robo Arena

They even have the cast to pull off spinoff of their major franchise. A new ip catering to the "hardcore" wouldn't hurt either.

They still have to make the best with what they have. Can't go around burning bridges with their fans that supported the wiiu. They need to ride this out. They have the ip to do it, but it's taking them a lot to get going. Maybe next gen they could go for more power.

I never believed that rumor, was it a day ago that is was posted?

I believe it when I see it and this particular rumor seemed too unlikely with sketchy logic and poor timing to release new hardware.

This is a PR statement though, and I take those with a grain of salt as well.

lol just like they said 'no new hardware' right before they revealed ds lite (or was it xl i dont know)

but this time i think they could be telling the truth because they are banking hard on mk8 so if there was a hardware revision u would think the time to release it would be alongside mk8

I don't think they need new hardware. They need to sort themselves out and their internal issues. That would bring significantly better results than a new platform for them to struggle with right now. There is nothing wrong with the 3DS and Wii U. It's Nintendo that are steering the ship.

The first thing I'd do if I was Nintendo is admit I have competition and that I need to do things to compete with them. The first thing that needs to go is the 'My way or the highway' attitude.

I agree with many of the posters here. I think the wii u and 3ds have a lot of life ahead of them. It would be a mistake to announce new hardware.

i remember someone at NOE saying that there was no DS due...nothing in the pipe.

the next day the DSLite was announced. that was fun :P.

any new hardware, if it does happen, will be on the handheld side though (or this QOS stuff). the original 3DS model is due a Lite version now....i wouldnt be surprised to see it.
