So whats the info / rumors on the next Xbox's CPU? Ive seen 8 core x86-64 ISA. Will it be from AMD or Intel? If microsoft is smart theyll go with Intel, they don't call it wintel for nothing

Yeah I know
Both Microsoft and Sony are supposedly using the exact same CPU actually, a 4 core / 8 module jaguar core at 1.6ghz. Â
Â
That is a decent choice if true. Â Jaguar should have better than STARS IPC for SIMD (about 2x for FPU) (STARS is old K8.5 architecture). Â The biggest thing is very low power (15W or so) which is huge. Â

AMD Jaguar CU (compute unit) comes with four CPU cores. http://forwardthinking.pcmag.com/none/302141-intel-and-amd-faceoff-at-hot-chips-12
A two Jaguar CU would result a 8 core config.
AMD Jaguar doesn't follow AMD Bulldozer/Piledriver's "dual core per module" model.
From http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08/29/amd_jaguar_core_design/ AMD Jaguar's 128bit FPU is "double pumped" i.e. 1.6Ghz CPU with 3.2Ghz FPU.
If you double pump the FP unit, you can do one 256-bit AVX vector math instruction per clock. This 128-bit FP and 256-bit AVX processing is as good as a Bulldozer, Piledriver, or Steamroller core in the Opteron server chips can do.
An 8 core AMD Jaguar @ 1.6 Ghz would have eight 3.2Ghz FPUs.
Weaker than Wii CPUSaltyMeatballs
AMD Jaguar is stronger than Wii's CPU e.g. AMD Jaguar has 128bit vector units while Wii's CPU has 64bit vector units.

Does Intel have an out-of-order X86-64 CPU with 3.1 mm^2 chip size?
Weaker than PC and PS4

On vector /SIMD math, AMD Jaguar Quad Core would be beat my laptop's Intel Core i7-740 Quad-Core i.e. AMD Jaguar's 128bit FPUs are double clocked/"double pumped".
AMD Jaguar @ 1.6 Ghz would have 3.2Ghz FPU and Intel Core i7-740 doesn't support 256bit AVX..
[QUOTE="Tessellation"][QUOTE="Jankarcop"]PS4 has the same CPU. Proof? SoC Based Devkit Available January 2013 CPU: 8-core Jaguar Orbis contains eight Jaguar cores at 1.6 Ghz, arranged as two clusters http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-orbis-unveiled/Weaker than PC and PS4
